  1. I’ve been reading the memoirs of Sepp Allerberger (Sniper on the Eastern Front by Albrecht Wacker) and it’s frequently mentioned how leaders were targeted to break up attacks and disrupt defences. This seems to have been common practice amongst snipers of all nationalities and is perfectly logical behaviour. Does anyone have any information (whether anecdotal, or otherwise...) about how Snipers function within the game? Specifically, do they actively target leaders when firing at units? If left to select their own targets, will they fire on HQ units before targeting subordinate units? Any game tips for using them when attacking would be appreciated too - I always find them incredibly difficult to move into useful positions without them getting shot to bits, whilst if moved to target a heavily suppressed unit, enough damage has usually already been done.
  2. @MOS:96B2P Yes please! This post, along with Josey Wales’ post about the factors influencing morale and leadership are absolute must-haves. The lack of screenshots on page 1 make it very hard to follow
  3. Well, I'm not Dutch, but am equally delighted by this module Having been to Arnhem, Nijmegen and Oosterbeek several times I can only agree about the quality of the maps too.
  4. Great answer – thanks for the clarification. I think you may understand why I originally asked the question ;-)
  5. 'Hits are calculated in 3D'? What exactly does this mean/how does this work?
  6. I'm sure just about everyone is aware of the advantages (and disadvantages!) of vehicles going Hull Down, but have they ever been quantified? I seem to vaguely recall a discussion about certain models of PzIV having better hull armour than turret armour, so being HD would actually be a disadvantage to the tank's survival. I may actually be imagining this, but if I'm not was that back in CMx1? And if I'm not imagining it, it certainly seems to make little sense ;-) What I'm really asking is, if I have an AFV that's HD and another that isn't, is the HD AFV 50% less likely to be hit (all other things being equal)? If not, what is the percentage advantage of being HD? And does it vary from AFV to AFV? Are Soviet AFV penalised like they were in ASL? And what is the effect on hit probability of being Partial Hull Down?
  7. Was this campaign ever updated? I loved the old ASL campaign and would love to play a CMBN version that makes full use of all the new capabilities and includes the famous bridge.
  8. Absolutely - KG von Schroif is a magnificent piece of work
  9. A really useful thread about the way C2 and the XO teams actually work - thanks!
  10. FWIW, I've seen exactly the same behaviour in the first 2 missions of The Scottish Corridor, using game engine 4.0.
  11. This continues to be gripping stuff... keep us posted
  12. Great answer, explains the situation perfectly - thank you. It certainly was frustrating, but given the two Shermans in question were almost 600m apart, I suspect what I was trying to do might fall into the 'gamey' category ;-)
  13. Please forgive the pun, but whilst playing A Muddy Affair (which, BTW, is an absolute gem of a scenario) a couple of my bailed/dismounted crews ran into a sticky situation (cue groans from the front row)... I had a bogged, then immobilised, Sherman with a perfectly healthy crew on my right, and an undamaged, dismounted Sherman in the centre. *Lightbulb Moment* I sent the bailed out, healthy crew across to mount up the Marie Celeste, but despite my best efforts, the crew wouldn't remount the undamaged tank, preferring to sit on the engine cover like it was a deckchair in the Italian sunshine - despite the Belgian winter climate. Aside from the obvious attraction of lounging around rather than doing any actual fighting, can anyone explain why the crew refused to mount up on a perfectly serviceable M4A3, complete with a full ammo load and toilet bucket hanging off the rear?
  14. Absolutely loving this AAR and now have emotional investment in the troops involved - please keep the instalments coming... Oh - and if you need help playtesting, please sign me up, as I've said elsewhere I've always been fascinated by this series of battles ;-)
  15. This (entire) post is quite possibly the most useful thing I've ever read concerning CM. And now I've read it several times, it needs to be removed ;-)
  16. One of my favourite ASL experiences was an Arracourt campaign game that (amongst many excellent things) featured Hellcats vs Panthers. I'd love to fight these battles using CM - any idea on a potential release date yet?
