I've just bought Red Thunder
This was my first Combat Mission purchase too . Welcome and hope you get the link/email soon. If not, open a help ticket or post here and we can invoke the power of a certain BFC person .

I agree .

Ah so that's really what SSD means? Of course I only have a small SSD so I'm not sure where that leaves me...

Do trenches also have the facing markers too?
Yes they do, and from a quick trip to the editor I think you can only change their direction by placing another one alongside, when they snap to each other. I haven't tried multi-'unit' trench building yet, but obviously trenches aren't all just straight lines in game so I assume you change direction as you go. Perhaps I'll try this later, this is a good way to learn about the editor in a basic sort of way .
As for the markers I think you're probably right.

I appreciate all of yalls help, I tried dumbing down the graphics and copying the file but it didnt work, I guess ill concede defeat for now..I never had this problem till I switched to SSD.
Just curious - so you have everything on SSD? Not sure why this would cause an issue with just this scenario, but there may be others out there who have a similar setup who could try it (sadly not me yet, SSD has Windows and not much else here). Of course we may get into a full-on computer component comparison fest if we're not careful.

@Lucky_Strike is absolutely the man to comment on this. His 'Hedgerow Hell' mod is a masterpiece, as are some other works .

The map is way too flat.
Looking at that, you make a good point. Perhaps the contours were a bit challenging for a CM map, although the recent CMFI 'Wintergewitter in Garfagnana' campaign has some pretty steep elevations.

I am afraid to ask
Thanks for the answer Ian.
I asked because I have recently started playing lots of PBEMs based in Normandy. The facing (indicated but lacking) was something I'd not seen before and nor I think had anyone else I'm playing.
Why I said I'm not convinced was that I don't know whether the indicated facing makes any difference to LOS/LOF/concealment/protection. If you say it doesn't that's good enough for me .
I suppose the only remaining question would be why do they still show facings after all these years (and patches) if they don't actually have a facing?

Ah ok probably I missed a link !!
Yeah, I stupidly assumed the second link was just another option for the download, but it has things like the scenarios so get both. Nigel has sorted me out on this and done a great job .

Resurrection eh, 10 years!
I am just wondering whether anything has changed since the posts above?
I (and some worthy opponents and designers) have been looking at this, and so far my conclusions are:
- Although foxholes display 'facing arrows' and the manual hints at being able to rotate, they don't actually have a facing and you can't rotate them
- The scenario designer therefore can't change the illustrated facing
- Neither can the player during setup, even if they can move the foxholes to another location in a setup zone
All of which may be rather pointless anyway if the above post is correct that facing does not matter as far as LOS/LOF/concealment/protection goes, but I'm not yet convinced this is the case.
Can anyone confirm or deny any of this?

Out of interest I just loaded this up. Took a while but not unusual (I've seen worse in a lot of CMBN battles recently). Looks like a great map and battle which I must try at some point, but that probably doesn't make you feel any better .
Assuming I'm not breaking any rules (calling @BFCElvis here) I'd be happy to send you the file if you PM me with an email address. The file is about 1.5MB.

One of the primary USPs for me is the 1 minute turn and infinite replays of the turn results.
Agreed.

Got it Nigel, thanks. Will give it a try .

FB a muddy affair.
A battle not a 'series' but I agree it's good. Played it by PBEM recently and had one of the best experiences - a heck of a slog though.

Yes, much respect.
On a similar and hopefully not controversial note I recently passed a large German cemetery in Normandy - if I'd been on my own I might have gone in (erm I know, I'm from the UK) but the rest of the family preferred to catch the ferry .

I agree, even without the number of purchases you have .

I think you have, but whatever, it's an interesting point.
IMO he is right about the issues he mentions but he is at best forgetful of the sponsorship he receives. And I say that as a supporter of a newly Saudi owned football club (NUFC).
And... back in the room.

Although I play WW2 (all titles) only so far, I'm interested in this. In WW2 I try to avoid the sadness of 'recon by death' but at the same time I also try to get some recon intel. But as for whether recon troops have better capabilities for this than others, hmmm, not sure...

Thank you, will give that a try when my opponent sends his next move and we try again.
I guess from what I've heard elsewhere (i.e. your worthy opponent, who I'm also playing in a different battle (KG Bohm) although it's taking me a while to extract my finger ) that this didn't work either Wim?
On one of your options above I've had problems in-game with the so-called 'Lost Boys', including against another worthy opponent in 'Boots on the Ground' recently, but it has not so far led to 'Lost Saves' in PBEMs. A common factor here which springs to mind as far as having Lost Boys is the bocage, but that might be nothing to do with it as my units were supposed to be moving along a straight road between two straight lines of bocage.

Anything Eastern should be packed with CMRT.
I agree.
Ideally CMRT would be expanded to cover the whole time frame but I'm not sure we'll get all (or any) of the missing years. I know there's some good stuff coming for RT but not early stuff. @kohlenklau was making a brave and skilled attempt at modding some of this but I think he's had to take a gardening break from the strain. Come back soon Phil...

That shouldn't impact on the performance of your SSD should it ?
