waclaw reacted to Heirloom_Tomato in Frost, mud and the Bulge
Currently in game we have changing ground conditions based on rain, ie a damp battle field will become wet after certain amount of time has passed if it is raining.  I am wondering if the same will hold true for frost in the upcoming Bulge game. To be specific, will ground that is frozen and hard at 8 am gradually become soft and muddy at around 10 am as the sun warms up the ground?

This is something we count on happening in the late fall and early spring.  We farm some wet ground and just about every year we have a major rain storm in the fall and the ground becomes very wet and impossible to work or to harvest.  So we wait for the days when we get a good hard freeze over night and then head out to those fields early in the morning and work there until late morning and the frost is coming out of the ground and the fields become impassable again.  In the early spring, we use the early morning frost to help carry our equipment as we try and frost seed spring grains or to underseed clover into winter wheat.  There is usually a couple of hours each morning where the ground can carry the heavy farm equipment without making too many tracks.   As the sun warms up the ground we need to stop or risk making a mess. In the span of an hour, the ground conditions can go from leaving a light track to making deep ruts.

Given that the Bulge title is supposed to cover the war from October through to the end of the war, this is a weather feature the battalion commanders on the ground would have encountered.  I would expect to see many maps in the Bulge title loaded with muddy sections and areas of maps impassible to tanks.  As much as I don't like having my tanks get bogged down, I expect to see it happen with far greater frequency in the Bulge game. The tactical challenges of facing thawing ground will certainly be interesting.

    Hey guys,

I just bought Combat Mission: Shock Force and I decided to take a cool screenshot.

I edited it a bit to make it seem more realistic. Hope you guys enjoy, and feedback is welcome!

May I be the first to say goodbye.

Because I sense your time on this forum is very brief In its remaining time.

If you look at this thread, it was you that started it off topic once again with all your negative comments.

Your life must suck with all the attitude you have. I feel sorry for you.

So go ahead and say a few more things about what you think about the game and forum members. Because locking threads wont stop you, but banning will.

Then you should have locked the thread right away.
If its only for people posting "great" then i see no point in it staying open.

With routing we mean exactly that, basically "running away, leaving the battlefield (which is the map)."

That has been said about nearly every feature ever requested anyway...

A very good, and appropriate list.

    To which I would add:

better representation of close assault on vehicles. The current one, whereby an AFV can be 'assaulted' from up to 30m away - sometimes with an obstacle to movement in the way - is far too generic and allows something that happened on a vanishingly small scale to become almost commonplace. The real short range danger to AFV's were 'zooks, 'shrecks, fausts and Piats  not 'improvised' weapons.  better auto-selection of forces in Mix option, in QBs, particularly in the tiny and small categories. stopping the heavy 'clipping' that is still possible with AFVs. I know Steve has said this is very difficult but having, for instance, a tank drive 'through' another tank on a narrow bridge is a real immersion killer, IMO. Never going to happen. I know but I can still hope. Tighter C&C around out of command units. Ideally, no communication with them at all but, more likely, some limitation on command options. Less casualties, much more suppression effects on infantry under fire, particularly in heavy cover/buildings.

Make the branching in AI orders have more conditions, make it non-binary. Similar in Campaigns, plus simple dialog-based choices so the designer doesn't have to insert a scenario for every choice they want to accommodate. Updating all the UI elements to C21st standards (scalable, configurable, incorporating standard UI conventions like scroll bars and in-place editing). Camera height going to actual eye levels of selected elements. Allow Broken troops to rout off the map edge in all cases if they're still running away and they hit it; if they leave from within a setup or exit zone, they're not counted as casualties;if they leave off an unmarked edge, they're MIA. Improve the TacAI so it's more aware of what's around it and can react to that knowledge. Including more surrendering when cut off, surrounded and about to be wiped out. Especially allow it to abort/reschedule script movement orders when it's being forced to run a gauntlet. Tagging for units and AI order groups so that groups get orders appropriate to the kind of assets which will be assigned. Make screen edge scrolling toggleable. Being able to Tab to a waypoint. Think they'd improve all the families.

How about making the camera come down to soldier eye level? It would make it so much easier to get an overview of the battlefield, and make me feel like I'm standing there myself..

    Good for:

    Gameplay

    Immersion

    Programming time cost:

    next to nothing

    Really...
Can you tell me whats aggressive about the sentence:
"Who said its only about the hide command ? Its more about Spotters' posture overall."

Now thats what i call aggressive and insulting.

    just realised.

why is there no blood in cmx2?

wouldnt it be a good idea to add it? Gore aswell, gore would be even better

i know , or i guess that x2 engine is limited and all that stuff, but its not something uber crazy

when tiger fires and hits soldiers, there can be 0.2 seconds of nothing and then bam legs and arms go into air or just appear somewhere near

it would add to the atmosphere, now it doesnt need to be gory as hell but still..

and it would be really good bang for back feature

waclaw reacted to exsonic01 in CMBS Mythbuster - redfor vehicles smokes
Several test results for redfor vehicle smokes

    1. BMP-2 and BMP-2K's black smoke is NOT IR blocking.
I tested with AT-6 Shturm-S vs Abrams in hotseat mode. Shturm failed to see the Abrams in the open behind the black smoke, but Abrams clearly can see the Shturm through the black smoke. It seems Shturm use visible light spectrum, while Abrams can see in thermal, so that black smoke helped Abrams to kill redfor units lol.
One good thing of black smoke is that, it generates smoke more longer than white ones. The smoke grenade for black smoke discharges the gas more than 1~1.5 min, can provide the screen around 1.5 min even in heavy wind.

    2. BMP-3M ERA have NO smoke at all.
I didn't knew this, but BMP-3M ERA doesn't have any smoke launchers. Smoke button is deactivated from the beginning. I will not use this unit anymore from this moment. (Maybe against UA army?)

    3. BMP-3M Shtora and T-90A can launch smoke only twice.
Actually, BMP-3M Shtora have more smoke launchers on the turret than other BMP-3 variants. It launches 6 smoke at once, so field more wider smoke. That is all. Total possible number of smoke discharge is 2, as same as other redfor vehicles. There are no 3+ smoke discharging redfor vehicles in this game. Is this true for real world Rus vehicles?

    4. Shturm-S automatically changes the position after launch.
This was surprising, I didn't expect the Shturm-S can shoot & scoot automatically. However, I think it would be anyway useless against Abrams or Bradley's optics. In addition, this kind of unwanted movement would expose its position, or easily give up good hull down position, and I don't know how to stop automated shoot and scoot. So, I think I won't use this unit.

I understand, but write what you want to improve in version 4.0 (something from this list wishes) - eg. add beautiful explosions, change the UI, etc. - These are much more important than the information about new modules - bought CMBN, CMA, CMRT, CMSF, CMFI, CMBS and all modules - I have plenty of scenarios to play - now more interested in the mechanics and graphics - ie version 4.0   - Many of the players are in such a situation (recently deleted threads) - give us some hope!

CM is like a fine wine, it just gets better with age.

I remember in 2005 when CMx2 was announced, many posters wanted BFC to keep the CMx1 engine and just make a few tweaks. Good thing they did not listen.

Thanks Steve for posting the update and letting us know what the present plans are for the near future.

But with Upgrade 4.0 still using the outdated CMx2 engine i doubt we will see much improvement in key areas.
Instead on focusing on keeping the old car driving through the addition of a new oil filter, a spoiler and new tires it would be time to move on and invest into a new car.
If money or know-how is the problem...well there is kickstarter, i think we all would support you.

Another thing i dont like is that we now have it Official, the bulge game will only include "minor" changes.
No new trench/foxhole system. No significant gameplay enhancements, no fix for long standing technical issues.

    Sorry, iam disappointed !
(But thanks for the heads-up Steve)

DISCLAIMER: i am not promoting hamachi,if you know some better software with clean and simple interface ,ditch hamachi

i'd keep it simple, concrete points without unnecessary stories

1.throw 120 dollars on 1 hamachi 252 slot room which would last 1 year (12 months)

2.make a youtube video promoting it (nothing special), no need for hollywood effects or get some fanboy to make it

2a   ask diplex heated to promote it in one video or someone who has lots of views, or better, ask everyone you know

    3. post a sticky thread about it get people to talk about it

4.get some people to manage the network for free (like theres anything to manage really,a 10 year old could do it)
you would spend 120 dollars and few hours of your time and will probably get a large (for our non mainstream universe anyway) multiplayer comunity for Real time and Wego* (course, pbem wont be banned there,it ll boost pbem aswell) games

and those who want to play real time or wego, will get the actuall channce to play

i guess it would boost the community aswell

again,i dont wana be labeled as hamachi propagandist,as i said, i am mentioning hamachi because its on my mind atm

    thats it,my sincere,objective,non political suggestion

I also really hope dedicated multiplay server for Realtime and 1min multi players. If there is a buddy-friend, chatting, and memo system, that would be awesome.
More multi player = more fans of CM series = increase of sales. Also I feel like the single player contents of CMBS are not enough, so hope the multi player contents compensate it. Dedicated server will greatly help this.

You always say "be nice and we can have a discussion"...
But how "nice" can you be if you want to criticize something ?
After every suggestion for change the first thing you hear is either:
    - no its fine you are irrational
    or
    - will never happen they are a small team

Them you say "hey but the BFC marketing suggests this is a ->new<- game so whats ->new<- about it except textures and scenarios"
Then it goes one downwards from there people are calling you aggresive aor wish you would die in russia (actually happened)...

Im done with it, you cant criticize anything about the state of the engine or BFC's business model without getting your thread locked.
And by the way i dont see all those threads criticizing CMx2 or BFC, they are non existent. Only "polite" bug reports and happiness.

I dont know how much longer you can ride the CMx2 train without significant change, i just hope you dont wait till its to late.
I was always a BFC and CM fan...
