G B Scurlock
I am using a mortar in direct fire using the Target command. They can use up almost all their rounds over a one minute turn when they really get going. I only want to drop 4 or 5 rounds on this suspected enemy position. Hows is the best way to order a short salvo using direct fire?
MikeyD
I haven't done it for awhile (I mostly play realtime) but you might want to try a short movement command with a delay. Theoretically they'll fire on the target for 30 seconds* then pack up and shift position to the new waypoint.
YankeeDog
Issue a pause command to the mortar team, follow by a short move order. Once the pause is done, the mortar team will get up and move, which will stop the firing. You can tweak how many rounds they fire by the length of the pause. Not ideal, but better than nothing.
Rocky Balboa
use the pause command. Issue your direct fire command then give a 30 sec pause followed by a move order to the same action spot you currently occupy. Also make sure you re-deploy your mortar at the destination location. This will effectively have your mortars fire for 30 secs instead of the full minute ..
Blackcat
And remember to tell the mortars to face in the right direction and deploy once they have reached their new position (fallen foul of that more than once).
bbaker
You can also use the "target light" command to reduce the mortar's ROF, if I'm not mistaken.
finalcut
I normally try to fire mine toward the Enemy. The guys on my side get upset if I fire them the wrong way.
Michael Emrys
You can also use the "target light" command to reduce the mortar's ROF, if I'm not mistaken. I'm sceptical about that. Shouldn't using Target Light just make them use their personal weapons instead of the mortar? Michael
Paul
I tend to use target light in direct fire mode. In my experience, they fire only 3-4 rounds on area target per turn in WEGO. On a unit target, they seem to quit once they loose it. The only problem is, that the riflemen also fire, thus increasing the posibility of giving away your position. In this game, I'm now using direct fire more and more. With the strict time limits in some of these scenarios, waiting 5-6 min. is just too much time.

Michael No, target light will fire the mortar at reduced RoF.

Pak40
IMO, a mortar firing in direct mode should have the same options that in indirect mode. ie, area fire, line, point.... He should also have the option of duration and intensity that is normally presented to FO's

Broadsword56
correct ... if the manual is right, then they should only use light weapons and no mortars. If the mortar is deployed, then target light means they just fire the mortar at a low rate of fire. If the mortar is not deployed, they use personal weapons at a low rate of fire. At least that's what I've been seeing.
