IMHO these games are AWESOME. If I had a Shelby Cobra I would just drive the hell out of it and never complain about the tune ups 😎

I would like to remind you what has been introduced in patch 4.0 because you complain a lot, and the game looks much better than version 3.0. I will mention only what happened in the gamplay and editor,  it's hard to call it a game break. The only thing is the infantry is leaving the place too easily under fire which seems safe.
In some cases, this is annoying just like spotting a short distance. However, you can still play it.

    Gamplay
    Hulldown Command
Vehicles have access to a new movement command called Hulldown. This command allows a vehicle to move forward until only the turret is exposed to a specified target, and then the vehicle stops moving.
    Improved Infantry Spacing
Infantry on the move will now respect each other's personal space! While moving, squad and team members will maintain a few meters of distance between each other. Soldiers will also spread out laterally on the move when possible (some terrain may necessitate column movement, such as paths through rough terrain).
    Peeking Around Building Corners
Infantry units positioned adjacent to building corners will now automatically post some soldiers at the corners to observe and fire around the obstacle
    AI Proactively Avoids Artillery Fire
The TacAI that runs soldiers and vehicles will more proactively, and reactively, attempt to avoid incoming HE fire. Two classic examples are that the AI will attempt to avoid being wiped out by incoming artillery barrages and direct tank fire.
    Combine Squad Command
Combine Squad is a new Admin Command for squads. This command is useful for squads that have suffered major losses and need to consolidate their remaining personnel into larger teams.

    Editor
    AI Area Fire Orders
The AI can now be scripted to use Area Fire! Each AI Order can have a target zone designated.
    AI Facing Orders
Each AI Order can be given a location for it to Face towards.
    AI Withdraw Orders
AI Groups can be ordered to Withdraw towards their movement destination. Vehicles will move in Reverse to the destination, while infantry will leapfrog back while turning around to face behind them.
    Campaign Resupply
Personnel replacements and ammunition levels are now more uniformly resupplied across all core units between campaign missions, as opposed to the all-or-nothing check on each unit done previously.
    3D Flavor Object Clone Tool
Flavor objects can be cloned within the 3D view without having to go back to the 2D view.
    32 Order AI Plans
Each AI Group can now have up to 32 orders, increased from 16.
    Stream Terrain
Small streams can now be placed on battle maps.

there HAS NEVER BEEN GAME BREAKING BUGS.
Now the bugs in the 4.0 version is game breaking  in a sense in arty  and infantry reaction to it if you are not accepting of it, but all it has ever taken is to play the game in version 3.0 before that change was made.
what you have is 4.0 format not a good format for play against the AI if you are using arty. Any other way the game is played has been fine, 4.0 is good except for a few other issues.
For those needing to bomb the heck out of AI troops, 3.0 was always still available.
Yes, was it a issue that buying the upgrade and not getting the fix all this time was bad form. Of course it was, but don't act like the game is been unplayable, for it has not.
You all know 4.01 fixes the problems, the releases are close at hand, after all this time you might as well take your chill pills because nothing on your part is making it happen any faster.

Agree with you totally on this, I have really seen nothing that has shown me that placing a cover arc to try and get better spotting on a area works.
But I keep trying when I get units that are blind to units i need to spot.

agree, but not every mission is lots of Arty and trenches. I myself had to put some mission designs on halt due to the issues with the V4 patch, but I kept working on other stuff instead.

Play attack scn  perhaps probes xD  as for myself I wish enemy dismounts will jump trenches with direct fire HE...using air bursts does not seem to budge them either. when I have been shelled my memory says I ran from field forts but hardly a game breaker since so much cm does not use those.

quite a number of rather minor issues had been reported from players the recent times, So I´d guess (and hope) BFC goes through them all and check for validity and do fixes if necessary. If that takes the time we need to the see the patch, I´d be willing to wait even longer, also considering current V4 is fully playable with no true game breakers IMO.

Don't be so hard on them.. I'm sure all seven Mac users appreciate that the patch was delayed again to make sure it works also on their machines
You wouldn't really feel good playing the game knowing that somewhere in the world, a lonely mac user sat quietly whimpering in the shadows, rejected by his gaming community, would you?
For my part, I wouldn't be able to bear it. Solidarity, brothers! Just because a few people choose to play on a widely unsupported gaming platform shouldn't mean that I should enjoy any special privilege just because I bought a Windows PC. All animals are, after all, equal, and the nail that sticks out gets hammered down.
So carry on and show patience, comrade...

Just quickly going back to the point about the suppression indicator being objective or subjective... from my post ' The Relationship between Soft Factors, Moral and Fatigue'
"The Suppression Indicator is not merely a measure of incoming fire, more accurately it represents the units perception as to how much danger it is in based on the incoming Firepower, the immediate casualties sustained, and the Experience, Leadership & Motivation of the unit."

I don't usually explain myself to people who call me a liar, so consider yourself educated:
Your team using the Hunt command spots the enemy, and attempts to engage said enemy AS INTENDED. All commands attached to the Hunt command self-cancel, and the team activates it's "Take Cover" movement. Your team attempts to fire at the enemy they've spotted AS INTENDED. The enemy shoots back. Your team realizes they're in mortal danger, and plot a path to the nearest solid cover. The nearest solid cover is behind the wall. The team runs into the open in order to run to the other side of the wall. Once the team gets into the open, they come under fire from other unspotted enemy teams in the building to the right. Realizing they're in even more danger, your team becomes suppressed, attempts to return to their original position, and takes casualties. Here's another tidbit for your reading pleasure:
CMx1 games have absolutely nothing to do with CMx2 games. The foreword chapter from the manual for  Combat Mission: Shock Force was literally titled: "Unlearning Combat Mission" MAYBE YOU SHOULD FOLLOW THAT ADVICE. So what? That has nothing to do with anything whatsoever.

What about if the team comes under enemy fire? That's a bit different, dont'cha think?

    Hello Gentlemen
I had hoped to delay the announcement of this until the new CMMODS site was 100% finished and all the mods uploaded however due to circumstances I am pulling the announcement forward to... well now.
After recent discussions between GreenAsJade and Battlefront it has been decided to relocate the CMMODSIII site to fall under the umbrella of The Few Good Men where The Proving Grounds and The Scenario Depot already reside.
To this end work has begun on moving the modifications currently hosted at CMMODSIII to their new home at CMMODS IV.  As you can imagine this is a major job and will take a few weeks.  CMMODSIII will remain open until the full transfer has taken place so for now I request that no new mods be uploaded to CMMODSIII.
Within the next few days CMMODS IV will be opening the requests section for folk interested in becoming Creators (formerly Authors) and at this time the new upload process will be implemented.  This will be under the Instructions section of the new website but I will post in this thread to keep you all in the loop.
A few points about the new website worth mentioning... all files will now be held in cloud storage so even a catastrophic website crash will not impact any loss of modifications.  All files from the old CMMODSIII site will be relisted and recently with the help of @Erwin I have acquired approx. just shy of 300GB of modifications with quite a few that slipped through the net between the Repository and CMMODSIII transfer over 3 years ago.  So as you can imagine Im going to be very busy over the next few weeks.
Please do not subscribe to the new CMMODS IV just yet or you will be inundated with copious amounts of uploads... I think I uploaded over 100 today... you really don't want that many notification emails dropping in your inbox anytime soon!
In closing I want to thank Martin for all his sterling work over the years keeping CMMODS running and it's an honour to pick up the gauntlet where he left off.
Without further ado, here is the new site, still a work in progress but getting their quickly.

Well Panzerblitz was my second game, I selected Panzer leader first, heard it had improved on the rules. but it was not long before I had both.
But I am afraid squad Leader was the game that won me over, that was the start to a path of no return. Thus the reason I am here today. These games have replaced those early starts.

Well said. Personally I still love the graphics and I don't know any games that even come close to CM, let alone have better graphics. If CM2 would not exist, I wouldn't be playing other wargames, but would still be playing CM1.
CM is a rare breed and there's simply nothing to replace or succeed it. The current rate of production worries me though, but let's hope that's going to change this year. I'm 55 now and I hope to be able to play CM for another 55 years.

I am gonna do the same thing I did a few years back when this argument came up. Here's a pic. Now, I challenge anyone to tell me how the UI is supposed to explain this terrain in a simple picture or label that noobs (or anyone else for that matter) will completely understand.

There's a HUGE difference between the terrain in CMX2 and CMX1. The combination possibilities are massive.
So, for anyone keeping count, that's a red dirt tile, with half a house in the action spot, a low wall, two trees, a shed, some brush, and an extra tall grass and weed tile bleeding into it. There's no label that will fit. "Red dirt" doesn't cut it, there's a house and trees and a wall. "Red dirt with house" doesn't fit, there's trees and a wall. Nor does "red dirt with trees", etc. etc. Now multiply this ONE tile (with this particular combination of objects) by the twenty-three other ground tiles that could realistically replace "red dirt". That's twenty-four combinations just for this one picture. BUT that's only a one story house. That's only two trees. What about a two story house? What about three trees? Or one tree? Or bushes instead of trees? Or bushes instead of trees with a tall wall? See where I am going here? The only way it flies (without going crazy with descriptions) is if the tile is a completely plain version of itself; red dirt with nothing else, tall grass with nothing else. Other than that, WTF?

Gafford reacted to Liberator in CM2 finally runs under Linux with Wine
As a Linux user I sometimes look through WineHQ for capabilities of running some Windows stuff in my favourite OS. Last week I've found that there is a Wine patch that enable run CM2. It seems that it passed unnoticed, so I'm writing it here.
So far, I've tested demo versions of CMRT, CMFI and CMBS and on my 8-year-old laptop (Linux Mint 19, Wine 3.20) they all run without any issues.
The question is: how it looks with full versions? I'd like to know that they work before purchasing. If there are another Linux users (who don't want to dual-boot anymore) I would appreciate for sharing the results of the tests.

I got dragged around a Lavender farm by my wife and a visiting mate. We arrive, look at a block of Lavender, two minutes later wife's mate has wandered off somewhere else and shouts out, 'oh look at this' my response of 'is it more Lavender' (which predictably it was) did not go down well.
Definitely a morning of my life I'll never get back - but I suppose the upside of it is that I can agree with @MikeyDbased on personal experience that Lavender is not modelled brilliantly in the game. I doubt Lavender realism will make the patch either for those of you who believe that the game is broken because of it.

CanuckGamer, I am also wanting the earlier years and N Africa.  but RT is really, really fun.  The russians have good gear and are very good at making war by 1944.  I am doing my first campaign as russians and it's great.  The germans have MG42s, but russians have more men.  So suppress supress supress & assault!   As the germans, it's a case of great gear but not enough of anything.
then end of the war should have hungarian winter campaigns, which were large, very intense combined arms operations with both sides both on offense & defense.  Looking forward to that.
