1. I've played with the demo... One thing I'm unclear on... where do you find opponents or arrange games? Is it simply a matter of connecting to the server and seeing who's around to play? I haven't seen any forum posts about setting up matches or arranging games... Thx in advance, Clint
 2. I am interested in why so many people want to replay the Blizkrieg/early years of the war? (Aside from the desire to kick Nazi butt in '40) Would it not be necessary to hobble allied forces in some way, to duplicate the German tactical advantages. Certainly the two sides were not evenly matched in this regard. One poster stated he wanted to try the early French armour that was so poorly handled. To maintain CM's realism, it would have to force some sort of historical constraint on the French player, severely limiting how many tanks he could purchase (as the French had their armour parcelled out along the length of the front, not concentrated) I'm not disagreeing with an early era CM... but I think most people are assuming they could 'correct' the tactical wrongs of the actual commanders, and for a period game, this shouldn't be possible. Outdated and imperfect doctrines would have to be placed on the Allied player to make it significantly more difficult for them to win. It would hardly be realistic to play perfectly balanced scenarios... it was a terribly unbalanced period of the war. Western Desert/Med... I think those are much more viable theatres for CM. Advantage seesawed back and forth with missed opportunities and squandered advantages for both sides, so I think a really good and well balanced game could come out of it. My .02 This forum may be a lot quieter now, but at least that Peng tripe moved out...
 3. Zero interest in the Eastern Front. (How can you tell the good guys from the bad guys??) CMBO... Canadians vs the 12SS all the way!! [ December 06, 2002, 06:22 AM: Message edited by: tailz ]
 4. I'm with you ColonelD. It may be on the long range radar for purchasing, but I'm a west front afficianado (sp?) tailz
 5. Anyone remember how long it took for them to sell out of CMBO the first time? Hmm... didn't CMBO sell out twice?
 6. ... still active... but CM can't compare to motorcycling in this weather....
 7. Maple Leaf Forever is comes most readily to mind... if you need it, I have an excellent version from the 48th Highland Pipe & Drum....
 8. Spot on X !! Historical results/debriefs would be a welcome addition.
 9. ...and why are your tanks fighting in cities?
 10. Would one of the members of the pro-horse camp explain exactly why they want horses on the battlefield? (not to be insulting, I'd just like to know why and what they would do with them... bearing in mind, I don't play battles with trucks, or drag artillery around the battlefield either.) tailz
 11.
quote:
Originally posted by Rupert_2: Looks like I have too, I didn't think I would go like that until I saw your post Lord General MB and notice all the symptoms.. Hopefully CMBB will be the cure !!!

Great... a thread for lurkers... I've actually found you don't even need to show up daily anymore... just cruise the mod sites and keep playing.
 12. I like the idea. It would be a neat option for the editor. Would set some interesting limits on a German defend situation.
 13. I play the Canadians almost to the exclusion of all other nationalities. (which works out well, because most of my opponents have preferred being the Germans.) I will confess that I enjoy beating up on the SS most of all. While I'm in the thread... anyone point the direction to some good Falaise Gap scenarios?
 14. I was under the impression 'fuzzy logic' was when your wife comes home with a new white blouse (frighteningly similar to the three she has in the closet already), and when you point out that she already has THREE, she says... "It was on sale, you wouldn't believe what a great deal it was!! I couldn't afford NOT to buy it!" Tailz from the Darkside...
 15.
quote:
Originally posted by Berlichtingen: As to comparing them... you can't. THey are both very fulfilling. Now, as far as I'm concerned, CM is a strange bird... other than it, computer wargames are not worth the disks they are burned on. CM is the only computer wargame I have seen that brings the depth of miniature wargaming to the computer.

Cut my gaming teeth on Squad Leader back in 19%$. You're right Berli, most PC wargames aren't worth the disks they're burned on... CMBO leaves me wishing my old gaming group was together. (CM is excellent, but IMHO, I'd drop it like a hot potato to get a good carboard game going again.) PBEM/TCP-IP/chat windows... just aren't the same as head to head over the cardboard and dice (the closes I got to miniatures was AH's Bismark... and my old knees just aren't up to spending that much time maneuvering squadrons on the floor!!). I would agree that you can't compare CM vs tabletop... Apples and Oranges I think.

The convicts, having been bored of watching Sopranos and pubmping up their biceps to the size of canned Hams, want alternative entertainment. There's big Bubba already opening his zipper, in case you choose the later.

It's easy to see the writing on the wall... ... now where's Bruno, trying to pawn off his lawnmower?? Hi Mom.
 17.
quote:
Originally posted by Bog: Has anyone ever actually seen an 88mm FlaK fire at a Jabo? I don't really see what the advantages are to buying them instead of 88mm PaK guns.

I had the understanding that the 88mm AA was actually for use against medium and high altitude targets, and it's use as an AT piece was an almost accidental discovery during the invasion of the Low Countries. Given that, I would assume they are of no advantage to purchase... Surely someone knows better than me...
 18. The Commonwealth 25lber is a superb choice... lots of rounds and a solid punch for the buck. Don't leave Blighty without'em!!
 19.
quote:
Originally posted by Michael Dorosh: Canada had several defining moments - with regards to land forces, I would have to say Ortona, and the Moro River campaign, showed that Canada could fight well on a divisional level (though Vokes' handling of teh campaign has been criticized heavily, the courage of the troops was exemplary).

I think Montgomery can take more than a little of the responsibility for the Ortona casualties. He was incessantly pushing for the attack to hurry up. Monty was the bottom of the 'general barrel' IMHO.
 20.
quote:
Originally posted by Tank Man: [QB]I recently played a hotseat QB and I was wondering how many other people play hotseat games and how long does it take at various point values. QB]

Hmmm... I've only done hotseat a couple of times (to demo the game to a friend, who subsequently got his own copy... now it's PBEM only.) I think Sunken Lane took us a couple of hours (rainy afternoon ironically enough), but my friend is a bit of a micro manager with his troops... I'm more of a point and click commando who let's the tacAI do as much of the work as possible.
 21.
quote:
Originally posted by Tank Man: And here come the Fionn Zombies... Hey Bruno, post something meaningful to Combat Misson in the Combat Mission General Forum or please don't post at all. Same goes for you tailz.

something meaningful... heck, I was just following the OT you started! Anyhoo... it is bad form to slash in a forum where your target can't respond. (And I don't even know this Fionn guy... you're just being a poor sport!) Where's the padlock?? Shoulda clicked by now... Matt must be getting a haircut...
 22.
quote:
Originally posted by Bruno Weiss: Lawn mower for sale. Newly sharpened blades, all original parts. If interested call.

Interested. Side or rear bag?
 23. Has anyone made (or know of) any operations around the Commonwealth drive to Caen, OR the push to close the Falaise Gap? (I thought I'd seen mention of it in the general forum some time ago, but damned if I can track anything down.) Any information is appreciated. Tailz
