Well put, Vanir Ausf B !

TBH, the OP's picture does look like CM, except for the trees .. .and that house on the right looks a bit like a 2D picture. ... Edit: aaaaand he's changed the pic ;)

Between the efforts of BFC and the fantastic modders in the community, it looks pretty awesome.

It's possible WoT has some stuff CM doesn't have - Hit decals perhaps ? I don't know, never played it, but the pictures he's posting aren't showing anything "better than" CM.

Oh yeah, and the maps in WoT are individually crafted by the developer. You can't just go and make your own like you can in CM. When we all have pro-standard 3D design tools on our desktops that can interface with CM, then the really pretty microdetail can get put in. Of course we'll all have to have seriously hefty machines to host such maps. And they're still not that much better than CM terrains. The water's nicer, but the rest? Barely noticeably better, and that's with them picking out their favourite bits.

Colonel_Deadmarsh, the terrain in the video you posted looks gamey IMO, the bit with the deep shadow was good, but nothing in it blew me away like ARMA2, which IMO has the most photo realistic look of any game on the market.

If you want to see a dedicated WW2 module for the ARMA2 engine, search for Iron Front Liberation 44 on YouTube, then you will realise that you should be lobbying WoT to use the ARMA2 terrain engine.

p.s.

The picture you posted at the start of your thread, the one with all the different tanks, looks like the sort of paintings you see on the boxes of model kits.

I marvel every day at the CM graphics and how good they are. The detail of the infantry battle harness with all the various equipment and weapons hanging from a plethora of camoflauged troops. Various helmets with different camo, webbing etc. Different variations in the same squad. The recoil of the big 88's from either the Tiger or Flak guns. The actual combat actions of the figures themselves and how good they look in the throes of organized mayhem.

You can't tell me this doesn't look good.

I guess if you play the game mostly from the Valkyrie point of view, it's not a great looking game and most of the detail work on the maps and the models is wasted. However, when you get right down into the game, it looks very good indeed for such an incredibly detailed WARGAME. It's not a FPS/adventure game or a 'fun' tank game.

Having said that, it could be made to look much better with just a couple of tweaks such as new flames for burning wrecks, skies, and explosions. There are mods for the first two that improve the look of the game but we need some new artwork to make explosions look a bit more convincing.

Have to say the modeling and graphics in the Iron Front mod using ARMA 2's graphics engine are just amazing, wow. :)

But, of course, if you tried to render that level of detail in a big battle like CM2 can handle, then your frame rate would sink like a stone. :) That's always the trade-off. But yeah, Arma 2 (also known as Operation Flashpoint 3 :) ) looks great, and it's the most realistic fps out there (that and Red Orchestra 2).
