Ivanov
Looks more like SOF.

Kinophile
That systems op position is very interesting. Im curious, is that the first time such a specialty has been specifically and deliberately integrated into a platoon, from the ground up? Is anyone else (eg CAN/BRITarmies) doing this to a similar formal degree? I'm assuming PLA/RUS only have it in SOF units, if at all.
FoxZz
I'm not convinced by the 300% increase in firepower. An IAR is just an HK 416 rifle with a bipod, an acog and a 16" barrel, so basically, a better M16A2. I hardly see how it replaces a M249 and its much bigger supressive fire abilities. Artkin
Holy crap we're giving marines... optics?!?
DMS
Is 5,56 ballistics good enough at >500 metres? Does longer barrel really help? In Russia RPK-74 is considered useless by many...
The_MonkeyKing
The old SAWs will still be around, but just at the platoon level. The aim is to keep squads as more of a mobile element.
FoxZz
Not the good way to do it imho. At platoon level it should be a M240B not a M249. I think it would have been better to look for a lighter saw, something like that for example: https://www.knightarmco.com/12627/shop/military/lamg
akd
Not as a platoon support element with dedicated crew, but kept in reserve for reissue to squads. M249 and M27 can be swapped out without need for additional personnel or logistics burden.

Lee Vincent
The guy's logic for a 300% increase firepower is that now everyone can fire full auto, pretty silly statement.
