Speaking as an artilleryman, games overemphasize small arms.  In the 20th century crew-served weapons accounted for 90% of casualties.
CM gets this right. Machine guns, mortars and artillery are the big killers.

He is still making content and does not want to try basically *the* war game that tries to portray a realistic combat situation?
I figured this guy was not writing any more or something.
How can you go on and on about wargames getting things wrong and not try ones you haven't tried yet?

Ha ha, thanx. Do not hold your breath though, thumbs up might be just in order to get rid of the annoying fly - aka me... We'll see down the pipeline if this bears fruit. Again, thank you for the youtube suggestions. Josey Wales is now my favorite CM youtuber - didn't know about him for some reason beforehand.

Edit: Seeing how he asks for support while he makes his content do you think any CM guys here would be willing to gift him a CM title in order to cement the deal with him?

I contacted him again explaining you guys suggested that I present him a couple of videos. Thanx to your suggestions I've sent him Josey's Bear Claws AAR, Road to Wiltz by Usually Happless and Armchair General videos.
He gave me the thumb up.

I don't know if this is the thread for this but I wanted to bring up one aspect of realism that many people get wrong. That is; the expectation that men and vehicles will do things the way you want them to.
Many war gamers get upset if the squad of infantry you sent forward in a wedge formation don't form an actual wedge or one of the tanks of the troop you sent forward goes left around a small hill while the other 3 go right. Or the common "One of my soldier stood up in the middle of a firefight and was killed...stupid A.I. I wish they would program the A.I. better!!!" They usually blame it on the developer
I am happy when the A.I. do dumb things because, I hate to break it to you  but in real life Soldiers do stupid things all the time. I could write pages and pages of examples from my 25 years as an infantry soldier. It is realistic to have to deal with the frustration of things not going as planned. As a leader on the battlefield you have to deal with dumb asses all the time.
I get upset when everyone and their dog complains about these things to the game developers and they in turn waste many hours trying to program the men, planes, tanks, etc. to do things "perfectly"
This is realistic in everyday life. Can you remember telling a friend to, "Look to the right." and they look to the left? Of course you can; things like that happen all the time. No human that I know is perfect. Add stress and pressure to the situation and the seemingly "Dumb" things people do ramps up a notch or two.
Instead of blaming the game developers when things don't work as you think they should take it as a challenge to work around. I do and, quite frankly, it adds a level of realism that those "perfect" games do not.
I learned a long time ago that common sense is not that common.

Yes. The animation applies to all soldiers so both sides soldiers will be using the mod on the machine that has it. So if the mod is on the machine that is calculating the turn every solider performing buddy aid will be treated the same - treated as being prone. If the machine doing the calculation does not have the mod then every solider performing buddy aid will be treated the same - as kneeling.

From the CMBN manual; these three buttons will be above the orders panel:

The right most one, which looks like an intersection with arrows, is the evade command. Pressing it will give troops a fast command and make them ignore enemy fire (thus, even if they're pinned, they'll move). It's meant to assume risk and try to get out of a kill zone despite heavy fire. You can drag and drop the waypoint to wherever you like, like a normal one - and you can also change it to a 'slow' command without getting rid of the positive effects already mentioned.

I think he needs updating if he's basing his opinion of CM on series 1.
I'm happy for someone who's already made contact with him to send him a link to one of my vids, the Bear Claws AAR seems most popular. Or as @MOS:96B2P says any of the Armchair General series.

As a result of a thread over at The Few Good Men (FGM) gaming club I did some experiments with "Buddy Aid".  Below is some of the information that was learned and shared at The Few Good Men.
I did some experiments in CMBS v2.1 Engine 4 where I saved a game after taking casualties and then ceased fire and recorded the AAR results.
I then loaded the save, completed buddy aid, ceased fire again and recorded the AAR results.
    The score did not change.

3 WIA, (out of 10 total troops) then cease fire.
No buddy aid - 1 KIA, 2 WIA = OpFor Minor Victory 25 points.
With buddy aid - 0 KIA, 3 WIA = OpFor Minor Victory 25 points.

2 KIA, 3 WIA, (out of 17 total troops) then cease fire.
No buddy aid - 4 KIA, 1 WIA = OpFor Tactical Victory 45 points.
With buddy aid - 2 KIA, 3 WIA = OpFor Tactical Victory 45 points.

WIA (red base) can turn to KIA (brown base) from additional hits.
Buddy Aid is one on one however a team can treat multiple casualties in the same A/S concurrently.
A team administering Buddy Aid will recover ammo including ammo for weapons they do not have in the team.
Buddy aid on KIA (brown base) was about 15 - 35 seconds. On WIA (red base) about 1 minute – 2 minutes 30 seconds.
Casualties only disappear if they receive Buddy Aid. I tested 2 KIA & 2 WIA for 1½ hours game time. They never disappeared.
Experience of the teams administering buddy aid did not affect the length of buddy aid or the amount of equipment recovered.
Lightly wounded (yellow base) are not counted as casualties on the AAR screen.
To share ammo recovered in buddy aid the medic team must be part of the unit (“highlighted” unit) needing the ammo.
During testing on average about 2 grenades and 170 rounds of ammo were recovered per casualty. I know from playing the game other                                equipment (radios, binoculars, some weapons etc.) can also be recovered but I did not try for that in the experiments.
WIA (red base) incapacitated wounded are not counted in Parameter/Condition but are counted in Parameter/Casualties.
Buddy aid does not make a difference to the score in Quick Battles or in Scenarios.
Buddy aid does not make a difference to the score in a Campaign.
Buddy aid may only make a difference as a tie breaker in a CM tournament .
If I got anything wrong let me know but as best as I can tell that's the way it works. A little disappointed that Buddy Aid has no affect on the score but I will continue to order my teams to administer aid. Seems like the realistic, correct thing to do.

+1 to that. I would go further and say that good tactics *is* about paying attention to firepower, terrain, cover etc *and* command and control, leadership and morale.

Ah ok I see what you're getting at. Well yes I have to agree that in game a +1 here or a -1 there makes no observable difference as factors such as the players ability, the cover available, the weapons you're being attacked by all have a more observable affect than say being in C2 or not.
What I would say (to borrow from Al Pacino in Any Given Sunday) is that at times, a game of CM is a game of inches and that the effects of the soft factors are real and are indeed affecting the situation even though it doesn't appear so and even though the affects are less noticeable than some of the other factors mentioned above. You're right, its subtle but that's what I like about it.

    Multiple tests were done and the statement below is true;
"Being within a close C2 link (Close Visual/Voice) does provide resistance to the impact on Morale caused by Combat Shock - troops within C2 range of their HQ unit are less affected by the temporary impact of suppression upon Morale as they are less stressed by being shot at and the immediate impact of seeing team/squadmates killed & wounded is reduced."
If you're not seeing  any observable difference when a unit is in C&C or if a Co CO has taken over command then I can only think that you have not set up the parameters so as to be able to see it. The unit needs to be suffering from Combat Shock, i.e. it needs to be under incoming fire and then tests can be run to remove the close C2 link by moving the HQ unit out of range and/or back into range to see the difference. I have demonstrated this in the video accompanying the post 'The Relationship between Soft Factors, Morale & Fatigue'.
A change in the Morale state is observed when the close C2 link is removed/replaced if the current Morale state is being caused by Combat Shock (suppression). It is repeatable and therefore statistically relevant.
The Coy HQ and Bttn HQ perform the same role in this respect as a Plt HQ and can be used to step in should a Plt HQ become incapacitated.
If you're expecting to see an effect on a Morale state which has been arrived at by Combat Stress (the build up of casualties within the unit or by units closely associated organisationally) then I'm afraid that you won't see one regardless of if the unit in question is within C2 link or not and irrespective of if the C2 link is being provided by a Plt HQ, Coy HQ or Bttn HQ. This is because a Morale state which has been arrived at as a result of Combat Stress cannot be recovered from.

In theory they would have an overwatch that would suppress the MG.  But if something happened to the overwatch.............  I would split into teams.  (Maybe you only have one team? Don't know)  If they can avoid casualties by crawling they can probably avoid casualties by staying prone Hide and waiting on an overwatch unit to come to their aid.  If things are so FUBAR that this is not an option........................   I would have them use their own smoke grenades (if they have them).  Then with or without smoke grenades I would have them Quick for 24 meters Pause 10 seconds and Hide - then Quick for 24 meters Pause 10 seconds and Hide - etc. until in cover. If I had multiple teams they would alternate their Quick moves.  The Pauses should disrupt the OpFor aiming process.  Of course you may wind up with a Casvac situation before this is over.

If you mean Pinned in an Arbitrary sense, and since the MG is far away, then I would use 'Quick' (in hopes CM gives a slight Moral boost for using 'Quick' vs 'Fast') to the House...However, if you mean 'Pinned' in CM terms, then it would be hard to move at all until recovered.

@Erwin, based on tests conducted and recorded, (@SLIM's TTP's come to mind) within the Combat Mission games, @Josey Wales is correct.  The software logic touched by Fatigue attributes does not appear to include any degradation of pixeltruppen marksmanship.
