  1. I like this idea. This might be something worth BFC's time someday. Agreed. I have many times sent an AT team out of cover to get a shot and the timing of my pauses meant they either took their shot and watched their handy work in admiration for 10 more seconds getting hit from all sides or they are just about done aiming when they notice that time is up and they run away never taking a perfectly good shot. I think I have an AAR where a team does that a few times.
  2. Yeah, I have read a number of the pour money into dev and marketing, expectations are high, timelines are right and bad things happen stories. I lived one once. We took a really nice product that was making $100M a year and turned it into a steaming pile or crap whose follow on versions were always late and never good quality. Man that sucked. I am now and did once before work at a startup that was totally self funded. They made money on good product and put the profits back into making them better or adding new ones but only at a rate that kept them in the black. Sure we messed up schedules now and then (OK frequently:-) but in the end slow and steady really is a way to win the race. First company made their founders plenty when it was finally bought. I have watched couple of camera related hardware products succeed using crowd sourcing. The thing is though those were already developed with working prototypes they just needed the cash to put the $ into actually making the moulds and paying for the first manufacturing run. That's where that can work - when you have clear expenses and a turn the crank process to a product. At that point you are really just pre-selling.

  4. LOL @Warts 'n' all I had not thought of that angle. I suppose if it gets answered that will be good. Of course if it is more like why didn't I get the answer I wanted that might be less good @Xorg_Xalargsky, go for it I personally don't have time for that kind of writing. All that caring about spelling and grammar and making actual sense - it's exausting.

  8. It is kind of what I am wondering too. Mind you I can see an argument that if you don't have new stuff to enjoy you drift off and play other stuff. I can see that. But as you said once the new thing you wanted is released why not play it? Part of my problem is likely that I play tactical war-games I have zero interest in RTS or FPS games or even operational (other than if it drives a tactical game - I'm all over that). That does not leave much to choose from and I found CM so here I am. I spend my time on that game but there are precious few that could distract me from it and I have no where nearly played all the content so I just don't get the "not enough content", "not enough new releases" mantra. I freely admit that. I am looking for some insight though since I am curious.
  9. Interesting post with a some food for thought. Well that was a piss off. If you want condescending I can muster some up for you... but that was *not* what I said and it was *not* what I intended. You offered as an explanation of why your friends stopped playing your conclusion that there was not enough content. I offered my experience that it was not content that lead my friends to bail. If you want to take that as an insult then I guess there is nothing I can do about that but please don't take it that way. I was just trying to get clarification on that point and find out if more content would bring them back. I find it curious that some content was a temptation but the offering vehicle was the turn off. That is interesting.

This is an export of the bookmarks for the folder I call FAQs on my bookmark list so nothing fancy and, while I did a little fixing up, this is really how disorganized it is on my computer.   13. I know how you feel. I have two friends who used to play CM1x as well and I am the only one who is left... But is it a lack of content that caused your friends to stop playing? Will more bring them back? I ask because content has nothing to do with my friends not playing CM2x. The problem they have is it is harder. They don't want to work so hard. The end of borg spotting is for me the absolute best part of CM2x but they just cannot handle the way spotting works anymore. New content will do nothing to bring them back. They just want to go play battle field whatever where they runaround like maniacs for a few hours with their brains switched off. I don't know about you but I really don't want CM to start looking more like an FPS. So, I miss playing with them but I'm happy
  14. Yep good example. Another point that might be worth reminding everyone about is that in the CM1x days they released a game and some patches but once the next one came out the older game was done - over - finished. With CM2x they have taken on a huge additional amount of work to keep even CMBN updated as new features were added. That has been really excellent. Me to.

  16. Excellent shots. Ps. If you press <shift>ESC once the game pauses without the pause notice and after that clicking play / pause keeps it that way. Just slightly nicer for screen shots.
  17. I hear ya. There is a solution - buy everything . I know that's pretty extreme and it still might seem slow but it is what it is. If the number of wargamers were 5 or 10 times higher then BFC would be able to ramp up the team a bit but that's not the reality of the market.

  20. LOL moving large ice shelves is a much more viable solution than trying to nuke a hurricane out of existence. Even if the force of a nuclear explosion could do the job we should *not* be detonating those things in our atmosphere for any reason these days. We know the radiation would result in countless downstream problems and effects - none of which are good.
