CMBO Vet, just got CMAK and CMBB

Recommended Posts

Your infantry will get slaughtered.

Until you get used to having them behave more like real infantry. You will also need to master some new movement commands, and worry about armor morale and leadership.

Generally you should expect everything to take more time. A good rule of thumb is to add at least 10 minutes to what you like for game times for any quick battles you generate.

Kitty's lying, it's completely different.

She just wants to shoot you.

Rush out in the open against MGs - dead

Run your boys too long - exhausted, then dead

And if you always used artillery to clobber your opponents to death, try something else.

In CMAK, hiding in rough ground makes you almost impervious to artillery

And artillery now falls in clusters, many seconds apart. You get volleys of artillery, then nothing for a while, then another volley (more like how it happened). IT's not as effective as it used to be.

The tiring troops on the run/move is a huge issue. You'd better get into leap-frogging boys supported by covering fire.

And watch out, if you believe anything Kitty tells you, it's just because she wants to kill you, then cook you... tongue.gif

Your Infantry will suddenly become keen Horticultralists, Geologists and Metalurgists, learning to appreciate the difference between;

Penatrations, partial penatrations, flaking, rough, rocks, soft ground, Tall Pines, woods, open ground and learn to eat dust...suitable attired by the the leading fashion house of AndrewF

oh yes...love is a .50cal/Vickers/Mg42/ 81mm/3" mortar :D

REVS comment about arty is very true and apart from the frail infantry the biggest difference.

If you depended on arty in CMBO, you'll have to think of a new plan for CM:BB/AK. Arty takes a lot longer to arrive, and might not even be on target if LOS is in doubt for even a second during that delay. This means that sooner or later you WILL get hit by your own arty! And when it does arrive it won't rough you up quite as bad as before, especially if you try and target armoured vehicles.

And direct fire arty/mortar now needs better planning. If a shell lands short in CMAK the resulting dust column (conditions for dust permitting) breaks LOS and the gunners start looking for other stuff to shoot unless you area fire. If you do use area fire the gunners just wait till the dust clears before firing again. That's the main reason I think dust/smoke was better out then in.

Buildings will slowly catch fire, then burn more and more fiercely unti your units are force out.

And firing your 88 anti-tank gun in desert conditions will block your LOS due to the dust cloud raised, and immediately give your location away.

And running over an anti-tank mine will now produce a dust cloud (new in the v1.01 patch).

And your infantry will be almost totally defenseless against tanks (CMBB Germans pre-Panzershrek/Russians ALL years/CMAK British pre-Piat).

Did anyone mention your infantry will die?

And LOTs of cool new mods to download! :D

Not entirelly true :

I had green engineers blast 3 PzIV in a QB. But apart from Engineers and (sometimes) flamethrowers, infantry is dead without AT support, even in fairly wooded country.

Also :

- infantry hide a lot better, expect to loose up to a company in one or two minutes to ambushes if you are not carefull.

- !!! cover arcs !!! critical to armor / AT guns (allows armor to move in a direction while covering another).

- sometimes, depending on the month / year, your opponent armor will be unkillable.

Did someone mention that you will loose a lot of infantry to MG / HMG ?

You can definitely kill tanks with demo charges, grenade bundles, or rifle grenades if you get close enough (within 30 meters). So lurking infantry can be dangerous to the health of tanks.

I do find zooks to be a lot less effective than in CMBO.

At first it will seem impossible to advance with infantry against MGs, but once you learn how to use suppressive fire from a firebase of MGs, mortars and tanks and acquire the art of leapfrogging from cover to cover with your advancing units, you'll recover the art of attack. CMBB and AK are much more fun and realisitic once you acquire the needed skills.
