  1. Thank goodness for that. I hate subscription software - except for things that are actually services (like file sharing, web hosting, email stuff that actually has running costs). I have dumped companies when they moved to subscription only. Having said that there would be no where for me to go if you guys decided to do that but I would *HATE* it if you did. ;D
  2. I am not 100% sure. There is a system where by the aircraft owner does not get true locations on the launch sites. This is done by shifting the outbound rounds somewhat from their true origin. I thought that the AA owner was given true renderings of the outbound rounds but I could be wrong about that. It could be related to that. It could also be a bug - not sure.
  3. Wow, I some how missed this. What I have read so far is fantastic. Looking forward to more. I'm all out of up-votes but I'll catch up later...
  4. And there is the reason why command delays are not a good thing. "You" are not one guy at the top giving orders down the chain. "You" are each and every officer and NCO on the battle field - all the way down. So, while you are correct that orders given by the battalion Lt Col would take time and filter through the Capt. and Lt.s the orders given by the Sgt right now right now to his squad of guys standing right next to him would not. Well not if the guys in the squad know what's good for them at least The issues is when you are playing you act as all levels of command. Many of the things you do routinely in game are very low level commanders spoken orders to men right there with you. Those should not be subject to delay. How can the game tell the difference. Yeah you cannot. @Redwolf hit on some of the other more annoying issues. In fact command delays were a significant obstacle to my enjoyment of the CM1 games. Why should my platoon Lt have minutes of delay just to get his guys out the building they are in and move across the street? Why should my tank platoon that needs to drive down a road suffer a multi minute delay just because the road has bends in it. I *HATE* that system from CM1.
  5. The models in the game are the models in the game. Changing the silhouette changes nothing. But I'm sure you are well aware of that. The silhouette is just a representation of the unit or weapon team it is not meant to be used to judge its capabilities or exact size. For that use the model in the game. Correct this is a limitation on the number of animations. Modifications? Do you mean to the model? I am not sure what effect that will have. BFC already clearly abstracts the use of weapons behind walls, hedges and in buildings so I suspect that changes to models will still maintain that but I don't really know how all that works so I cannot really answer that definitively.
  6. Now you ARE feeding the trolls Clearly the guy is spouting off. Nearly all of what he said was just silly the only thing that could have potentially been a new data point was data on that the Swedish trial (Greek now - I'm confused). I mean I didn't think that BFC had not already reviewed it but hey new stuff gets declassified all the time so you never know.
  7. Yep Big Red Button. I forget who first used it but I copied it from them.
  8. Absolutely you can. When you save you create a .bts file. When you hit the BRB the game creates an .ema file. The .ema file is what you want to send to your opponent. The turn counter will automatically up the number by default so if you save without doing anything else the file will look just like the incoming .ema file in the game's UI but with one higher number. This can be confusing but is not harmful. It hurts my brain trying to keep it all straight. Here is what I do to keep things sorted in my mind: If I'm giving orders in a PBEM game and I want to save I type "_save" at the end of the file name. This gives me an entry like this "Quick Battle Cat vs Other 012_save". I can clearly see that this is going to be my turn 12 to send to my opponent and I have saved it during my orders. If I need to save again I just let the system automatically add its number which gives me "Quick Battle Cat vs Other 012_save 001" in the UI. Once I am done and press the BRB I just delete the last 9 characters and let the game generate the file "Quick Battle Cat vs Other 012.ema" and send the turn off to my opponent.
  9. The Bliz is running two scenarios this month. Sign up for the October scenario of the month has started over at theBlitz. This month the scenarios are: CMFB: Hot time in Hatten CMCW: Brauersdorf The forum post on theBlitz for sign up is here.

  11. My absolute favourite CMBN scenario is Huzzar! It ships with the game.
  12. LOL there was a video? I had no idea I just read the article. I just watched it, cool.
  13. That looks damn good actually. My limited experience with soldiering is that there are actually a pretty wide range of sizes and shapes. None of that is currently reflected in the models in the game already. It doesn't bother me in the game currently. Adding faces that look like the above into the mix would work quite well. We had some really tall and some quite short guys in the platoon. Granted the women were skewed to the shorter side and the shortest woman was the shortest squaddie but we also had a few women who were over the average height too. So modelling that with a bunch of computer models all the same size is really any less reflective of woman any more then the men.
  14. The person quoted about wanting more points of view in the war (game) room was not explicitlt talking about skin colour correlating with thought patterns. At least I don't think so. He's a Brit so he is likely talking about the class of British citizen that used to exclusively make up officers and is still a large part of their officer core. If you get a bunch of people who grew up with comfortable amounts of $ and went to a short list of boarding schools taking the same education curriculum then yeah they tend to have learned similar views on the world. If they want to in crease the diversity of experience and educational back ground in their officer core then they are going to get some different races joining the club too.
  15. Niether. The APS modelling in the game models the system as one thing not a multi segment system. So, to compensate for that they limited the system to four cartridges (assuming you have the correct terminology because I have no idea). It's not perfect but clearly having 20 to 30 actuations from shots fired from one side would not be appropriate either without modelling the multi segments and areas of coverage there has to be some abstraction as a compromise.
  16. Me too There are some really cool things buried in the games' code.
  17. Or we could not worry that the coin is broken because someone reported having managed to get 10 heads in a row. Unusual an unlikely things do actually happen. I have no problem checking things like this out - obviously that's how bugs get found. Just know when its not needed any more. The other factor could be the intervening foliage - avoiding hitting branches could be causing the shooter to not adjust their aim the same if they were in the open.
  18. If the Bradley is under my command then one and done. If the infantry are under my command then they will run out of ammo first. That is based on my experiences in the game - that I remember. I forget all the rest.
  19. Anyone reading this looking for a challenge join this. @slysniper's CMBS tournament was really good. Very different and challenging. Totally worth playing. None of this balanced scenarios stuff - this is way harder.
  20. I missed that there was an issue with the method of doing it. So, not yet.
  21. LOL oops, yeah a lot more than me. I didn't mean to sound like I was replying to you but instead adding to what you said for the benefit of @Pelican Pal and anyone else embarking on this journey.
  22. Make sure you really start the game in Scenario Author mode. When you first load it up the units are all in their default positions and then after you press the BRB any setup areas assigned to the AI are used and the units jump to their true starting off points.
  23. No what you said was: Which I simply pointed out is not what any of us mean. OK I cannot speak for anyone else but I'm fairly sure - it's not what I mean. and there ya go again. The thing is they have this working in the Pro version. I have never seen it so I don't know if moving it to the User version would be considered a code port of if there is some aspect of it that they don't think is quite right and it needs more work. No one here knows and assuming something is as easy as a on char change is just setting your self up for disappointment. Steve and Charles know what they are doing and they have a track record of doing thing well and right. Just saying - that's a cool feature I've always wanted that can we get it in the User version - is more than enough. Getting your self twisted around about how easy it is or isn't is just, well, silly. Enough said by me.
