As has been stated many times, hundreds of pages ago, it was an attempted coup backed up by a military invasion.  When it didn't work Putin was stuck.  So he just keeps mass murdering Ukrainians and throwing RU lives at it until he can get some kind of face-saving outcome.  Meanwhile he'll keep undermining western political systems w disinformation and bribery -- cheap and effective.  And once he's rebuilt he'll be at it again in the next ex-soviet republic, or in Moldova, or wherever else.
Actually I'd like to see UKR take a brigade or so and overrun Transnistria (sp?).  That would be fun.  I know they probably can't right now but would be dang good punch in the nose for ol' Putin.

If Ukrainian pilot in a fighter jet snuck 250 kilometers into Russian air defense and shot down AWACS then I don't know how he would fit into his plane with those enormous balls (or ovaries I guess).

I never could hit anything w these in CMSF2.  My guys would fire at ~400m and it would miss by 100m, up, left right, down.  I hope they are better in real life.

The fallacy that you are pointing out is one we see with cold fusion, self driving cars, etc. I can't count the amount of times in the last 10 years in which someone says "Well, Silicon Valley (or VC money, or the USG, or China...take your pick) is going all in on X so it's certain to be resolved". That's not how it works. Challenges of that scale and complexity don't just evaporate with money and attention...especially in a case like drones where the challenge hasn't even reach the capabilities we can already see coming around the next iterative bend. 
The blithe dismissal of the issue with a blank assertion that big militaries with enormous physical and mental investment and successful track records in old ways of making war reminds of me a certain application of élan vital with a result that's more than likely to be similar.

I'm confused.  Where else would someone get something this stupid?  I used to work w a guy who would come in every day spouting whatever nonsense he heard on rightwing radio on his drive, only to be devastated, continually by his coworkers who simply fact checked his nonsense.  Kimbosbread does this all the time.  Here, he triumphantly announces that the aid not happening is all the fault of the guy trying to actually get the aid instead of the people holding the aid hostage.
