  1. Can you actually model modern equioment in arma? They seemd to go for a near future style, but everything I saw seemed more like todays/ yesterdays tech to me.
  2. The difference is that in the west there is a lot of media with lots of opinions. If you look at Fox and compare it to other western channels (Let's say BBC) you'll see that they voice a very different opinion. Thats something that is very important for a free society. Also, Fox is being accused for biased reporting by (alomst) everyone. I don't see general distrust against something like RT. Thats the difference between "The west" and Russia. Without a doubt the USA is an extremely powerfull country. However, I don't think that it is fair to call everyone who sees themselves as allies sattelites. Look at Germany. During the Lybian crysis, when the UN security council decided whether or not to get involved, Germany did not support the resolution. If they were an american sattelite, would they openly oppose American interests? Many western countries don't support the US and its politics because the US controls them. They support them because they share the same values. If you have the same goals you tend to stick together.
  3. I think it's great that BF offers us a way to distribute mods, missions, maps, etc. But the repository is impractical to say the least. Something I'd like to see is a tagging system. right now there is no way to quickly search for files that can be used in my game. Sure, I can find out what addon I need, but what happens if I need multiple addons? What about engine upgrades? You can't play a v3 mission in a v2 game. Tags seem like a relatively easy way to solve this. That seems unlikely. To unlikely. Why would you get such ideas? Trying to hide something by telling it to everyone? Until you prove who you really are I don't believe a word of what you are saying, Moon.
  4. I'd love to have both options (Of course. I don't have toimplement it. ) The thing about triggered *anything* is that it allows for more flexibility. Triggered AI allowed an AI that adapted to the player, triggered reinforcements would allow for even more diversity on the battlefield. Giving the attacker more units to "press the advantage" during an offensive scenario or changing where your units show up if your defenses are being overrun can really change the feel of a battle.
  5. But this is a great idea for future engine upgrades: Triggered reinforcements. Imagine the possibilities! I really hope that we'll see something like this in v4 or v5.
  6. If everything works out: Yes. But Release candidate will stay in closed testing for about a week, to find the "last bugs". Of course we all know that those won't be the actual last bugs.
  7. You could try to model protective equipment for infantry by bumping their stats way down and setting the scenario to "very hot", to model how it affects their combat capabilities. Everything is way harder while wearing one of those suits.
  8. The easiest way to find out about our fictional scenario is the manual. Download it to get all the details. The manual talks about a "NATO expeditionary force" which consists of both european and american units and a marine landing at odessa. I couldn't find anything more precise in terms of numbers, but in the beginning the NATO force is to small to guard the entire Dniepr river. In Juli NATO gets reinforced " with freshly arrived brigades", so I'd guess that you'll find more than one NATO brigade in Ukraine. The forces are used as fighting forces, but before the escalation some units trained together with the ukainian army.
  9. Nonlethal, but incredibly effective! Everytime someone mentions this all I can think of is a tank in the middle of multiple of those devices. You turn the first one on, the turret auto-rotates to face it, you turn the first one of and enable the second one. The turret auto-rotates to face it. Repeat. The turret keeps rotating. After some time the crew becomes to dizzled to continue the fight. I don't think that any crew is combat effective if all their vehicle does is make them sick. Is there anything to prevent this from happening? If not, when will we see our first rotating tank?
  10. As far as I know no. It would need to many resources to implement. Battlefront said that they would consider it if they received a military contract. Until then: No.
  11. I don't think so. Modern systems can find out from what direction they are being lased. That means that they will probably spot you if you lase them. So, unless you can kill it fast, lasing something is a complicated way of committing suicide.
  12. Thanks for the fix. I edited it into the original reply to avoid confusion.
  13. Psss! You are spoiling the surprise for everyone that didn't need the manual! But that is correct. To verify: Micro-UAVs can not be attacked by SAMs, but can be attacked by AAA fire. (This includes the russian ZALA drone and the american Raven) Medium UAVs can be attacked by both AAA and SAMs. (this includes the american Shadow and the russian Pchela-1T) The large US-UAV can't be attacked while observing. They can be attacked while conducting a strike (Not observing, which I falsely claimed) mission by both AAA and SAMs. (The gray eagle is our large UAV) The russian large UAV can be attacked while observing (Orlan-10) The gray eagle is the only UAV that is armed. Also, be aware that the "micro, medium, large" order is not official. Thats how I remember it. Edit: Fixed lack of sleep. Thanks, Vanir!
  14. AFAIK no. There are some other less important countries, though.
  15. Just like in Red thunder anti-air assets can engage everything flying over our battlefield. That includes UAVs. There is no way for assets outside of the scenario to impact your UAVs, however, with the "electronic warfare" option you can severely limit their usefullness. It doesn't matter what the UAV sees if it can't pass that information on.
  16. Moving back to the original topic of the thread I wanted to ask how the game will present strategical and tactical realities to the player, in particular to the scenario designer. In the WW2 games you could research operations and single battles, you knew who fought where, etc. Will the game present actual campaigns (Or battles) that are not stock scenarios in any kind of way? We know how the war played out overall (I really like the idea of win branches in the manual), but information seems pretty scarce to me. Any information on that?
  17. The week after release? Uhh. That week I won't be ably to play because... Uh... Internet. Yeah, I can't use the Internet because I will have to.... uhmmm... Go to a classified conference? Yeah. Exactly. A conference. Far away. About awesomeness. Good reason. Very good reason. But seriously, I should get into multiplayer. I do play against the AI a lot, but until now I never joined the olympus of fullfillment. (Read: The way this game is played best). I'll probably come back to your offer after getting accustomed to watch my pixeltruppen die even faster. Until that day we shall be mortal enemies, never to know who is more awesome!
  18. Also, no reason why you'd deserve it. You didn't even call yourself awesome. Pfff. Ken, do you have any plans when our "lucky" winner will be allowed to get publicly humiliated by you?
  19. Ah... The infamous Steve. The "official" Steve you are looking for is "Battlefront.com". Wicky posted the link to his account.
  20. Great video! It is kind of funny to watch those tanks while the excited voice in the background talks about completely unrelated things. The downs of knowing german.
  21. Take a look at this thread: http://community.battlefront.com/topic/112866-status-update-on-black-sea/ You'll find the first version of the story in Steves post.
  22. The best way to resolve this issue probably is to stop my units getting ambushed in vehicles . THanks for the heads-up.
  23. In Black Sea we will probably have to move infantry in vehicles from time to time. How does the game handle WIA/KIA soldiers if they are hit in the vehicle, or to be more precise, their gear? A big part of buddy aid is the recovery of gear. A javelin, to name an example, is a valuable tool. However, it can only be used by the living. Buddy aid is our way to get the javelin back to the living. If the soldier carrying the javelin was hit while inside a vehicle there is no way to apply buddy aid to him. Is the gear automatically stowed in the vehicle? If not, is there another way to get it back, or is it lost forever?
  24. If you could delay the US troops until support arrives you might hit the US hard. Where exactly will your air assets strike, in relation to the US positions?
