  1. It seems in cold and dirty conditions the troopers preferred the old 98K.
  2. It should be rare, not reliable enough was the reason it was superseded by the G43.
  3. @sPA505 if you react on a post just add an @ before a name so that the person gets notified. For a beginner I have one tip. there is lots of confusion about LOS and LOF in the game. People suggest there should be a more effective tool for this. My tip, use a scouting unit to find observation and fire position. Plotting LOS and LOF gives you an idea that is all. The scouting unit is a veteran, and they spot better than a regular unit. If I send an armored unit to that spot it is possible, they don't have a LOS. It needs to be communicated through the command-and-control structure.
  4. Spoiler. My first minor success was in recon observed my first ever SU 100 Scenario "The Rites of the Spring". The Germans have 1 Stug IV with a 75 mm L70 gun. Strategy will be a turning maneuver, means looking for a route to my objective which makes his position irrelevant. Panzer IV and the Stug IV are outgunned by this beast. He may not be the only one.
  5. How dumb of me I just installed it after some problems.
  6. It took me most of the afternoon but finally I have Fire and Rubble. The Windows Store has the tool to Unzip the files and it is free. You need RT 4 and there is no need for a bundle. Once you have RT4 you see the Fire and Rubble games there (The Games are Dimmed). However, you need to pay for Fire and Rubble and use the Key to activate it on your Desktop Activation App. It is the same App you used to activate Red Thunder as the base game. To summarize you enter two keys on the same App to play the base game and its Fire and Rubble extension.
  7. I agree the issue is generic, it is very much a roll of the dice, or you get spotted or not. In winter, the program may calculate differently than in summertime.
  8. I let the HQ do the spotting and if artillery is available use that tool to check where the HQ can call a strike. LOS tool doesn't tell you the whole story, he may say No LOS because you can't spot hiding infantry in that position. It calculates visibility in relation to the terrain tiles. I agree there is a lot of fuzziness into the spotting.
  9. Best bug ever, try to buy it and get my account blocked by BF.
  10. Yep, it is never smooth sailing when you want to buy something. One tip BreeZip from the Window Store opens the zip file, the software I had didn't do the job properly. This is the problem I suspect.
  11. Good start for Red Thunder tried to buy Fire and Rubble. Updated Red Thunder and got account blocked when I tried to buy Fire and Rubble. Notified help desk but no reply. Have now only a fully updated engine 4.
  12. Risky moves? Pause for up to 45sec before committing. Start on hunt 1 or 2 squares before dashing across. Don't ignore the stress levels, it starts with green otherwise it is blanc don't ignore the green once it is yellow or red you lose control of the unit. OODA loop find it a big help. Observe, Orient, Decide and Act. Stress level red hand it over to the AI by pressing the emergency button. Squad often recover from stress by splitting or split squads by rejoining.
  13. In WW2 mistakes had consequences and nobody had a bird's eye view of the battlefield. In RTS can halt time whenever you feel like it and you need to play from camera position4. I bought the game to have fun and realize so did the people who like to play RTS.
  14. Defense against artillery is dispersion. take this in account during the set-up phase. To play the AI the scenario designer has one turn and once press the red button to play he can't change his 'battle plans'. You have two avenues you do a lure and trap or a turn maneuver and defend. A human player can read your strategy the AI can't. Once you have an idea of the battle plan, he painted you win the scenario. Queen and King in chess, going for the Queen is called attrition you may get a minor victory. Going for the King is to maneuver the key to get major or total victories.
  15. Army Training Publication (ATP) 3-21.8: Infantry Platoon and Squad You don't have to go further than your browser. Sorry you can adapt them to WW2 the big difference is the Command-and-Control structure.
  16. From the Few Good Men Forum, not my work. I'm no expert, so please real experts correct me where I am wrong: Use keyhole positions; let it cover a tiny bit of your killing field (preferably where it can flank-shot a tank), so it can only be shot at from that keyhole. Do not make the keyhole too small, leave time for the crew to load the gun (unlike tanks, who always seem to have a shell ready to fire instantly, guns need to load the proper shell first) and aim. Overlapping fields of fire; preferably let two or more guns overlap their fields, with (semi-)crossfire being the best of course Foxholes are great, once the gun is seen and fired upon, your men will cower inside the foxhole and be very hard to kill, except for a direct hit by HE or being overrun by infantry Foxholes can be seen at a distance of around 140-200 meters (there's a nice post on this over at BFC forum) Put the gun itself on hide, if needed with a covered ARMOURED arc. Guns have a hide bonus before their first shot (camouflage is assumed) if set up during setup phase, so you want to make that first shot count. Place their HQ unit nearby with a short cover arc (to prevent it from firing and giving away their position) to do the spotting. They will pass the info the gun, who can then spot the target quite fast. I usually manually unhide the gun and give them firing arcs when I want them to engage. Be aware that things like halftracks and scout cars also count as armor for the covered arc, and usually you do not want to spoil your first shot on them. Trenches are not good at all, foxholes are always better. If you get trenches from the scenario designer, I wouldn't put a gun in them myself, since they are too easily spotted. But I have no experience with guns in trenches I usually assume my oppo can see anything at ~150 meters (if clear weather during day) with infantry / unbuttoned tank, so I rarely bother trying to be stealthy, especially with an AT gun, below those ranges.
  17. Last time there was in 1991 last year they wouldn't let me in for a holiday. I wouldn't know.
  18. Borg spotting is a dirty word. I agree we can't help it but try to play the contact icons the C2 structure generates.
  19. All the bicycles were stolen in Amsterdam. What is sad it never was recognized as a warcrime against humanity. Just something trivial.
  20. Some of the YT games I said some do us a disservice. Clickfest on RTS mode. If someone enjoys it good luck but it doesn't make a good advertisement for BF. If you would watch my games people probably fall asleep, besides I wouldn't know how to make an AAR.
  21. I agree: On the end of a turn, I was pleasantly surprised a Tiger brewed up. A 6-pounder ATG was the hero I forgot all about him. More experiences like that taught me to trust the TacAI more. Now I use a game of chess analogy. The Queen represents attrition the King maneuver, by maneuvering you will win the game. Go for positions occupy the right ones and the TacAI will do the right thing. My tip instead of waypoints check with a HQ unit where he can call indirect fire but don't go ahead with the direct fire. It is a good indication where to position your HMGs.
  22. I agree with your statement, it just gives me an idea. The LOS tool my give you a no LOS sign for a position of hiding p-troopers, it will be a different story when they stand up. I rather use a POV position than the LOS tool.
  23. I stopped doing things like that a long time ago. My theory is that the computer tries to calculate to the lowest tile which is indeed out of sight. Icons pop up and the TacAI shoots at units where previously there was no LOS. Try to play with your TacAI making the decisions. I started to enjoy the game much more. I just use the POV position from Camera position 1.
  24. I agree with you 100%, also there is the generic nature of the game LOS and LOF a fully identified target pops up. I honestly can't see where the problem is.
