  1. Swant, welcome to the forum: I like specialized teams with binoculars, especially sniper teams. I try to set up a sniper net of three to five different sniper teams (depending on the size of the map) across the map in observation/listening posts (OP/LPs) to spot OpFor units and feed the information to the rest of my force. I put them in positions that offer good line of site and/or line of site to an area of interest like a ford across a river, an avenue of approach, key terrain etc. I also make sure they are set on short target arcs and alternate having them on the hide command every few minutes or when I think an OpFor unit might be able to spot them. I have the most success with this tactic on defense when the OpFor is moving into my area. It still works on the offense but can be a little more problematic since sometimes a team will need to advance to a new OP/LP and be exposed to all the dangers of moving on the battlefield. Also in the top right corner of this page there is a search box. If you type in sniper and set the topic to forums you will find several discussions/debates about them.
  2. Yes, this is a very cool game. Not just the mortar rounds but also the tank smoke canisters are detailed. Even if it was in English instead of German (maybe this was corrected by now). I was still very impressed the first time I noticed the writing.
  3. This brings back some memories. I also read Sgt. Rock. I wish I still had some of those comic books.
  4. Very nice...... it will take some getting use to... but nice.
  5. I have Into The Green loaded up and ready to cross the line of departure. Are any mods recommended for this one? Most of my force specific mods are for US TOE. Vanilla is fine but I like to take screen shots as I work my way through a mission so I thought I would ask before starting.
  6. Yes, I know what you mean. I think I have myself under control and distracted by working in the editor........... and then sburke posts something about aircraft shot out of the sky with a crater on the map at the crash site........ http://www.battlefront.com/community/showpost.php?p=1573791&postcount=57 It is cruel and unusual punishment .........................
  7. Excellent looking uniforms and screenshots. I am assuming somebody's mod? Very nicely done. If they fight as good as they look you may have a difficult challenge.
  8. This is good information that explains how to merge the game mechanics with real life tactics in order to obtain the desired result. Information like this is one of the things that make this forum so valuable and why I enjoy reading it. Thank you womble.
  9. Combatintman, Thanks for all the help and suggestions. PM sent.
  10. In May 2013 Steve posted the below information which I am paraphrasing: The Base Game establishes the start time and the theater. For Red Thunder we're going to start June 1944 and go through to May 1945. The Eastern Front Families are basically divided up this way: #1 = June 1944 - May 1945 Red Thunder #2 = June 1943 - May 1944 #3 = June 1942 - May 1943 #4 = June 1941 - May 1942 As far as I know this is still accurate.
  11. Thanks sburke. Don't know how I picked up that extra step of copying the image twice. I removed that bad habit from my list for future screen shots.
  12. More than one way to do it. Below is my way. I use free versions of FRAPS and photobucket. Shift / esc pauses the game without the word PAUSED across the screen Alt / I toggles off unit icons Alt / h toggles off hit text Alt / j toggles off objectives Capture a screen shot with FRAPS Open with Paint Crop it to get rid of the UI at the bottom Save as a jpeg Sign in to photobucket Click on the upload button Drag the photo into photo bucket area that says “Drag here” Click on IMG tag to the right of the photo Then right click the photo and copy image Go to the forum Paste the photo into the narrative box The URL will appear Preview it and the photo will appear (Click go advanced)
  13. Drop the covered target arcs, cancel hides and let 'em have it! One more building, on one more block, on one more street, in one more neighborhood, about to be secured.
  14. That was cool. If BF could get that mine clearing line charge into the game the breacher vehicle could easily become one of my favorites.
  15. This would be cool to get in a vehicle pack down the road. I don't know what the rarity would be set at. I Googled the M1 Panther and read that only six were in service with the US Army. But it still gets my vote.
  16. This would work! Also if CMFG was set in the 1980s moders and scenario designers might be able to give us The Falklands, Operation Just Cause in Panama, Operation Urgent Fury in Grenada etc .............
  17. I downloaded CMBN Vehicle pack and upgrading to v3.11 Game Engine 3. I am in the process of running my US engineers through a combat engineer course to test out the new toys and update my Tactics Techniques and Procedures (TTP). I’m coming across some observations and lessons learned that I may post later. However I thought the graphics of CMBN did not look as good as CM Red Thunder. Maybe that is simply because CMRT is a newer game? But I did upgrade CMBN to the newest version. This made me look at and compare my option settings on the opening screens for CMSF, CMBN, CMFI & CMRT. I realized I had slight variations in the way all four were set. The one thing all four had in common was the antialias was off. CMRT and CMSF had no option for shaders (at least none that I could find). I had shaders turned off in both CMBN & CMFI. My other option settings varied. (I have a two year old HP laptop with Windows 7 that runs the game with no problems.) That made me curious how other people had their options set and what the best general combination of settings for the different game titles were for the average computer. At least with the three newer titles do you keep the settings the same? Or is there some advantage to having high priority on in one title but off in another title?
  18. Maybe there is no patch (per se) because the patch content will be included in a new module release.
  19. Tested the same scenario during hours of darkness this time. A thunder run through the city to the consulate front gate. Probably not the best tactic but it made for a cool light show with the tracers and explosions. The non-combatants listen to the chaos outside as the Marines keep watch.
  20. This is a handy set of instructions and is also how I use smoke grenades. I try to think of this as a basic skill when fighting in urban areas or hedgerow country. At the beginning of a mission, especially in urban or hedgerow type of terrain, I note the wind direction and strength in the conditions tab of the user interface. I also try to employ a counter tactic to this when my opponent pops smoke. Once a smoke screen is established the game mechanics will not allow you to shoot through the smoke. The exception is if you were already shooting through the area it will allow this established line of fire to continue. So when I see his troops throw smoke grenades onto a street or a road between two hedgerows it is a good bet he is going to run a squad or two across this linear danger area. I then try to area fire into the area before the smoke is fully established.
  21. Start of a mission with entry to an urban area utilizing screening smoke courtesy of a Stryker. And so it begins.
  22. Just a follow up. I am not proposing Battlefront visually represent all non-combatants. The abstract handling of them in the editor through the civilian density setting: None, sparse, light, moderate, heavy, very heavy works fine for most purposes. What I am proposing is not very much different than what is already in the game. A single soldier in civilian clothing and no weapon as a choice in the editor and now you have a non-combatant. Select one non-combatant for a Mussolini scenario in CMFI, or 20 for a POW rescue in CMBN, or 10 for a consulate evacuation in CMSF. Or whatever the imagination of scenario designers and moders can think of. I have a scenario I am working on in CMSF (using the spy trick to get non-combatants) involving the relief of a besieged consulate. I set most of the 10 non-combatants soft factors to unfit conscripts. So while Marines and Stryker infantry are attempting to load them into Strykers and get them out of dodge they cower and go to the fetal position when an RPG round explodes. I’m just saying this is a cool type mission to be able to create in the scenario editor and down the road I hope CMBS will include non-combatants allowing this type of scenario. And with the help of moders can you picture the SAS, GSG9, SEALS etc. going on some cool missions? Below is a link to the consulate rescue thread that contains screen shots of the spy/non-combatants. http://www.battlefront.com/community/showthread.php?t=117744
  23. With the firepower of the relief column added to that of the Marines the area immediately around the consulate compound is temporarily secured. The non-combatants from the consulate exit the front gate and head for the Strykers. Captain Reynolds orders the non-combatants into the Strykers. He does not have to repeat himself.
