Back to your original question - the answer I believe is "no". There are many RT mods in The Few Good Men, and some of them are aggregations of some things - terrain, vehicles, and some are individual things. This is true for every title. But if you don't like the all in one you have, then you'll need to go find individual mods for the things you want improved and see how you like them. Swap things in and out of your Z folder. The all in one just means it's all in one package. It doesn't prevent you from manipulating every mod in it to find what you want.
Go look at RT terrain mods, read the descriptions and there are usually screen shots, download and experiment. People have different tastes, so just because one person says, "yeah, this mod here is the bestest ever", doesn't mean you'll even like hit.
Incidentally, BN probably has the most mods, because it's the oldest. The stock game looks much better as time goes on to the newer released titles. RT is kind of in the middle there.

I checked if there were perhaps some AI plan which was bugged, but there's just the one and that worked when I started it.

I'm not sure I understand your question? A) Are you saying you've played 2 hours and nothing has happened? The scenario is 2 hours long total, and I'm pretty sure there are AI plans for both sides.. There is a 105 battery at the start along with a bunch of on map mortars, and you get more in 40 minutes, plus a 155 (which is actually medium artillery, and 105 is light artillery but that's just words. All artillery is good). For the ones currently available I was able to select any of them with a HQ unit.
B ) Same comment. Selecting a Tiger tank, for example, no fire support available. Select a HQ and I can call from a number of mortars and a 105 battery.
[edit] There are AI plans for both sides. I went back and checked the play testing notes, because I only played this one from the Soviet side.

Good tiny scenario in FB Trouble with Siegfried Imo. It teaches how to clear mines, how to clear a building and finally capture pillboxes. After that little but challenging scenario you can tackle Campaigns of the Capture of Aachen. Blow them all up.

Okay, I take back what I said about boxes.  I think however I do similar things but hadn't thought of it as a box (or otherwise) formation, more like mutual support / overwatch.
I'm not sure what you mean about repair, but you were referring specifically to Prokhorovka?
All of the recent research (including OOBs before and after, photographic, testimonies from both sides etc.) has concluded that the 'huge clashing together' of tanks at Prokhorovka did not happen.  For example, only a handful of Tigers were actually present at Prokhorovka, and from what I remember from the research 1 or perhaps 2 were knocked out.  A lot of T34s did come to a sticky end, largely as a result of forgetting about their own rather extensive anti-tank ditch.  It is thought that the one-sided Soviet losses led to artificial reports of a more balanced battle in an attempt to excuse the losses to higher command (aka Stalin).  In addition, the Germans held the field for several days after the battle before withdrawing, so they did have the chance to recover and repair while the Soviets did not until days later, by which time I imagine their wrecks would have been attended to in a different way by the Germans.
Do I know the above is correct? No.  Is the original Soviet version correct?  I very much doubt it.
Of course having said all of this, the Kursk offensive as a whole obviously failed, whatever happened at Prokhorovka.

I use the box formation extensively in Combat Mission. But in order to do so you need lavish tank strength on hand. Here's a shot of the final mission in Blunting the Spear, and you can see the four Panthers in the foreground set up in a box. It's a beautiful formation because it puts two barrels in line, anything the lead tank can see and shoot the one behind can too. Mutually supporting. And it is flexible, as the box can rotate in any direction and maintain its integrity.

I think this has been largely debunked as a myth promoted by the Soviets?

Two men scout teams on Hunt. Press H after the first waypoint all subsequent waypoints also have Hide on them. I found the usually expendables have a much higher survival rate. Two rifles are not much use, unless your name is Clint Eastwood and order he locals to get off his lawn after the war.

FWIW: The primary tactic that works for all CM games (unless your units are all armor) is to send several 2-man scouts ahead to spot enemy positions - especially the most dangerous: ATGM's and ATG's (and tanks of course).  The best approach is to kill those asap with arty or mass fire from tanks etc.  Once the ATGM's and/or ATG's are dead, then one can maneuver with more "safety" vs enemy units.

Shoot them? 😀 Seriously though, that's the time to hit pause, and issue some new orders. Cancel the current orders and take care of the unexpected threat.
What you are describing is not unique. It's what's going to happen. Remember the old maxim "No plan survives first contact with the enemy" This is true in CM, and it's true in real life. Prepare to be flexible to meet new threats.
Maybe look up movement techniques. Traveling, Traveling Overwatch, and Bounding Overwatch.  Some variations on that will serve you well in any situation where you are advancing. Bounding overwatch mostly because we know contact is expected if it hasn't already happened. One element covers from a good position while the second element moves. Then they cover while the first moves past them. It's basic tactics. One acts as a base of fire while the other moves either to contact or to flank.

Cat and Mouse - German gets points for spotting Soviet tanks (with Panthers), Soviets get points for killing German tanks.  A tricky one thanks to @George MC.
In our PBEM we started like this but then went for each other in true Cat and Mouse style.  Great game, lives in the memory.  Soviet win for me after thinking I'd lost it half way though.

So you want to know about (tank) tactics? That did not come over well from your Initial post.

With "Box formation" I guess you mean "massing tanks" ?

And yeah that is what is favored in real combat and it is what works best in Combat Mission.
The problem is that you can't do that very often or just in a limited style in both realms.
Limiting factors are the terrain (swamps, forests, towns) and ressources at hand.
In your mentioned scenario "Cat and mouse" you dont need to fight at all...at least on the german Side.
But If you need to do it, it is best to have multiple Panthers to engage a spotted or suspected enemy position.
Overwhelm the enemy with local numerical superiority. Always consider that the other tanks shoot back and hit. So it would be beneficial to have one or two additional tanks that hopefully spot the ambusher and take care of him.

My general tactics are often to move the tanks in a pack pairs, so If one missed a shot or gets taken out, the other one can step right in to finish the job.
It is one of the simplest tactics honestly and a fundamental one that translates to mostly all encounters and to all categories:
Never let a unit walk alone!

That goes for tanks as it goes for infantry.
There may be some instances where a unit will turn rambo and actually achieve a thing but most of the time they'll get chewed up with no real gain.

I assume you're still talking Real Time play (and in CM)?
As I play WeGo (1 minute turns) to do what you say is rather difficult 😉.  I can order a move forward let's say on slow or hunt looking for a target, if something of interest appears the tank might stop and shoot.  And if the target isn't destroyed it might sit there re-loading to fire again, and again if necessary.  Unless something had returned 'scary' fire which made the AI-crew decide to reverse.  Other orders/results are possible, just an example (and I should say WW2 based).
In Cat and Mouse neither of us advanced a 'mass of tanks' in formation, it was individual tanks in supportive roles.  Slowly, keeping cover as much as possible, supporting each other.
Out of interest, what's your gaming background - is it FPS games?  Or strategy games?  Just wondering if this is relevant to your questions.

AdamPraha reacted to Vacillator in How to proceed in battle ?!
    From which side?
I played it in a PBEM as Soviet (and won, for what it's worth).
The idea of 'box formations' doesn't register with me.  I keep tanks in units in close proximity to each other if possible (within reason), and do things like set up for over-watch where I can, but I don't form 'boxes' as their positions are dictated by cover such as treelines, hills, etc.  'Boxes' reminds me of Waterloo, a different type of battle.
I might be missing your point though, apologies if so.

Real time can be fun for some small sized battles. Even then, you are going to want to press the pause button to issue or change some orders. Doing so on the fly while also monitoring what's going on is pretty hard.
Real time or turn based is a choice at the beginning - one of the start screens, where you select, real time, turn based, PBEM, etc.
Select turn based and the game will run in 1 minute increments. You can also replay each one minute to zoom in on a particular area. This is usually what I do - let it run at view 4 or 5, then re-run close up on a few areas depending on what I saw.
Everyone has their favorite way of playing. There's no wrong or right. That's why there are different choices and views available.

Real-time, for me, is nigh on unplayable once you get above a certain size of force involved as it's far too easy to miss things. Combat Mission has always been a turn-based game, We-Go was their USP when CMBO came out, and the real-time mode was added later but it's fundamentally designed to be played in turn-based mode and I never play it any other way.
The only way I could imagine playing in real-time might work, for me - others probably have better ways to manage it, would be to watch from a high level overview and then pause and zoom in whenever something interesting happens. But then there is no ability to rewind and find out why it happened. I re-watch turns multiple times to make sure I catch everything I want to see.

You choose it as an option at the start of each battle.  Not sure you can switch mid-battle, it's a thought though.

I play WeGo, and usually do one or more replays of each turn to get an overview of 'things happening'.  I then zoom in and replay things that look exciting or which might bite me in the *** if I ignore them.
But it sounds like you're playing Real Time?

But as mentioned above, this is strictly for the Norman countryside. It wouldn't be useful for Eastern Europe.

10 years ago? Then have a look again. It is very different and easier to navigate nowadays.
Lucky Strike‘s and Falaise‘ mods cover the environment of BN. I.e., trees, bushes, hedges, grass, etc for BN only. They cover it all in one, but only for summer 44. One exception: Falaise‘ mod consists of three different packages, one each for June, July and August 1944. He lives in Normandy and obviously had to make it perfect. 😊 Both mods are great. Lucky Strike‘s is perhaps a bit more colourful. But again, what suits you better depends on your liking.
