Saddam_#24
...Except I don't have permission. When do you reckon the next CM game should be set? I'd be interested to know. 1.WW1 2.More WW2 3.Korea/Vietnam 4.Falklands 5.Gulf War/Somalia 6.Fictional Modern day 7.Sci-Fi Rubbish 8.Other I vote Vietnam

HeadHunter
I'd like to see more WWII Western Front fighting - 1939-1944 hasn't been covered yet for the ETO. Aside from that, other preferences would be WWII Mediterranean/North Africa; or a fictional modern day Combat Mission game (Cold War would be a good period, with the addition of actual armed conflict between NATO and the Warsaw Pact). OwenGun
More WW2, set in the Mediterranean and North Africa. Something along the lines of DFDR - if you were to combine it with the CMBB engine, you'd already have some of the graphics and most of the ballistics figured out. Failing that, give me war in the pacific so I can get close enough to use my flamethrower...
Shades
I would like the Mediterranean and North Africa but would also like to play out the Polish, Norway, France Blitzkrieg actions. Especially mess around with the French armoured forces which were so disorganized in an effort to get some better results. Even some of the Japan/Chinese battles which had very high casualties but poor armor.

BloodyBucket
One thing you won't see is a Pacific version, and that breaks my Jarhead heart. The city fighting in Naha, the jungles of Guadalcanal, the flamethrowers vs. the caves and spider-holes on Iwo Jima, never to be done in CM splendor. Oh, the unfairness of it all! I used to live at the foot of Sugar Loaf Hill (well about 100 yards away) and would have loved to see my yard in a CM battle. Brodieman
I vote for a North Africa/Mediterranian (?sp) game, just for the mobile armoured warfare of Africa and the great scenarios you would get from the Mediterranian (ie Crete, Italy etc..). Of course a game of the Pacific would be great too! Lots of beach combat and close quarters battle without the support of much armour. Hmmm Flamethrowers..toasty.... Saddam_#24
The fictional modern one wouldn't work too well. It'd be great but then it'd get too comercial, and Microsoft would buy BattleFront or something nasty like that. You know... XBox only? Pacific theatre does sound nice, but come on... Hueys, Jungles, Napalm, The Doors, Apocalypse Now, and enough horrible attrocities to prevent any flag waving (We were soldiers managed anyway thanks to that Gibson b*st*rd). Lou2000
There have been a number of similar discussions in the CMBB forum ... I think what we are going to get is WW2 in Europe again ... and I have absolutly no problem with that ! I very much doubt that there will be any modern warfare game/scenario as not only the game engine but the 'game play' just wouldnt work for OTH/Standoff weapons, ECM, ESM, Airborne assets. Even the range of most modern MBT's would mean having huge maps ... and yeah i know there is an engine rewrite on the horizon ... but i still think these things are outside the scope of CM. I doubt there will be a whole game devoted to North Africa as the terrain would be just too limiting ... sand, dunes and rocks in varying quantities ! As for WW1 .... try using CMBB and set up a few trenches, fixed fortifications, MG's and lot of infantry - -initially enjoyable but ultimately limited. First time i've been in the CMBO forum for a while ... well since buying CMBB that is! ....think im gonna hang around a little more.... may even find a partner for some BO PBEM again. Saddam_#24
I think CM would be just right for any of these. The huge maps won't be a problem, with computing power like today's. The only real limitation is when there are too many units in a battle. Besides tanks may have an incredible range now, but they rarely need to shoot that far. Terrain usualy gets in the way. And they would miss at higher ranges. And CM gameplay is great fun in cities, open ground, dense forrests, in fact anywhere where a battle might be fought. Helicopters and the other stuff Lou2000 mentioned could be programmed in and would not affect the gameplay element. For a start choppers would either be like fighter bombers you controll or like a fast M3 Halftrack that can cross any terrain. I think it would be a shame to stick with WW2 Europe because it is the only realistic wargame in real time. And the way your plans go to ruin the whole time so you really have to think to win the battles is non existent anywhere else. I'd love to see it expanded over some different wars. EricM
If possible why not '39-43 Europe and Western Desert. You could have all those neat early tanks that just did not work out (Matilda 1 comes to mind). It probably would not be too hard to have both european terrain and desert terrain designed into the game. While Itally would be interesting there really wasn't very much armor battles (IMHO) to make it an interesting game. Eric

Great - big maps with few units ... that should be fun and VERY representative of modern warfare!!! ========================= posted by Saddam_#24 "the other stuff Lou2000 mentioned could be programmed in and would not affect the gameplay element. " ......OHT targetting ESM and ECM - - To say that these would not impact on gameplay is crazy ... on the modern digital battlefield these things are deciding factors and cannot be seperated from the troops on the ground with 'sensor to shooter' information systems becoming increasingly common place they cannot be easily left out of any game that hopes to do justice to modern warfare. BFC know all this and have represented is well in Tacops 4 ==================== posted by Saddam_#24 "For a start choppers would either be like fighter bombers you controll or like a fast M3 Halftrack that can cross any terrain." ....You make a statement like this and then talk about 'realism' in the next sentance ...amazing ! ======================= posted by EricM "If possible why not '39-43 Europe and Western Desert. I'd love to play CM in the desert. I just dont think North Africa alone presents much in the way of variable terain. ================== posted by Firefly "Perhaps they'll set it the real North Africa rather than the Hollywood version" .....Well last time i was on exercise in North Africa ( Ex Brightstar - Egypt) the terrain (coastal and inland) seemed to be fairly realistic ! and i seem to remember lots of rocks and sand ... dont recall any hollywood film crews in the area though Gentlement ... please dont take these responses as 'flames' they are not intended that way .... many of these topic have been discussed at length in other forums. And most if not all options have been raised by others with similar views Im still convinced we'll see CM3 remaining in WW2 time period ... an era the game was designed for and is best suited to. I believe there is more milage in discussing new features that we would like to see in the engine rewrite.... I stand firmly behind the whole ww2 game concept from the invasion of Poland ... (yes there were things prior to that but they were mainly political annexations) ...through to the fall of Berlin, Including the western desert, mediterranean europe & Islands, Balkans, amphibious warfare ( a special interest of mine!) and revist the E and W fronts. tailz
I am interested in why so many people want to replay the Blizkrieg/early years of the war? (Aside from the desire to kick Nazi butt in '40) Would it not be necessary to hobble allied forces in some way, to duplicate the German tactical advantages. Certainly the two sides were not evenly matched in this regard. One poster stated he wanted to try the early French armour that was so poorly handled. To maintain CM's realism, it would have to force some sort of historical constraint on the French player, severely limiting how many tanks he could purchase (as the French had their armour parcelled out along the length of the front, not concentrated) I'm not disagreeing with an early era CM... but I think most people are assuming they could 'correct' the tactical wrongs of the actual commanders, and for a period game, this shouldn't be possible. Outdated and imperfect doctrines would have to be placed on the Allied player to make it significantly more difficult for them to win. It would hardly be realistic to play perfectly balanced scenarios... it was a terribly unbalanced period of the war. Western Desert/Med... I think those are much more viable theatres for CM. Advantage seesawed back and forth with missed opportunities and squandered advantages for both sides, so I think a really good and well balanced game could come out of it. My .02 This forum may be a lot quieter now, but at least that Peng tripe moved out...

BloodyBucket
IIRC, there was a thread where the BFC boys stated that the Pacific was a no-go because they did not have any personal interest or knowledge of it, and since CM is a labor of love, and the Pacific is unloved by the aforementioned, that is that. Hard to argue with, really. If you don't like it, why do it?
