Lets hear about the greatest tactical game ever

Worms, possibly Worms United. -
Blimey, what a great trick for shifting remaindered stock. Kudos to Battlefront business skills, but my wallet is closed.

Sid Meier's Gettysburg. Oh sorry, forgot where I was. CMx1. Why can't my CMx2 troops stop moving like a bunch of crabs I've just hauled up onto the jetty. -
Isn't it monastery in both English and American?

Does Anyone Miss CMx1 QB Unit Selection Stats?
altipueri replied to $Pec5's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
There's nothing quick about QB selection. So when I finish work go home and want a quick battle I play CMx1. -
Go outside and meet some girls.

An alternative to random is simply so many it seems like random. This isn't the only game where I tend to think of the scearios as my "ammo" and don't want to use them all up. Even though I know I won't play them all. I just looked at the original box to my CMBO. 50 scenarios plus the random generator. No wonder it was such a success.
-
Wow, didn't know that. Thanks, will try it. One thing I always wanted was to be able to save the QB before starting and selecting sides so that it could be repeated ab initio. Ditto for CMx2
-
I think they've given up on the AI and QBs. I just played a QB got stomped by the immediate artillery then over run by 700 US troops to my 28 Germans. I read somewhere that they can't do the random scenario generator like CMx1 because they have to part script the AI - which I guess means mortaring those likely spots, based on the (human) map creator deciding the likely approach points, etc.
-
This is worrying. It'll be a space game next.

10,000 requests? Why, you'd better get back coding quick sonny; by hand; like we used to do in them 'ol COBOL days. Time for me medcin I guess....

An astounding plan for Battlefront

Champagne (as long as it is non-vintage) or port, but certainly not pretzels. As for Grognard (rather than Grog) I am the very definition of a Grognard - an old grumbler. Nobody likes us, but we don't care. Actually of course Napoleon felt rather affectionate towards Les Grognards. -

Battles from the Bulge by Panther Games, and AGEOD's various offerings including WW1. Plus CMx1. Occasionally CMx2 but it just a tedious drag compared to the delight of CMx1. -

CMx2 to CMx1 is like New Coke to Classic Coke. Hey, we've finally introduced moveable way points. Oops, had those in CMx1. Yes, all efforts to CMx2 and another five years should see it as good as CMx1 with better graphics. Still way to go though for easy UI. -

No, CMSF was the Edsel. CMx1 is the T or Mustang or maybe a Jeep to switch manufacturers. Why do you need a Hummer or Humvee or whatever, when you can have a Toyota pick up with an HMG? And talking about HMGs -

I shall have to make another offering to St. Jude. Then it will. -

Yes I kind of think they should consider RT only and WEGO only versions rather than continuing with a combination that doesn't quite do as well as separate UI could achieve. Must try that CMAK mod. Was playing CMBO earlier this morning - Toulon Nightlife scenario. -

I am one of the ten. I want CMx1.5. -
Part of the part quote above: "Often there isn't enough time to plan a thoughtful strategy in larger battles; players usually can't view the "big picture," thus they are forced to focus on only one sector of the battle at a given time; artificial intelligence tends to be poor, due to the lack of available CPU cycles; and play by email is impossible. So it was clear that straight real time would not work for us. But a pure turn-based approach did not appeal either, mainly because of its need to impose "phasing" structures to make the combat work in a realistic manner." RT requirements impose some restrictions on what would be achievable if it were WEGO only. Now if there were two interfaces one for WEGO, one for RT. Anyway, WEGO has style, RT by definition must be a clickfest because if only I were younger and my eyesight better and my mouse was on steroids I could react and click faster - and hey that's an idea how about a two mouse game - one in each hand?
-
The article shows all the more reason why they should have stuck to WEGO instead of drinking the RT Kool Aid.
-
It's hassle. CMx1 was so much better for quick battles generating instant scenery at random. Another sacrifice to RT I fear. I do do a bit of tank racing though just for fun.

Single player , turn based or real time?
altipueri replied to evo6tme's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I agree. I'm now understanding why CMx2 just doesn't feel right to me as a WEGO player. Why would you not have put moveable waypoints in an initial release when they were in CMx1? It's RT that also does WEGO rather than updated WEGO that introduces RT. Somehow it has lost it's charm too. -
Is fog still used in the LOS and other calculations and it is just that it doesn't show on the screen?
