Special Upgrade 4 Tech Tips   12/27/2016

Hi all! Now that Upgrade 4 is out and about in large quantities we have now discovered a few SNAFUs that happen out in the scary, real world that is home computing.  Fortunately the rate of problems is extremely small and so far most are easily worked around.  We've identified a few issues that have similar causes which we have clear instructions for work arounds here they are: 1.  CMRT Windows customers need to re-license their original key.  This is a result of improvements to the licensing system which CMBN, CMBS, and CMFB are already using.  To do this launch CMRT with the Upgrade and the first time enter your Engine 4 key.  Exit and then use the "Activate New Products" shortcut in your CMRT folder, then enter your Engine 3 license key.  That should do the trick. 2.  CMRT and CMBN MacOS customers have a similar situation as #2, however the "Activate New Products" is inside the Documents folder in their respective CM folders.  For CMBN you have to go through the process described above for each of your license keys.  There is no special order to follow. 3.  For CMBS and CMFB customers, you need to use the Activate New Products shortcut and enter your Upgrade 4 key.  If you launch the game and see a screen that says "LICENSE FAILURE: Base Game 4.0 is required." that is an indication you haven't yet gone through that procedure.  Provided you had a properly functioning copy before installing the Upgrade, that should be all you need to do.  If in the future you have to install from scratch on a new system you'll need to do the same procedure for both your original license key and your Upgrade 4.0 key. 4.  There's always a weird one and here it is.  A few Windows users are not getting "Activate New Products" shortcuts created during installation.  Apparently anti-virus software is preventing the installer from doing its job.  This might not be a problem right now, but it will prove to be an issue at some point in the future.  The solution is to create your own shortcut using the following steps: Disable your anti-virus software before you do anything. Go to your Desktop, right click on the Desktop itself, select NEW->SHORTCUT, use BROWSE to locate the CM EXE that you are trying to fix. The location is then written out. After it type in a single space and then paste this:

Click NEXT and give your new Shortcut a name (doesn't matter what). Confirm that and you're done. Double click on the new Shortcut and you should be prompted to license whatever it is you need to license. At this time we have not identified any issues that have not been worked around.  Let's hope it stays that way Steve

      Forum Reorganization   10/12/2017

We've reorganized our Combat Mission Forums to reflect the fact that most of you are now running Engine 4 and that means you're all using the same basic code.  Because of that, there's no good reason to have the discussion about Combat Mission spread out over 5 separate sets of Forums.  There is now one General Discussion area with Tech Support and Scenario/Mod Tips sub forums.  The Family specific Tech Support Forums have been moved to a new CM2 Archives area and frozen in place. You might also notice we dropped the "x" from distinguishing between the first generation of CM games and the second.  The "x" was reluctantly adopted back in 2005 or so because at the time we had the original three CM games on European store shelves entitled CM1, CM2, and CM3 (CMBO, CMBB, and CMAK).  We didn't want to cause confusion so we added the "x".  Time has moved on and we have to, so the "x" is now gone from our public vocabulary as it has been from our private vocabulary for quite a while already.  Side note, Charles *NEVER* used the "x" so now we're all speaking the same language as him.  Which is important since he is the one programming them

  1. If you open a ticket with the Help Desk I might be able to help you with some of your search. Let me know if I can help.
  2. I'm probably too late to help too but I'll put this in case anyone else reads it looking for the information..... If you purchased the 4.0 Big Bundle, to do full installations of each game you would download the Full Windows/Mac versions for each title. For instance the full game installer for a Windows computer for CMBN is called "CMBN 4.0 Full Windows". That will install everything through the 4.0 Upgrade. The base game and every module, patch, Upgrade and Pack. From there you will need to activate things. Here are the keys you'll need for each title....assuming that you own everything (some items may be part of a Bundle but I think you'll get the idea): CMBN: 4.0, 3.0, Market Garden, Commonwealth, Vehicle Pack, Battle Pack CMRT: original base game and 4.0 CMFI: base game, 4.0, 3.0 and Gustav Line CMBS: base game and 4.0 As mentioned above, CMBS also has the 2.01 patch that needs to be installed. The 2.01 patch and CMBS Battle Pack are the exact same download. The only difference is that when you purchase the Pack you get a key to "unlock" the content. I can dig how much of a pain it may be to dig through your account for all of the key. Whenever I get a new key for something I add it to a Word document that I keep so that I can get to them easily.
  3. Soft launch... CMBS Battle Pack 1

Yes. For CMBN the 3.11 and 3.12 patches are the identical downloads as the Pack downloads. The only difference is that when you purchase the pack you get a key to "unlock" the content. Other than that the download will be the exact same download as the patch.
  4. Actually, this is probably the best place to post this. :-) But I will do what I can to get some extra eyes on this. Fixing bugs is beyond the scope of the Help Desk. Forum posts are usually a better place to post possible bugs because the developers look at it frequently and they're the ones that can do something about it. Posting possible bugs on the forum also allows others who are seeing the same thing a chance to chime in. The Help Desk can help you get up and running if the game itself is running right or if there are licensing issues. That said, I will point HQ in this direction.
  5. Download problem

As a general rule, if your download is slow or causing problems, the solution that works the best is to use a different browser. That fixes 98% of download issues. Also, disabling your firewall and anti-virus software during the download can help. But, DO NOT use a download helper.
  6. Download problem

Oops....just noticed your comment about automated email. If you didn't get an automated reply then you did not successfully open a ticket. And that explains why you haven't received a reply. When you open a ticket you receive an auto response . Not only does that confirm to you that your ticket has been created but, far more importantly, it gives you your log in information for the ticket so that you can access it. I do respond on weekends (and holidays).
  7. Download problem

What is your Help Desk ticket number? The ticket number will be in the auto response email that you get when you open a ticket. The only unanswered tickets that I see are the 3 that came in while I was sleeping. Sure, there are times that I wish I could sleep for 4 days but I haven't been. *EDIT- for typo while typing my reply with my big dopey thumbs on my dead sexy phone*
  8. I was actually just coming to post this but you beat me to it. Yes, it has been a tough one. I got 4 tickets with this and tried all the usual things. After hearing back from 3 or the 4 people, 3 of the people use McAfee as their AV software. When I hear from the 4th, I'll be surprised if he doesn't have McAfee too. It sounds like they adjusted something that is giving the module a false positive. I'm not sure if you're the guy who totally removed McAfee or not. Removing it is probably not necessary. But using the AV software's user manual and giving both the game and the module an exception should be enough. Also, checking the AV's quarantine folder is a good idea.
  9. Do you have a desktop or laptop computer? If you have a laptop (in rare cases it can also appply to a desktop), make sure that the game is running on the NVidia card and not the Intel integrated card.
  10. Cool. Good, when you said that you were looking into several DL managers, I took that to mean that you had used one and/or were following the advise to use one. Hopefully, the link that I sent will be helpful.
  11. DO NOT use a download manager. If you are now, that might be part of the issue.! Para turning off his AV software is more likely to have helped. This link might be helpful: http://battlefront.mojohelpdesk.com/help/article/127844
  12. CMFB and CM Helper

You're correct. The older titles were grandfathered in. I had a couple of Help Desk tickets about it today. One even gave me a 1 star review out of 5 because I couldn't fix an issue with software that we didn't create....go figure. The bottom line for us is that we (BFC) aren't able to make PBEM Helper work for CMFB. We are going to work with GaJ and help him in any way that we can with a workaround.
  13. Recommended specs?

It appears to run with Vista as Lille Fiserby has said. So, Vista itself isn't a problem. That said, the BEST way to insure that it runs on your system is try the demo. If the demo runs, the full game will.
  14. I have had some people have success with these drivers: and Not everyone but enough that I kept track of them.
  15. Yes, trying a different browser helps. Some systems perform better if firewalls and anti-virus software is disabled. Or, drop us a note on the Help Desk.
