Is there a way to disable the user interface or do you cut it out of your screenshots?

What is this? Is this proof that Shock Force is set in an alternate timeline where Assad allied with space aliens?

I don't use Windows; I'm on a Mac, a fact that I have announced probably a hundred times on this board. And yes I know all about startup items. But that is irrelevant since I rarely start up my Mac, but simply rouse it from sleep. But that damned Steam ap interrupted me for minutes at a time whenever I was using my Mac and it felt like doing so. So you smart ass Windows users can just crawl back in your caves and stop mocking me.

Honestly I am so grateful for the reduced price for previous owners of the game. $35 to bring the who deal up to engine 4 is not a bad deal, I mean we're getting on board regular/vehicle mounted mortars and the updated QB force selection. That right there is worth the money to me. It's also the kind of stuff that keeps me coming back, and getting new stuff whenever I can.

As someone who has worked in IT, let me tell you that there is no bottom limit on computer literacy. I've seen things, you people wouldn't believe.
    On Steam:
I think BFC has good reason to keep off Steam. Besides the issue of licensing and Valve's cut, the main issue is the Steam user base. How many customers would Steam bring? I think significantly less than one thinks. Let's take a look at some stats from Steam Charts ( http://steamcharts.com )
Theatre of War 2: Kursk -- Monthly Average Players per Day: 2.3
Theatre of War -- Monthly Average Players per Day: 2.2
Graviteam Tactics: Mius Front -- Monthly Average Players per Day: 15.9
Tank Warfare: Tunisia 1943 -- Monthly Average Players per Day: 6.5
Steel Division: Normandy 44 -- Monthly Average Players per Day: 395.5
    Wargame: Red Dragon -- 699.7
    Arma 3: 16,329.6
Tactics games aren't really popular, even when compared to related genres. I seriously doubt the move to Steam would offer a significant increase in users. This being said, I'd love to see the older CM games on GOG! I think GOG is a much more friendly platform to old-ish tactics games.

If you move those around i guess that you might have to tweak other things also...to match...

my game use of scouts is to push em up to the point they get shot at, as fast as possible without them getting destroyed. at that point there are a few different ways to go from.

    1. i can throw the enemy(even recon BRDM´s with their 2x4 man support can do something agains a lowish uncon outpost...)i do so, and continue onwards till i fond more enemys.

    2. i can pass the enmy, wich is unlikely in most CM situations. if i can i will try and continue recon past the enemy forward positions to get more info on enemy positions in the rear. great stuff if it works, however likely you loose the recon team that way

    3. if opposition is stiff and i can bust out, my guys will and go somewhere else to look up another way if there is an inteessting area, if not they simply wait for reinforcements.

    4. if there is no way through and no other way to check out they try to break from the fight and stay not far away observing the area like suggested in "3".

no matter what outcome after the enemy is found, when you found enemy, recon job is mostly done anyways. the player knows up to wich point he safely can "rush" his reinforcements and where to unmount the guys.
its a matter of saveing preciouse turns you need to spott for arty missions later on or whatever...

    my take on it.

Still can't understand why some folks care so much to keep pushing Steam on and on... and on... when it's so clearly not wanted by BF or most players on these forums - just the same 3 or 4 people.   Is there an agenda here?

And imagine if all those STEAM users then started asking for CM to be more like a FPS etc - more like Call of Duty, or one of the real time games, or StarWars franchise...
The fact is that this a tiny tiny niche within a niche.  Look at the huge success (not) of board wargames marketwise compared to "family games"?
STEAM appeals to a completely different market and demographic and if BF ever decided to pander to that market am confident the new CM game system that would evolve due to market pressure would no longer appeal to the very people who are here on this board.

"You only get one chance to make a good first impression."   BF has a very smart policy of not releasing anything till it's completely ready and it applies here as well.
People are looking for, and eager to jump all over, flaws in a new scenario.  This system of MOS is so good I hope it inspires many other designers to stretch the envelope.  But, it's a very sophisticated concept scenario and it has to be as perfect as it can be to really showcase its features.  Due to its length, it's doubtful many will want to play an updated version if there is a problem with what is released.

Everything is present, almost everything works, what doesn't is beyond @MOS:96B2P's abilities to fix, but not his abilities to mitigate.....Just a matter of pacing and final rebalancing IMHO, based on about 33% of the latest beta.
It just ain't possible to speedrun this one and still generate detailed feedback, there's a hell of a lot going on, the player is left to devise his own plan, but the seperatists have plans of their own.....Put it this way, I thought I came up with some pretty radical stuff here & there, but testing this has made me completely revise my ideas of what is possible with the CM engine.
This genuinely is a campaign in a scenario, consequently there's a campaign's worth to get just right.
PS - In my current play through I was a bit too casual about something and now I'm in a world of hurt.....But it's awesome watching it develop and trying to extricate myself from the mess is proving hugely challenging!

Actually, that lack of total control is fundamentally what appeals to me.
Versus AI it makes life that bit harder, and thus a more interesting game. The AI essentially gets an advantage over me, but only as much as I let it through lack of planning, foresight and reaction. Thus majesty fight trickier, without artificially buffing the AI (I only play Iron anyway).
Versus Humans, the above 3 mental requirements are even more important, adding in the random elements of human deviousness, incompetence and bad luck.

It all depends on size of scenario.  When CM1 came out I was convinced that RT was the only way to play for the reasons you stated.
But, as I became more experienced (and aged) and started to play much larger scenarios, I became a religiously fervent WEGO convert.  Apart from playability, it's so much fun to replay sequences all over the battlefield to see all the small pixeltruppen stories get told.

Going through what I hope is the last Beta test.  Long scenario (static campaign) so it takes awhile.  But it's looking good so far. Just minor easy to tweak stuff so far.  Thanks for the interest.
