I'm still in Crimea. I have to be careful with every word, especially after being detained on 24th by police and FSB, so I will be brief. I am literally shaking as I type due to adrenaline, but we all need to be strong these days.
1) Ukraine will be free. The bastards will fail. I can clearly see it.
2) We witness an insane amount of heroism. Which is truly inspiring.
3) Thanks to Steve and other people from here who were kind to me in the past and took time and patience to communicate with me. It made a lot of difference in the end and made me a person who I am today.

On the fifth day of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, one of many unanswered questions is why Russia has launched a military campaign at huge cost with maximalist objectives, and then declined to use the vast majority of its fixed wing combat aircraft.

This is not unconrol sharing of the weapon. You come to enlist center and enlists either to local Territorial defense battalion as reservist-contractor, and receive all gears and weapon, or like a volunteer, attached to this battalion, and then, you receive only a rifle with ammunition (or you can take own legelly bought rifle). So, these units are combatants, because they are acting under subordination of local Territorial Defense Command and local civil administrations, which during martial law times also are a military administration.
BTW. USSR in 1941 also armed dozen thousands of civilians in so-called "fighter battalions" (rus. "istrebitel'nyi battalion") or united them in so-called "people militia divisions". Why in that case it is god and why in our cas it is bad?

I'm ok. I just too tired about all these news monitoring, so I havn't enough energy to write here. Today I tried to depart my wife from the city to her parents in more calm Cherkasy oblast, but we can't reach to railway station. Municipal transport stopped on the left bank of Kyiv, though on the right it works like and subway. 
All day from my balcony, wich exits to Obolon' and Vyshhorod periodically heard a sounds of shellings. Now I heard outcoming shots of our 2S7 Pion guns, located in 5 km from my house close to city limit. They fire somewhere to the west, where Russian troops concentrates to attack on the city. All day there were periodycal clashes on the line Irpin'-Bucha-Vorzel-Hostomel. There was attempt of Russian tank attack from Chernobyl zone through Ivankiv on Kyiv, but because of we had a time to demolish the bridges through the Teterev river, they halted. 

The reason why Russia will not be cut off from SWIFT is the fact that the EU is still heavily dependent on Russian Oil (27% of oil imports) and natural gas (41% of Gas imports). How is the EU going to pay for Oil/Gas if Russia is cut off from SWIFT and Russia will cut off the flow if they do not get paid.
IMHO, the reason why EU reaction so far is fairly mild is because this has a "France 1940" feel to it. Everyone is in a wait and see pattern. No one wants to make decisions that will be hard to reverse if the whole thing is over in 1-2 weeks.

All I can hope is that somehow, someway, this goes sideways enough to bring the fall of Putin.  I don't know how, but it's all I can hope.  This is murder.  I hope he's overthrown and tried as a war criminal.  It's absolutely astounding that we are returning to the time of megalomaniac war.  Unbelievable.

My heart goes out to everyone in Ukraine. This is terrible.

I am ashamed of my government. 

Russian ambassy in Kyiv lowered the flag on own building and departed to Russia. UKR MFA strongly recommened to all Ukrainian citizens to leave Russia among nearest 48 hours. 
Ukrainan troops last night got "red alert" readiness. Several recon groups of enemy under artillery fire tried to infiltreate on Ukrainian-controlled territory on Donetsk direction, but were engaged and withdrew. Looks like first probes before atatck. Also the enemy first time since 2015 used Grad MLRS, for the last night and morning 120 rockets were launched. In previous years they rarely used single shots with Grad-P. Ukrainain artillery and heavy mortars mostly keep silence. Most of the enemy assets, which firing on our positions located in residential areas or too close to them - looks like command prohibited the answering because doesn't want to give for Russia propaganda additional food, that's enough their clumsy work video-fakes for now to see who is who. Though, periodically, if there is allow a situation our troops fire back mostly with mortars.

Since building what was my first campaign I've taken a closer look how experienced designers have an historical thread to their campaigns, with semi historical branches, and will take that on board on my next effort. (Couple of maps are under construction for a working title of Fire and Roubles).
With this one I had a singular goal of trying to re-enact what happened step by step.
Fortunately for the player, even in the latter stages of the battle there were opportunities to fight on the front foot, but there's certainly some one sided or difficult engagements.
Next month I'm hopefully doing my first walking tour of the area so I'll be able to see for myself how accurate the maps feel. Thanks for giving this a run out and providing feedback.
