  1. I disabled my firewall and I can get the campaign to work. Any suggestions to allow the two computers to "talk" back and forth without disabling the firewall completely? [ August 19, 2005, 09:13 PM: Message edited by: Shades ]
  2. I still get the same error when trying to play a campaign game but not local.
  3. It sounds like you freeze up in the same place as me, the blue screen but I get the error detail report. I also get logged off. I'm not sure if my firewall is the problem but I'll try a few things.
  4. I get this message whenever I try to play a campaign game not local games. I did get to play one turn but at the end of the turn, the directplay error message appeared and now it keeps appearing even after reboot. I get to the blue screen before the planes appear then the message. Any ideas to get this to work? I'm using Windows 98 but have directx 9c.
  5. Looks good except maybe for the swimming pool by the flag. How about some Japanese tanks?
  6. Concerning the borg spotting, how about some type of varying sight delay for tanks that are not directly facing a spotted unit. Nothing worse when a you send your tank out to attack another and every gun that has LOS instantly sees that unit and fires away.
  7. I also liked Swordpoint but I was the Germans so I'm not sure how the Allied side felt. Getting across the bridge did my opponent in. So am I co-champion since we didn't get a final round? I'm not afraid to admit though I barely won a couple battles which I felt heavily favored my side.
  8. Mortar units won't automatically fire on units spotted by the HQ. You have to give the mortar unit an area target order first and they will continue to fire on the location for the full turn and then you have to cancel the order the following turn unless you want them to continue firing at the spot. They will usually stop firing when they get down to one last round. Mortar units positioned at the edge of a tree line and not in hiding, will automatically fire on units spotted but run the risk of being spotted themselves. Usually though, I need their fire in a location where it is too dangerous to move them possibly into view but they can still contribute by lobbing some shells over a ridge and out of harms way.
  9. When I first started playing, mortars were a unit that I often lost before I had even used any of their shells and never used them to their ability. Now, most of mine usually survive my battles hiding out after using all their shells(Unless there victims of a well placed artillery barrage). Once you get the HQ spotting down, they can greatly assist your infantry squads trying to gain some tough ground on well defended areas. Your enemy may be too close to your squads for an artillery strike to come in and possibly take out some friendlies. You have so much more control on where you want the on-board mortar shells to land and can make those tough MG units break and run(well, walk)after a few direct hits. As a receiver, I can often ride out a 81mm barrage pretty well on a whole, but that pesky mortar unit pinpointing on one of my units can drive me nuts especially if I can't tell where shells are coming from.
  10. I think Munter and I are the only ones left who played OLP and Wiltz. As the Allies, I beat Munter "only" 71-29 compared to your final score. That one was heavily slanted toward the Allies. Due to the night conditions and map makeup, I could keep my armor out of his guns sights and let my infantry and halftracks flesh them out or pummel what little areas he had to hide them with my artillery. Each flag was isolated in a wooded area and easily swarmed one at a time then I let the small town have it at the end. I am curious to see your final score with Wiltz which was quite a blood affair for us. [ November 15, 2003, 09:40 PM: Message edited by: Shades ]
  11. I'm currently playing Rune's version of this battle in a PBEM. I'm the Axis and we're pretty far into it and I'm trying to finish off his Cromwells with my newly arrived Panthers. I still have a couple Tigers, one a King! I was cursing early on when my 88's couldn't pick off his Stuarts coming behind a low ridge and they breached my lines moving fast causing real havoc on my gun crews. Luckily my panzershrecks and panzerfauts held them off till some armor arrived. I'll let you know how this one ends up. Not sure the AI could handle this one real well from either side and is more geared for PBEM. My opponent had some problems though keeping his armor targeting my armor without the benifit of cover arcs as in CMBB.
  12. Oh brother, the 91 Fwy! How I've daydreamed myself sitting in a Tiger tank plowing my way to my destination. I'd probably still make better time than that usual stop and go. Tiger or not, I'd still like to check it out!
  13. I had Wiltz as 71-29 and OLP 49-35 in my favor. Wiltz sure didn't feel like I won by that many points though with what little we had left.
  14. I never had any reply after I sent the results of my last battles with Munter. I figured Cpt Carrot didn't get the results of the other players and gave up. [ October 01, 2003, 12:17 AM: Message edited by: Shades ]
  15. Have you played anybody else by PBEM with any problems? If you can play vs. the computer without any problems it shouldn't be a video problem. If your definately playing with the same version of CMBO, I still believe it is hotmail unless anyone else has had similar problems and a fix.
  16. Not sure if hotmail is the problem here but it has caused problems when I've sent to or received files from others using hotmail. Are your files getting to your opponent ok or just when you've receiving them? Has your opponent sent the files to you in a zipped format to cut down the size which has helped others? Are you only having problems with this particular player?
  17. We're(Lurker and I) still slowly finishing up our last battle but there has been many delays with the usual outside stuff. I'm not sure how the other two are doing, if they've finished or disappeared.
  18. The Hetzer can be alot of fun under the right circumstances. Pesky buggers. Whenever I get a Tiger though with my attack mission, you know when the other side sees that vehicle crest a hill or come around some bend its going to send some shivers. Such a unique shape and movement style. Can't wait to try the M3 Grant in CMAK. Caused quite a stir with the Germans when suddenly the allies had something that could answer back to their Pazer IV's.
  19. The instant action report could at least give you a quick rundown of your own force losses per platoon, morale level, ammo levels, known kills etc. As a matter of fact, I would like a more detailed AAR report showing this information rather than going into each unit indivually after the battle. The more information to browse over after a battle the better!
  20. "Honey, I'm going to check my emails, I'll be right back". "Boy, he's been gone a long time!" "Ah, Ha! Email my A**!" Moderation is the key. I've been married 10 years and learned to compromise and be flexible. Luckily she's an early to bed type and I'm a night owl so I can get my fix each night. Got to give that quality time to her and the kids though as CM will always be there and the family won't if you abuse it. After that amount of time together, we know you have to let each other have some space for hobbies and such. New relationships and marriages are a lot of work during those earlylearning experiences and spending more time on anything(this game, drinking, partying, sports) is going to strain the relationship. Its just the nature of the beast, this thing between men and women. My wife will probably kill me once my son is old enough to play.
  21. As JasonC stated, the on board mortar or off board artillery seem to shake them up within one or two turns depending on the size of artillery. The mortar can be one of the most pesky units in the game once you learn to use a HQ unit to spot for it. My current battle I've been using an HQ hiding in some light trees with the 60mm mortar on the other side of bocage just plugging away at some well emplaced gun positions. My opponent seemed to have spotted by HQ as he tried to get him with some area fire but I got him first. If there is a gun in a wooded area, the mortars really can wreak havoc with some torrid tree bursts.
  22. I guess I'm the name escapes me player:) Munter and I are about finished. We are on turn 25 in both battles which means OLP is done after this turn and Wiltz should be in about another week. Wiltz has left us both bloodied and battered. Down to last man standing.
  23. I usually lose my Tigers in CMBO due to the turret side shots when the turret is turning around to get some far off infantry/crews. Ambush orders can help some but not when your on the move and of course in CMBB you can have fire arcs which helps rectify this. **Spoiler for those who somehow haven't played the The Village-Bocage-Tiger scenario*** It shows the turning turret weakness with all that infantry running around which often leaves its weaker sides exposed. The Tiger does bounce most shells in frontal shots except the Firefly of course.
  24. I'm not sure how quickly my opponent moved his axis infantry to the woods but I ran mine right away based on the fact this was a meeting engagement and I didn't want to get caught only in the small town. I was able to position my infantry to cover approaches to the main flag and waited for him to walk into me which he did. He then had to pull back with a lot of losses. If he got better position in the woods first maybe it would have been different. It would appear the axis side would have to have a lot of things go right with both infantry and armor to win this one. I'm curious what the intial forces the axis had as the Americans got two additional platoons(or was it three?) as reinforcements which really turned the infantry battle.
  25. I'm not sure what the actual point totals were for each side. Allied side did have about 200 more men but only a 2 to 1 in armor. I was allies and actually only got a draw with a two point advantage to my opponent, Lurker. I wiped out most of his infantry and had most of mine but he took out every tank of mine with his Panther and Tiger and I actually only got his Stug and three halftracks(two with artillery). He had good hull down positions and I kept bouncing my shots and his gunners made me pay. Losing my armor balanced out the points. I should have flanked him more with my tank destoyers and my zooks could never get close enough as he kept them pretty clear of the woods. I was able to take the woods first and set up firing lines which he walked into and wiped out their effectivness pretty quick. A couple shots my way with my tanks(and better tank tactics) and the points could have shifted my way. Lurker and I actually had draws with both our battles.
