  1. Make you life simple and download the full installers and stop trying to fiddle with steps that can easily get lost. In your order for the CM4 update there should be install links for the full installs. Those installs are kept up to date with the latest patches.
  2. Nice. That is a pretty good result - from a use C2 and get the intel spread to the units point of view.
  3. Historically, the gap between pre-orders and release date is 4 to 8 weeks. Rome to Victory was the BIG exception to that. I used to produce an estimate for release after pre orders were opened. I haven't for the last few releases. Last time I calculated it the average delta was 55 days.
  4. Then I missed at least one I am subscribed to the new site now...
  5. Yep, that's the one. The link in my post still works - looks like I picked the right choices and really do have a permanent invite link.
  6. For a player there is no real advantage. Some say the install process is easier but I'm not sure how much better it really is - just different problems as far as I can see. For BFC there is additional revenue if more people see the game and want to buy. We still have not heard how that is working and we might never - but there does seem to be new players so sounds like it's working.
  7. Cool these are fun. Is this his first CM2 game - I may have missed previous ones but the last one I watched was CM1.
  8. See, now that is a fair criticism. When they started the concept it was a new thing and you are pointing out that perhaps now it is not appropriate. Excellent point. My issue is not that BFC is beyond criticism: its that the BS that "paid updates are confusing" is just that - BS. The WarGamer article explains it quite well actually and it has been explained here multiple times. There is nothing confusing about it - unless you have an agenda or read someone who has an agenda and now you are confused by them. Hence my earlier comment.
  9. Note not a Mac expert but my understanding from the talk on the forums of the photo editing sw I use is that the new Macs with the M1 chips will have an emulation mode to support older aps. This raises two concerns - 1) will there be any compatibility issues especially for OpenGL that Apple doesn't really care about and 2) how long will Apple actually support that? They don't have a great history of keeping support like that around long term. Which leads to another issue what will BFC do with CM games? Will they be able to recompile for the M1? Will it support OpenGL? I honestly have no idea what BFC plans or what avenues Apple will leave available to them to move forward with the older games. On the other hand buying new Intel hardware eliminates that issue and leaves you to see what happens over the next few years all the while being able to play CM. Of course that could cause you to not be able to get the latest and greatest version of other software as vendors drop support for Intel machines. That will not happen right away so you would have to decide based on what other sw you use how that factors in.
  10. Sigh. I started to read and I'm sure I will eventually read it all but bloody hell the second topic after introducing the line up of a 20 year success story is to bitch again about BFC's upgrade strategy. An upgrade strategy that is key to that success BTW. If CMBN was not updated I am not sure if I would still be playing it - but I am nearly every day. Just because some people are confused does not mean something is confusing or wrong. I know there are people that don't like to hear it but - grow up. No other software out there is supported with bug fixes forever. It is normal for new features and new programs to require newer versions of other software that they interact with. It is just the way software works.
  11. Nope. It always worked this way. The trouble is most times your units get lasered they are totally unaware of the enemy. To see this behaviour they have to have spotted the enemy - likely first too - and started to engage before the enemy starts to engage. It is just less common than we would wish
  12. The way it is supposed to work - and I just experienced this in CMBS - is that if a tank spots an enemy and starts to engage the lazer warning system will not interrupt and the tank will fire before reacting. This makes good sense - if you are about to kill your enemy finish that job first. If your tank crew has not spotted anyone and they get lazed it is very much time to get away. Period. Given the lethality of the modern battlefield if you know you are detected by an enemy weapons system and you only have an idea of what direction they are - do. not. stick around. Some previous discussions (at least one comment from a tanker): Discussion about if the capability should even be on some tanks (again at lest one tanker commenting): Some practical game advice on how the systems behave and what you can do plus some commentary from a tanker along with his advice - words to live by:
  13. I thought the game automatically slows down tanks carrying riders. Try running a tank with no one on it and a tank with riders next to each other and see if they go the same speed.
  14. Did you read about CM Helper and Whose Turn Is It? I mean they do take time to setup so you could still be justified in saying it's more complex than it needs to be but with one of those turn managers it is way easier than trying to mange files via actual email your self.
  15. Try this: https://discord.gg/3psDuj2ZRd It is a permanent no limit invite link. I am not very familiar with discord so I went looking for how to give people links to a channel. Seems that inviting them is the way to go - thankfully you can make one that will work for anyone and you don't have to give discord their email (which is their default - yuck).
  16. And more important - to me - I am look for a few games in Shock Force or Black Sea here: https://www.theblitz.club/message_boards/showthread.php?tid=74316
  17. Check out the FAQ - it has a section "New to Multiplayer" which covered some of that and more. Recently a discord channel was started which has some player vs player traffic: https://discord.com/channels/750359959237034206/750367416072011816
  18. You might like @Bil Hardenberger's creation "Hard Cat Rules" which outlines a simple no tracking required set of rules to increase realism in our battles. The discussion thread: https://community.battlefront.com/topic/135087-hard-cat-rules-v2-simple-to-use-command-control-rules-updated-14apr20/ The example battle we fought: @Bil Hardenberger's blog post: https://battledrill.blogspot.com/2019/05/
  19. Does your original post provide more description? What does AR stand for? Sounds like some of the squad members should have additional pouches. Is that correct?
  20. Nice. And if one of your guys pulls the pin and then gets shot guess what happens. Yep, he drops it and blows up his own guys. Man that is fun / heart breaking to watch - depending on which side it happens to.
  21. The advice @chuckdyke offers is all we have. There is no specific formation movement or follow command in the game.
