  1. Hi there Winecape, I don't know if you recall me, but I took part in (and finished second) in one of the first RoW tourneys (at least I think it was a RoW...I know it was a CM tourney that was set up on the Forum--just looked back at the archives, it was a Rugged Defense tourney...ah well, so much for my memory), and wound up doing two-player testing for Wild Bill Wilder for one of the subsequent tourneys. I dropped off the scene because CM no longer was available on the Mac (well, that and I got a divorce! <grin>), but I was really excited to see CM:BN was coming out on for the Mac. If possible, I'd sure like to get in on any future tourney. Buckeye
  2. Well, I'm one of the old timers as well...and back because CM:BN will work on the Mac! Great news. And now I hear there may be a new Rumblings of War tourney to boot...I remember one of those fondly.
  3. John: Just to answer your question: Yes, you can change the resolution on the 17" iMac, but like any flat panel, there's a native resolution for the screen, and things look better at that resolution than at any other. For the 17" iMac, the native resolution is 1440 X 900. Any other resolution looks a bit washed out. I don't think reducing the resolution will help CMBB much. Jarmo: You may be right that the nVidia drivers are not optimal for Rave. But I've also heard complaints of various sorts about ATI cards, so I'm afraid there's no perfect solution. Moral to the story: C'mon, BFC, get that Open GL version done! Buckeye
  4. John: The downsampling problem on Macs has been discussed elsewhere on the Forum. Yes, 32 megs of video RAM should in theory be sufficient to run CMBB. But it doesn't appear to be a matter of video RAM. It's also not related to resolution (I run at 1440 X 900, for what it's worth). Interestingly, some folks say that low-res mods actually look better on Macs than high-res. I don't think it's a driver either. In fact, I haven't seen anyone come up with a solution to the problem. Just as I haven't seen anyone solve the problem of blurry skies (that's the only other display issue I know of with the nVidia cards). Unfortunately, the downsampling of armor and blurry skies is sufficiently annoying that I don't enjoy CMBB from an 'eye candy' perspective as much as I did CMBO. I suspect I won't really be happy again until the Open GL version of CM arrives. Keith
  5. John: I have a late 2002 17" iMac. CMBB plays pretty well on it, although the graphics are a little disappointing because of the downsampling that occurs. This is most noticeable for certain AFVs. Not really seen on infantry. Speed is okay, although large scenarios do slow things down a tad. Keith
  6. Do the new drivers have any other benefits? Do they help skies look better? Do they stop the psychedelic graphics that happen when you load several game files in a row without quitting out of the program? Inquiring minds want to know.
  7. I've had exactly the same thing happen on my iMac. I suspect it has to do with the drivers and memory usage, but can' t prove that. I've just gotten in the habit of closing and re-opening the game between each file. I'd love to know if the new drivers eliminate the problem. I'd also love to know if anyone has figured out how to make the skies look right. I tried reducing their resolution, and it made the skies clearer in one quadrant, but not all around.
  8. One other idea: Have you definitely placed the scenario in the Scenario folder? Another stupid idea, but I had to ask anyhow.
  9. Hey Lad, I'm in the tourney, and didn't have any problems starting up the scenario. Have you upgraded to CMBB version 1.01 (yes, I know, a stupid question, but I had to ask)? If you have installed then patch, then perhaps your copy of the scenario was corrupted somehow. Just to be safe, you might want to shoot an e-mail to Cyberfox and ask him to send you another copy.
  10. I'd just like to publicly recognize Scott and all the other members of the B&T team for the incredible work they put into this scenario pack. I wasn't able to contribute much at all because of other demands on my time, so I'm really in awe of the time and energy devoted by the rest of the team to this effort. Well done, guys!
  11. Looks like the previous posters nick is entirely apropos.
  12. Hey, Voxman...I guess I don't get the point of your post. Those Mods were posted by B&T, but were made by KwazyDog, who's done a ton of great work for CMBO and CMBB (in fact, he did many of the skins for both games). So, I'm with Parabellum on this one. Offer some constructive criticism...or don't bother cluttering up the airwaves.
  13. Are you running OS 10.2 (i.e., Jaguar)? If so, then you don't need to make a separate partition to have CMBB run properly. Just restart the computer in OS 9, and it will run fine. CMBB will not run in Classic under OSX under any conditions.
  14. I don't see how the demo could interfere one way or another. Are you sure you have the extensions that are required by CMBB, in addition to those required by the nVidia card? It still sounds like an extension problem. I can't think of anything else that would stop it from running.
  15. I have a new 17 inch flat screen iMac, and I haven't had CMBB freeze yet. I had intermittent freezes on my old iMac. I'd wonder about some sort of extension conflict. Try running CMBB with just the base set of extensions. What system are you using? How much memory do you have? Are you running any other software other than CMBB when it freezes?
  16. "Headlines, headlines, read all about it!" This Newsletter is really great, despite CDIC's best efforts! Way to go, fluffer!
  17. With the release of Jaguar, you don't need to worry about either the Classic Rave extension or having a partition. Just re-boot into OS 9 whenever you want to play CM, and then re-boot into OS X if that's where you want to be. The Classic Rave extension no longer interferes with CM when you're in OS 9. You can't run CM under OS X, except in software emulation, and even then it's dicey. Unless you have a compellling reason to need a separate partition, there's really no reason I know of to bother. I run my OS 9 apps either in OS 9 or under Classic in OS 10, and both seem to work fine. You'll find the only problem with CMBB in OS 9 on the new iMac is that the skies are blurry. It helps a bit to reduce the size of the graphic, but it doesn't solve the problem entirely. Must be a problem in the way the nVidia card renders Rave. Not much to be done about it, because nVidia isn't likely to release drivers to deal with the problem.
  18. Well, I definitely like my new iMac, but the skies on CMBB remain blurry, even when I reduce them to the stock CMBO size. Other than the skies, though, everything else looks very nice. Probably would be better with a Radeon, but that wasn't an option.
  19. Leland, I had the same problem on my old iMac, running 9.1. Could go weeks without any lockups, and then get several in a row. I found that if I saved the files regularly, while inputting orders, it occurred less often. Makes me think it has something to with memory use, but I can't prove it. I haven't had it happen at all on my new iMac, running 9.2.1...at least not yet.
  20. Leland, I've found I have to quit out of CMBB and restart it each time I view a file, or else the game graphics degrade considerably. They're fine otherwise, aside from the blurry skies, which I'm going to try to deal with by reducing the graphics' dimensions once I have the time. Did you try quitting and restarting? Might be worth a try.
  21. Hey, Daman, what's the easiest way to resize the grahics? Can I use graphics converter to do that? Sounds like it'd help...thanks for the suggestion.
  22. Bump! Other fellow Mac users must have some ideas about this problem!
  23. IIRC, blurry skies/horizons are a known problem with the nVidia cards in Macs. But I was wondering if anyone had figured out a way around the problem? Would it help to reduce the resolution (and hence, the size) of the graphic? I seem to remember some discussion about the large size of the sky graphics being part of the problem, but I'm not sure if I'm right. Any Mac users out there figure a work around on this issue? I'd love to see the skies clearly.
  24. The standard resolution on the 17 incher is 1440 x 900. I've been playing with terrrain features at full and trees at extreme, and don't notice any dithering (unless it's perhaps the roadwheels, but I suspect not). Even when I go to extreme terrain, I get a nice clear picture, although panning over terrain at level 1 is a little slower. Is the iMac better than the iBook, or vice versa? I assume the iMac would be better because of the stronger graphics card.
