  1. Mines, I found there is no need to find it out the 'Hard Way'. I think 'Hunt' is the wrong way to go about it. The fact that in a certain scenarios you have engineers I regard mines like any other enemy unit. One of the purpose of a minefield is to channel your approach in an area of your opponents choosing. While the other units are sorted in their assembly areas, the sappers attack suspected areas. Their approach is on slow on hand and knees. It seems to work no casualties.
  2. Blunting the Spear is the only German Campaign in the original RT. Learn the administration is a game in itself. Just read something from an advanced player. They played a huge battle in FB and it took them a year of H&H. Take your time is all I can say.
  3. You can actually go inside the building and plot your LOF there.
  4. Tone mapped in my graphics program, you lose clarity if you take a screenshot.
  5. Read your mission this one is an 'Assault' no points for destroying enemy units. The objectives are right on the end of the map. As long as you kill more enemy than you lose you will win. See one tank attack it with a platoon. Spot a platoon attack it with a company. Fire and movement. Your tactics depend on the mission. Spotting by attacking with inexperienced troops rescue them with your key units. You won't spot a hidden and camouflaged enemy. By the way I enjoyed playing this scenario.
  6. A good game is USMC Insertion and Interdiction. Time plays a huge role. Select Veteran and Above for spotting and see how the terrain features gradually changes. Play a lot of games and keep a log.
  7. A scout unit has 3 pair of eyes a platoon has 30 talking about multiplying. Two tasks for scouting, pathfinding, zone surveillance and finding contacts. The last one just travel on a road till they start shooting at you.
  8. I can live with it as the AI won't fire at only sound contacts. See it as area fire like we do when you have a strong sound contact in a building. Made me think I like it actually some more added realism. My whinge was I couldn't give a common sense order. The balcony is still a pest but at least I know my way around it.
  9. Ends well all well thanks @Sgt.Squarehead and @Lethaface still it could be made easier.
  10. Ok I try that tomorrow it is now 9pm here. Thanks for your help.
  11. Spotting ability is supposed to go up the AI still does silly things even with elite forces. If you the player makes a tactical mistake Crack and Elite units get shot to pieces too. Like flying in an airplane a first class seat won't save you when you fly against a mountain. Being in the front you are the first to go.
  12. Please project the camera from above so we can see the units with the cover arc on the top floor facing the balcony. And select the unit so that the building is transparent.
  13. I moved the unit on the top floor and put the unit on pause. Even without a cover arc two troopers are out on the balcony. This is supposed to be a top unit 'Crack!'
  14. Abandon also means that they disable it. A gun unit could be split like we do with infantry. Split the gun away and split the crew. They can find shelter and can rejoin the gun. With abandon itself I don't have a problem.
  15. It is best used I think as a movement to contact. Like entering a building. I use it also when operating in a forest.
  16. I first secure the building that means using the building as a feature but don't enter. To enter a scout on hunt with a cover arc hope there are no balconies. The pause technique didn't work this morning the unit still went on the balcony. My prime peeve you can't order the unit to stay inside and look through a window of your choice. I don't want a fancy house just to give units the choice to fortify a building which would make them harder to spot.
  17. I agree with you but the game eats data. I see snipers as a key unit. Enter a building and for example have a command: "set up position." May take up to 5 minutes to knock out some inner wall to create a keyhole or move some tiles. Make use of furniture etc. For every minute spent preparing it takes the enemy a minute more to spot him. This is for a two man team. Just a suggestion.
  18. Correct I use hunt when I have a solid sound contact. Hunt to move up to 12 squares to a firing position or observation post move from concealment. Slow, Fast Quick and Hunt tire you down. Just up to 4 squares for Slow and Fast, 12 squares for Quik and Hunt.
  19. You don't know what I mean. When you fire you expose your position. Houses have kitchens, hallways cellars and attics. The units can't modify the structures apart from blowing it up. They can't go up the attic and knock out a few rooftiles. When you position a sniper you don't expect them to go on the balcony. Thanks for the tip of the pause button I try that next time.
  20. Buildings are generic. Only one room on each floor. Units can't enter through windows. Units can't make snipers positions always expose at the windows. We even can't make troops observe through a window if there is a balcony. I really don't enjoy MOUT operations as your TacAI throws common sense out of the window. PS if you make enemy units surrender you can't give them movement orders. You must expose yourself first to enemy units in the next building. *Spoiler* for Breaking the Bank.
  21. You tried this? I had a similar problem in which I hardly could see my mouse. My mouse is now like the one on the right.
  22. Smallest unit is a platoon of 4 tanks. You can't really attack with stragglers the C2 requirements will let you down. I posted some stuff in Edge of Darkness it is a meeting scenario but there is no sense of the deployment of armor by the AI. The Brits have Scimitars and the Syrians T72's on overwatch are deployed in the town.
  23. Shelltrap below the mantlet of the tank and it can reflect through the drivers hatch. It is what happened of the Bovington's Tiger after it was hit by a 6-pounder. The crew bailed out the British had intel on the new German Cats. Things like that happen very often in CM too often in my book.
  24. Sorry to butt in, you never attack with one tank. AT-Guns are deemed to be camouflaged and the trick in CM is to use combined arms. It is attrition and be prepared to take losses. Give the AT-Gun plenty of targets his position is known that way. Here is an incidence in real life a company of JS2 pulled up in front of 2 PAK 75's. You know what happened they didn't shoot and surrendered. Doesn't happen in CM you may lose one tank often you do not as they will be suppressed. You attack if you can combine Artillery, Armour and Infantry in one team. The Germans have an expression Fingerspitzengefuhl. Compare it with your fingers playing piano. Each a different tune playing the same music.
