  1. Not sure how to link it but I copied it below. 05-28-2013, 01:57 PM Battlefront.com Administrator Join Date: Feb 1999 Posts: 17,185 ________________________________________ Motorcycles present a unique challenge because they have unique physics characteristics that the game doesn't currently have. Fortunately for the timeframes we've simulated so far, motorcycles were pretty much relegated to messengers and other HQ duties. That's not true for 1939-1942 timeframe where they were standard recon element for German units before Volkswagens took over. When we get to that timeframe we're probably going to have to bite the bullet and support them. Steve
  2. mjkerner and Fizou LOL. Shhhhhhhhhh..... Don't encourage them.
  3. Thanks Rep. I am going to try this. If anything turns out as good as yours I will post it here.
  4. I love having fresh meat delivered on a platter!! Those Panther riders are going to do a great job of absorbing the enemy's lead production. Enough of that, and the enemy will not be able to produce effective bullets: we win!! Excellent technique...
  5. During a PBEM game my opponent’s tanks are in the process of breaking into two objective areas. This Panther tank was hit with small arms fire and the TC was killed. As a result it reversed and popped smoke. During the replay I noticed one of the smoke canisters in mid-flight. I zoomed the camera in for a closer look and observed the writing on the German smoke canister was in English. Not a big deal, just thought it was funny.
  6. Very cool photos. They could be printed out, framed and hung on the wall. Or used as wallpaper on the computer desktop. I use paint and Photobucket but have never tried to use the effects in Photobucket. When I get a chance I think I will give it a try. I could use some cool desktop wallpaper.
  7. The previous version was v1.12. The new version is v1.20.
  8. This makes sense and might be the reason there are no flamethrowers on the upgrade list. I like using the tank riding ability in Red Thunder for more than just transportation. It is also useful for C2, spotting and sharing information between infantry and armor formations. My fear is that since tank riding was not as common in other theaters it may not ever be included in CMBN & CMFI. For now I will enjoy the upgrades that were provided and hope for tank riding in the future.............
  9. Thanks for the reply. It is disappointing that tank riders and flame throwers are not in the 3.0 upgrades for CMBN & CMFI. A partial upgrade is better than no upgrade but I hope at some point in the future CMBN & CMFI are completely upgraded to 3.0. Battlefront should, of course, charge appropriately.
  10. I missed the live stream. I did not see tank riders or flame throwers listed above. Anybody know if these two features are included?
  11. There are some interesting training videos on that link. Those videos should be recommended viewing along with the Armchair General series and Bil Hardenberger's blog.
  12. Thanks for posting the tip. Every little bit helps. As you can see from my sig line I wish the maps had an on/off toggle for contour lines. I like a mod called Bil’s Ground-Gridded developed by Bil Hardenburger. It is in the repository. I think this mod also helps to identify subtle elevation changes.
  13. I downloaded Gates of Warsaw yesterday and got about ten minutes into the battle. The briefing narrative and briefing maps were understandable and encouraged my interest in the scenario. In fact I had originally intended to just download the scenario yesterday and not actually get into it until later today. The briefing was interesting enough that I decided to take a peek at the set up area and possible avenues of approach. Then I ended up playing 10 turns into it before RL pulled me back out. I really like the use of phase lines. Phase lines combined with the traditional occupy objectives gives the scenario more realism. I was in the US Army in the mid-1980s and we used phase lines in planning all the time. I hope more scenario designers start to use them. Instead of 1, 2, 3, most units had naming rules for phase lines – Example: Aluminum, Bronze, Copper ….. or in this case whatever a WWII German officer might have named phase lines. It would add to the immersion. (But of course maybe they just used 1, 2, 3?) I also liked how the scenario started with a small number of friendly troops to deploy. It looks like reinforcements will arrive over time which is how I prefer it. The small delay in more units arriving allows the player to develop the situation. If, when I decided to take a peek at the set up area, I had found several platoons, associated HQ units and all their vehicles needing orders I probably would have waited to start the scenario instead of jumping in. I will give you more feedback on the scenario as I work my way to the objectives. I am also in a PBEM game and of course there is always the RL stuff but I will post here when I find something interesting. So far I am enjoying it. Thank you for taking the time to make the scenario.
  14. I learned the following from womble. He posted this back in February 2014. Trees just give the cover and concealment of their trunks and foliage. "Being in a tree line" is not the simple concept you might think (as it is in most other games). If the trees are set on short grass or dirt, being prone underneath the edge of the patch of trees gives you very little more protection than being on a patch of dirt in the open. The different "Forest" terrains give some concealment, but little cover, and "Light" forest gives a lot less than "Heavy". It's also important to recognize that your concealment depends not so much on "where you are" as on "what the LOS has to cross". So if your team is in the first/edge square of a patch of heavy woods, they get the concealment of (on average) 4m of vegetation. If they're in the second square back, they get the benefit of twelve meters. If your lucky maybe womble will come across this thread and comment. He seems to have a good understanding of the game mechanics.
  15. With good C2, a partial hull down position, wood line concealment and luck the IS-2 Tank in the opening post was able to spot and get off the first two shots at a Panther Tank. The first shot missed. The second shot destroyed the Panther with a weapons mount penetration at 900 meters. Of course my PBEM opponent will now do his best to turn my IS-2 into a smoking pile of scrap metal. Did I mention this is a cool game?
  16. This would be great. I currently dread when I will someday have to replace my computer. It will probably be a good year or two yet. It is hard to imagine all the additional upgrades and patches that will be added to the current ones in two years time. Maybe I can hold out on a new computer for three years......
  17. That is a good rule. One that I sometimes struggle to follow, but a good rule.
  18. Very nice video. It looked so cool that I connected my computer to the 54" flat screen TV to watch it. Until the wife wanted the TV and made me disconnect it ........... Thanks for sharing.
  19. In a PBEM quick battle, where I command the Russians, I have a three man scout team that was assigned to a tank platoon. The scout team is in a wooded area and positioned on top of one of the tanks. The platoon HQ tank is positioned about 70 meters away in the same woods. The scout team and its tank have no visual or voice contact with with the HQ tank. However both the scout team and its tank have radio contact with the HQ tank. This is interesting because the scout team was selected from specialty teams during the QB purchase phase and has no radio assigned to it. Apparently the scout team is able to use the tank's radio to stay in C2? With the scarcity of radios in the Russian TOE this could be useful. I dismounted the scout team and positioned them next to the tank. No more radio contact. The scouts must be on the tank to use the tank's C2. If this is working the way I think it is, another possibility is for the scout team to dismount, move 50 meters away from the tank, observe the crossroads, then return to the tank and report up the chain of command? Cool game. In the screen shot below it seems the scouts can use the radio even when the tank is buttoned. http://i89.photobucket.com/albums/k208/kas4107/CMRedThunder2014-07-2619-40-34-93_zps5c67c8d6.jpg' alt='CMRedThunder2014-07-2619-40-34-93_zps5c67c8d6.jpg'>
  20. Thanks for all the replies. I think I will modify my soft factor selection criteria based on what I learned. I apologize for the late thank you. RL got busy.
  21. During a PBEM game I noticed my Russian recon platoon was out of C2 with the regimental HQ. The recon platoon consisted of three BA-64Bs and was part of the original TOE (Russian 1944 regular army, Tank Regiment (mechanized)). The battle was on a huge map with mostly open rolling terrain (Map ATK 031, 2480x2224 meters, open, rural). I noticed this C2 issue in the first 14 minutes of the battle while all the vehicles, including the regimental HQ tank, still had no damage and were not suppressed. They all had working radios. At first I thought the recon platoon HQ BA-64B might be out of range of the regimental HQ tank at approximately 2000 meters. However a BA-64B, subordinate the recon platoon HQ, was only 925 meters away from platoon HQ was also out of C2. The BA-64Bs have working radios (green indicator). Has anyone experienced this? Maybe I have my recon vehicles spread out to much on this huge map?
