That is because I have made the map by recreating a wartime air recon photo - and I spent a LOT of time placing every single tree

Yes, if I remember from researching for the scenario, it was the XXX Corps. The only reason it's US troops in my scenario is because I didn't have the Commonwealth expansion at the time.
I have been working a bit to redesign the misson, including changing the church and redoing all the elevations, turning down the difficulty a bit, etc. And also to make it a CW mission. But I haven't found the time to continue.

Happy New Year to the CM Scenario Designers...
Thank You for all the work people have done over the years to entertain me and others...
The following my help in future scenario designs....
Part of my New Year Resolution is to have a tidy out of items I no longer use but may be of value to others.
So I have the following Job Lot (to be Taken as a Whole) for any scenario designer that wants some excellent articles about various periods of WW2. They date (publication) from 1976 onwards...
If you are not aware of After the Battle it is a Magazine that prints photo's of a specific battle or event in WW2 showing how it looks today compared to when the event took place. A lot of research and details with maps are usually included so a great resource for scenario designers...
These are FREE just the cost of the postage to where you live (please bear in mind this is printed material and weighs around 16kg).
    The Numbers I have: -
    14,32,36,40,50,65, 90-92, 94-95, 99-142, 144-149, 152-155, 157-159, 161-163, 165-170 and a Special one about Arnhem.
    https://www.afterthebattle.com/
Se the above link for specific details of each magazine and battles covered.
If you want these please drop me a PM and we can work out how best to get them to you.
If I have heard nothing by the end of January I will e-bay them....
FYI - I live in the UK and if I can get weight under 15KG Hermes charges around £10 to deliver to the UK.
BattleFront if this breeches any policy please delete but I am not making any money from this and want the community to benefit from the resources I have collected as a New Year gesture of good will to the CM Community....

I stumbled across these 2 videos by Ts4EVER that had been uploaded almost a month ago and was surprised they hadn't got a mention on the board. A pitch battle along Riva Ridge. 'Spoiler warning' if you haven't played the scenario yet, if you're sensitive to such stuff.

Screenshot was auto levelled in photoshop with a 25% sharpen filter (because anti-alias made it pretty blurred).
For a "completely" undoctored/unedited version see below. I don't use reshade or anything, those colors are vanilla plus it's pretty dark.

An AP round doesn't lose much penetration power in the first 500m. But let's say we use the best case scenario in that table: APC M51 at perfect straight angle: 61mm peneration. Then we add an extra amount of penetration because it's firing at pretty much zero distance.
How much extra penetration would that give? An extra 10mm extra would be generous, but that would still need 9mm extra to penetrate. So let's be even more generous and assume that it got 20mm extra penetration at that range. 80mm penetration VS 80mm armour. But there's one thing we haven't taken into account: The rear armour of a Tiger II hull is sloped: 30 degrees from vertical. We'd need even more penetration to get through the plate.
Also, the penetration tables often list the ranges where there's a certain chance (for example, 50/50) chance of penetrating. So even if the table says the round has a chance to penetrate, it's just that: a chance. It's not assured.
But let's assume the AP round somehow made its way through the rear armour despite all this.
The M51 is solid shot; there's no bursting charge.
    http://bulletpicker.com/cartridge_-37mm-apc-t_-m51_-m5.html
How much kinetic energy would be left after penetrating that much armour? How would the relatively small metal slug cause a "muffled explosion" inside the tank?
Here's a final thought: Even if that solid steel slug managed to penetrate and knock out the engine, the fire wouldn't spread to the crew compartment. There's a firewall:
    https://posterfoundry.com/cross-section-german-world-war-ii-tiger-ii-tank-art-print-poster-36x24-inch/
So, unless I forgot something, there are only three possible explanations. Either they fired as the Tiger was going uphill, so the angle made it possible to penetrate the engine from the top. Or it was a misidentified PzIV. Or... it was a Christmas miracle

As far as discount prices are concenred, I have to admit I have limited sympathy with those of my friends who say they can't afford it.  Rather than save they dribble their money away on inferior games and probably end up spending more in the long run and have nothing in their collection to compare to Combat Mission 😉

Badger73 reacted to sttp in QB map pdfs
(I'm starting this as a new topic since the links to even the old pdf files will be changing.)
I just finished the pdf which shows all QB maps for CMBN. It is a huge file -- nearly 400 pages and 330MB -- and is HERE. (A smaller, lower quality version for CMBN is HERE.) Since Assault, Attack and Probe versions of the various QB maps usually vary only slightly, I only included Assault in these pdfs. Those and (I believe) all Meeting Engagement maps.
Also, the old dropbox links for the other 3 titles will be expiring, so I'm moving everything to this newer account. Here are the new links for pdf's for the other 3 WW2 titles:
    CMFB is here.
    Here is Red Thunder.
    And here is Fortress Italy.

@Bulletpoint Yep, at the moment only one plan but USA reinforcements have variable arrival times which can help or hinder. V2 will include multiple plans, TRP placement already done, building improvements and once complete I'll post on the scenario depot website. Will think about weather/ground condition mix would like to do a snow variant. Was looking for feedback on this version, which you have helpfully provided. I could add more ambush points but I didn't want there to be a bazooka team on every corner. It can build more tension and lead the player into a false sense of security if they are deployed at varying intervals. The aim is to make the final engagements challenging without being impossible, its tough to get the balance right.

@JoMc67 - interesting, I've never heard of that line.  Advanced Squad Leader is as far back as I go - the notion of tiny cardboard StuG III's still brings joy to my soul.  As I see it, ASL lives on as Combat Mission - how fortunate we are!

Right.  This is the "run towards the enemy" bug.  Here a two threads mentioning it but there are other places it's been noted too; Irrational Behaviour and Annoying withdrawal towards the enemy behaviour.  As I best recollect, it was fixed in all the titles except CMBN and has something to do with the TacAI in bocage terrain.

If you have a thing for obscure weapons CMFI has them like no other title. Most obscure is the T32 37mm mountain gun. Before I was assigned to texture it I didn't even know such a weapon existed!

Badger73 reacted to Bulletpoint in Should railroad embankments provide cover for infantry? They don't.
I went back and updated the test scenario. First I tested raising the rails 1 metre, then after that, i tested raising it 1 metre with ditchlock. Results were the same - the raised elevation means nothing for cover at the actual square where the railroad tile is. But it allows troops to slink back and duck out of sight when they take fire, so casualties decreased.
Even without manually raising the tracks, the graphics show that they are slightly raised. Together with the steel rails, I think that should provide a small defensive bonus. Not a great fighting position, but at least something compared to troops that have absolutely no cover at all.
But the problem is that the game doesn't give any micro terrain bonus for railroads, and that it doesn't let troops fire from a prone position.
Probably I'm the only one who cares about this stuff. But at least I answered my own question
Also I learnt the true meaning of "embankment" - thanks @Warts 'n' all

I suspect that Axis/Allied manufacturing capabilities played a role here.  As time passed, Allied production outpaced Axis abilities and surpassed aircraft replacement rates.  Here's what Wikepedia shows.

I am a long time Battlefront customer, and own CMSF1 & 2, CMBN w/all modules, CMBS, CMFB. I could never really get on with CMFI though. But now that R2V is released, I went all in and got the lot. I have a feeling this will be my standard WW2 CM game for quite a while. The time frame covered beats all the others hands down, as well as the wealth of nations and equipment. Kind of like CMAK was my go to in the old days. Am downloading now, and quite honestly haven't been this excited for CM in quite a while.
