  1. +1! Unconventionals are a must have for any modern conflict. Just look at the world around us: Ukraine, Syria, Iraq, Yemen, Libya, Gaza, Sudan, Somalia, they are all basically counter-insurgency operations/civil wars. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_wars_2011%E2%80%93present
  2. Also, regrading WW2 speeches, i like these a lot: (jump to 3:20 for the famous part of the speech)
  3. My favorite WW2 song: ....and he aint gonna jump no mooooooore!
  4. I hope Panzerleader or Panzersauerkrautwerfer see this thread, they certainly could help us with the question of what a crew would do IRL. EDIT: During basic infantry training i was told that "the effectiveness of my fire is more important than my protection from the enemys fire." - in german "Wirkung geht vor Deckung!". I cant say for sure, but i think it' s reasonable to assume a tank crew would handle the issue in a similar way.
  5. Excellent idea Kieme, although i would label it "Auto-Smoke On/Off" because that would be more accurate. And yeah i have had the same problems with M1A2 vs. BMP3s as well. It' s not only that the M1A2 deploying smoke after beeing lased by the BMP3 prevents it from killing the BMP, it' also a waste of the precious smoke. Imagine the following: a BMP-3 lases an M1A2 2 times, the M1A2 deploys all of its smoke and the next turn 2 T-90s pop up and kill the M1A2. Had the M1A2 not wasted its smoke vs. the BMP-3, it might have survived the surprise attack of the T-90s.
  6. Well it' s a problem only if you regard your men as expendable or if the enemy vehicle is not a threat to your vehicle that got lased. Keep in mind that a vehicle getting lased is only 1 or 2 seconds away from beeing fired upon, potentially with a devastating effect. I think that the auto-smoke dispension should depend on whether or not the enemy vehicle can be seen or not and if it can be seen, only vehicles that actually pose a threat should trigger a smoke dispension. There is no point in, for example, an M1A2 deploying smoke after beeing lased by a BTR with a 14,5mm main gun, i would rather have the M1A2 kill the BTR than waste his precious smoke grenades.
  7. Bagger 288 eating a smaller bagger:
  8. A few numbers regarding Bagger 288: Weight: 12.804 tons or 12,8 kilotons (That' s about 7 times heavier than Hitlers Landkreuzer P1500 ) Length: 246 meters Height: 106 meters Width: 46 meters Building it cost 100.000.000 $ and took five years. It can move 76.000 cubic meters of soil every day.
  9. I dont have any favorite scenes, but i have some favorite music: As a western fan you will certainly recognize it.
  10. This is stupid, i mean really stupid, but still one of the funniest ISIS parodies i have seen. Contains sexually explicit talk. You have been warned. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=f08_1424123423 Read the subtitles - they perfectly fit the video .
  11. Well it' s 'running' on my PC as well - but i doesnt look as good as i am used too. It may be my subjective taste, but i want to play at least on Balanced/Balanced with Shaders & Shadows on. I have the 'trees disappearing in the distance' stuff and similar things going on, so i kinda supsect i dont have enough VRAM. But i have been planing on upgrading my system anyways, probably next month i am going to spend ~500 - 600€ on a new graphics card, it' s currently the weakest part of my PC. (and Wiggum15 should you read this, i dont want to discuss with you what i am spending my money on - please keep your thoughts on this matter to yourself. Thanks)
  12. Nothing new to me, but still an interesting article. Thanks for posting.
  13. George, i took a look at the scneario recently and it looks really cool, but what kind of hardware specs do you have? This thing is HUGE ! And on your screenshots it looks like you have all settings maxed out AND and some sort of HD vehicle mod installed! The inside of your PC kinda has to look like that i imagine: http://cdn.videocardz.com/1/2013/02/GeForce-GTX-Titan-Launch-6.jpg Yes, those are 3 x Titan Z, each costing about 1000 € . I think i will have to delay giving this a go until i get a new graphics card.
  14. The Peng Thread is surely a fascinating example of how culture and traditions develop in a community or society. Maybe we should document and preserve it for future generations. Does anyone remember how the first Peng Thread started? I googled a bit and i found the following: Oldest Peng Thread i could find: http://community.battlefront.com/topic/22334-the-bloody-peng-challenge-thread-escape-from-downunder/ And two third party websites dedicated to the Peng Thread: http://home.comcast.net/~joe.shaw/wsb/html/126943/view.cgi-.html http://home.comcast.net/~joe.shaw/wsb/html/view.cgi-about.html-.html http://berlichingen.tripod.com/peng/history.html I would like to read the very first, original thread, but i havent found it yet. Googleing ""Peng I'm Taking Our Challenge Public", which was the name of the first thread, did not produce any useful results.
  15. Aris smoke and Veins exposion mods for CMBN/CMSF probably work with CMBS as well.
  16. Oh i wouldnt call the T-90AM we see in exsonics screenshots low tech - it' s a very capable platform that is definately a serious threat even to an M1A2SEP.
  17. IIRC Infantry units dont run out of ammo. If the ammo count of the whole squad reaches 0, the unit will get a little bit of self-defense ammunation (20, 30 rounds for the whole squad). The unit will use that self-defense ammunation very conservatively and should IIRC refuse target orders. If just a single weapon of the squad runs out of ammo, it will not receive self-defense ammunaiton. But all that is IIRC - If I Remember Correctly.
  18. 14,5 mm isnt that much overkill, it' s a common calibre among Russian HMGs. But certainly beeing shot with it is not a nice way to go. Once i read an article about the Taliban executing a captured Afgahn police man with an SPG-9, calibre 73 mm, 5,5 kg projectile with a 3,6 kg HE warhead. Horrible people, the Taliban.
  19. I laughed at the huge baguette coming out of the tiny box and "...sometimes port isnt your thing, so there has to be at least a 12 year old scotch." The Royal Marines must be the best army in the world if the worst thing that can happen during a day in the field, possibly even in contact with the enemy, is the age of the scotch . Do their officers get one additional course for each year of service? One day my grand children wil open a history book and read: "During WW3, the most likely cause of death for British officers above the rank of Colonel was over-eating rather than enemy action."
  20. I think that in general the militaries of most of the major Western powers are compareable in terms of quality. Germany, France, Britain, the US, Spain (maybe, i am not particularily well informed regrading Spain), Italy and interestingly, given the current financial situation of the country, Greece too. Greece has an amazingly large force of modern MBTs, actually they have about twice as many Leopard 2 as the Germans, besides their 500 Leopard 1s AND their 400 M48s AND their 300 M60s! Germany currently only has about 150 operational Leopard 2s. It' s quite ironic, Germany lends money to Greece and Greece uses that money to buy more Leopard 2s from Germany . Of course that' s a simplification of a complex matter, but the thought does amuse me.
  21. The french army surrendering to each and everybody is a common meme on the internet, but actully they are quite capable. I recently saw a documentary on the French SF operating in Mali and they appeared very professional to me. More importantly, the FAMAS is a really looking rifle. I hope we' ll see it in one of the CMBS modules. http://i.ytimg.com/vi/iOdMN-HoKP8/maxresdefault.jpg
  22. I thought initially that it was sburke who posted the image because Lacroix used his avatar. I thought it was some kind of ironic joke, that' s why i gave it +1.
