Go Army!

I for one am happy to have Mr. Sean and his rather intellectual style outside of the pool. Here we had a rather silly attempt to portray a public institution as more of a bunch of pillocks that they really are, and Sean rode to their defense weilding a flaming sword of truth.

Besides, he does not have a Peng tattoo that makes it imporrible for him to enter polite places.

One of my favorites:

Once at a social gathering, Gladstone said to Disraeli, "I predict, Sir, that you will die either by hanging or of some vile disease".

Disraeli replied, "That all depends, sir, upon whether I embrace your principles or your mistress."

Winnie came by it naturally I suppose. Apparently (I've no source for this beyond a rather poor movie on his life) his father (Randolph?) was hosting a gathering. One of his friends walked up and said something like "Ah Churchill, I see you haven't invited any of your Jewish friends today." To which Churchill Sr. responded "No, I didn't think it fair ... you know how easily bored they are." ... or words to that effect.

LOL! Well, I hope I get this submitted before the padlock!

OK, S, you see the difference between the two types of humour that was displayed by the soldier in the story and yourself, was that you launched insults at me personally, even if they were ment in jest, while the soldier did not.

Allow me to explain the difference. Personal insults are aimied at making people get emotional about certain deficiansies that you think they have. Because often people are unsecure about themselves, personal insults often work. If I was unsecure and talking to you person to person, I would give you a hard right and you would fall down with a broken nose. Now then, the humour we see in the story is not personal insult. Its a simple play on words and the thoughts on certain issues this lady talk show host possesses as opposed to the thoughts of the soldier.

Now, let's practice. As a side note, S, I know your boots could have never been covered in Russian blood, because behind the "tough and witty forum oldtimer" appearance you so desperatly try to keep up, you are nothing but a balding, pudgy man of middle age. If you've ever even picked up a gun, I would be quite surprised. If you ever intentionally harmed someone, I would be amazed.

Now, what was that? Come on, now...yes, personal insult is right! Keep practicing, you'll get it someday.

I...have...seen...the...errors...of...my...ways...thanks...to...the...forces...of...truth...and...light...

SLAP!

Huh? What the...? Jeez, I nearly succumbed. Sheez, that was close. Good thing I'm not too suggestible, or the hypnosis might have worked.

Frankly, I find some of the holier-than-thou responses to my post amusing. Nothing seems to bring them out quite like posts that appear to cast a bad light on or lampoon a treasured liberal institution like NPR. Some folks just take themselves too seriously.

You don't like my sense of humor, that's fine. But when someone accuses me of "misrepresentation" and then heaves up some quasi-Freudian claptrap that purports to explain the motivation for my behavior, sure, that elicits a sneer. At least I have the professional training and expertise to make an informed guess at someone's motives...but I know better than to do so on the basis of a web forum post.

Fact is, I enjoy NPR, even thought I think they take themselves too seriously at times. And I take even more joy in lampooning conservative institutions. Heard any good Rush Limbaugh jokes lately? Justing listening to him is enough to make me laugh...and sicken my stomach at times. And anyone with the least insight or judgment would realize that the story told in my first post, true or not (and frankly, I don't care either way), says as much about the military's perspective on women as it does about women from NPR.

So, I say lighten up. If you don't find it funny, no problem. But spare me the lay analysis. It says far more about your personality than mine.

since everyone is smacking the pc liberal crowd around i'll toss in this quote tongue.gif

Phil: [as Mr. Chuckles] So God was creating man. And his little assistant came up to him and he said: "Hey, we've got all these bodies left, but we're right out of brains, we're right out of hearts and we're right out of vocal chords." And God said: "F--k it! Sew 'em up anyway. Smack smiles on the faces and make them talk out of their arses." And lo, God created the [conservatives].

Doubtless you meant "I see you're with the PENG people" rather than 'your'.

Doubtless the fact that your message was edited was to avoid being laughed at for your usual failure to use language properly while mocking another for making a point of it. Of course, you screwed that up.

And those of the Peng Challenge Thread taking everything seriously?! You inane f'ing pillock.

You've neither the talent, nor the background, nor the raw ability to be other than a little dribble of piss.

Socialist? You couldn't define the term with a Dictionary in one hand, and a Political Science text in the other.

Real life? Define yours. Explain to those of us here, unenlightened, the glory of your 'Real Life'. Ha ha. Mesmerize us with your tales of how you've defined the Universe by your existence. I'll get a mop and you can use it to paint your life story.

Well bugger!!! Good show ol' sport, once again the good o' PENG people see another typo (not being sarcastic) You should be a proofreader and language analyst for congress resolutions, also for extra cash you can fill and re-fill Ted Kennedy's flask... :D

I'm IN the military, and I resent that remark - would you care to explain what you mean? Women are capable of serving in any trade up here in Canada; perhaps the US Army is more backwards than that, I really don't know - but I think any professional soldier - regular or reserve - would take exception to the suggestion that they view women only as prostitutes.

Good point, Sergei.

In the US, the governmental policies governing the Armed Forces have at times institutionalized what some regard as sexist attitudes. Some (but certainly not all) of the soldiers who make up the Armed Forces have embodied those attitudes, including some higher-ups.

But by no means do I beliefve that every military person thinks of women as prostitutes, which was an extremely concrete interpretation of my comment in the earlier post.
