*Yet another bump and vote for sticky*

And then I want to add:

"House to House" by SSG David Bellavia with John

Bruning

Modern urban warfare during the battle of Fallujah from the point of view of a Silver Star awarded squad leader . The firefights are narrated in engrossing detail and complemented with the author's intimate thoughts about fear, sense of duty and leadership. The brutality of urban warfare is exposed without compromise and the book provides an unsurpassed grunt's view on how tactical warfare is waged in cities. "House to House" transpires the real life tactical schemes of infantry units engaged in urban combat and I'm sure the CM fan reader will be making mental maps in his head to follow up the action. Last but not least, overcoming the enemy is just one of the challenges the men under SSG Bellavia's command face: prevailing over traffic jams, communication mishaps, a bog of household cables right in the middle of a kill zone, or a Bradley's main gun smashed and lost against an electric pole are just a few examples.

An excellent companion book for CMSF and surely will be a great inspiration source for future scenarios.

Sniper One: The Blistering True Story of a British Battle Group Under Siege

From the Back Cover

'Contact front! Contact front!' Immediately we were down on our

knees and aggressively returning fire. Then we slipped away into pairs.

While one bloke got up and sprinted 10 feet back up the alleyway, the other

emptied all the rounds he could in the direction of the gunmen. Then the

pair swapped roles. Fire and Manouevre, fire and manouevre.

It was like the bank robbery scene in 'Heat'. It's amazing how well you

remember it all when you need to. But still the RPK poured lead at us. A

whole burst went straight between Smudge's legs as he was stopping to turn

and cover me.

'Average?!' I said as we looked at each other in amazement. Then we

carried on ...

About the Author

Sgt Dan Mills, MiD, was decorated for his command of an

eighteen-man sniper platoon during the siege of Al Amarah. During a long

army career he has served in Bosnia, Kosovo, Northern Ireland and the

Falkland Islands.

Highly recommend this one - great book.

CMSF and recommended reading books:

In 2005, I read a post by MadMatt and a few others that recommended some books on Desert Storm, IF, Shield, Afgan, Iraq and basically the big "sandbox."

I bought the following books at the forum's recommendation:

Storm on the horizon - david J. Morris

Certain Victory - Robert H. Scales, Jr.

Death Ground - Daniel P. Bolger

Heavy Metal - Jason Conroy

On Point - Gregory Fontenot

No true glory - Bing West

Ambush Alley - Tim Pritchard

We were one = Patrick K. O'Donnell

Presidential Command - Peter W. Rodman

The last Stand of Fax Company (not really the Middle East but Marines in combat)

The Failure Factory - Bill Gertz

Thunder Run - David Zucchino

Not a good day to dir - Sean Naylor

My War - Colby Buzzell

Basrah, Bagdad and beyond - Nicholas E. Reynolds

Afghan Guerrilla Warfare - Ali Ahmad Jalali and Lester W. Grau

The sling and the stone - Thomas X. Hammes

The march up - Bing west

I am running out of room in the house for my history books. I would like to offer them to a Battlefield and CM gamer first since you guys recommended them to me . Not sure if I am breaking some rules here but the first $50 plus shipping can have them. Please email me at shulland@gmail.com

Steve

I am not sure if anyone has mentioned this book, it is the story of the 1st Battalion Royal Anglian Regiment's tour in Afghanistan in 2007 and is a superb description combat there as well as the British Army at ground level. It made me laugh in places, brought a tear to the eye in others and showed me that squaddies haven't changed not only since my day but also since Rifleman Harris shouldered his flintlock through the Peninsula.

Attack State Red

Colonel Richard Kemp & Chris Hughes

Published by Michale Joseph

ISBN: 978-0-718-15506-3

As a companion volume I would also recommend:

Apache Dawn

Damien Lewis

Published by Sphere

ISBN: 978-0-751-54191-5

This book is set in the same time as Attack State Red and contains descriptions of some of the same actions. It is interesting to compare the views of the ground troops with the chopper pilots of the same events.
