  1. So uhh, any estimates on the penetration capabilities of that gun and the new ammunition? Ouch...
  2. I noticed that too, seems like the CMBN announcement pumped CMSF sales a bit.
  3. Try going to task manager with CMSF running, go to processes and set it's priority to high. CMx2 engine is 32-bit and as such doesn't gain anything from, uh I think over 2 or 4GB of RAM and only uses a single core. Just parroting stuff I remember reading aboot here.
  4. Also, regarding dismounts and their distance to their rides. We were told (and also naturally did) keep a distance of well over 100-200m to the IFV. When disembarking, the most typical orders were "Forward right open line" or "Forward left open line." This placed the squad a healthy distance away. Never hang out in the line of fire of your IFV, when sabot rounds are fired the "shoes" that stabilize the arrow fly out of the barrel and pose a serious threat to soft targets in a forward arc. Nevermind the blastwave, even a 30mm cannon can severely disorient and injure you. The forward arc of an MBT firing it's main weapon is a serious no-go zone. The blast from the 120mm will kill you.
  5. I'm going to step in and defend Paper Tiger on his choice here. During my service, in a time-limited simulated scenario, where a crossing needed to be made and it is known that it is under observation and a choke point, possibly mined we used the exact same approach. We (mechanized infantry) took positions on the other bank while mortars shot smoke and a bridgelaying Leopard 2A4 did it's thing. The only difference was we sent a bulldozer Leo across first, followed by tanks, infantry and CV90s with plentiful overwatch. We had F-18s and MD-500s flying overhead, simulating air support. There was no time or chance to start clearing a minefield that is observed. CMx2 does not feature engineering tanks, but it is not a huge omission. But in basic terms of terrain and scenario it was the same. Smoke it and rush across, but do not clump together. This was Finnish Defence Forces doctrine ala 2008.
  6. TARGET, definitely, since it makes your squads use rocket and grenade launchers. Needless to say these are great tools in clearing out a building.
  7. I belive WEGO comes from "We go," going at the same time, instead of the traditional "I go, then you go" arrangement of turn based games. Regarding the modules, I bought all of them and haven't regretted it. Each of them has great campaigns and scenarios (hell, the NATO modules has 3 campaigns, one each for Canadians, Dutch and Germans) and equipment to play around with. The Brits are possibly my personal favourite due to their very distinctive (IMO) set of gear. Very accurate, long range assault rifles, Jackals, Scimitars and much more.
  8. Indeed 3x no, but I trust you will find there are lots of commands that can be used to have your vehicles provide effective cover for your infantry. Try giving covered arcs a go, even on the move. If you play real time, sound cues are usually enough to hint you into pausing and checking out what happened.
  9. Indeed, if you felt the first release was breaking your balls too much or just enjoy additional variety and replayability or simply did not try it out previously...do give this one a go.
  10. What? Seriously, trees getting affected by explosions? This is great news to me!
  11. I think the best scenario for a new player is Al Huqf Engagement. It involves only a platoon of infantry with a single IFV. The downloadable version from BFC is always supported. Some of the retail versions might not be. And lastly, I consider them cheap seeing how much time I spend playing them. Always double check your equipment. Remember to pick up Javelin launchers, AT4s and ammo and such if you expect a heavy fight. Javelins can kill any tank, anywhere. Syrian AT-14s can punch holes in any Western tank. Use smoke liberally, but remember not all types of smoke block IR sensors. I think brown smoke from Strykers blocks thermal. Area fire any locale you expect an enemy to be in. Love your air support. Be aware of set-up times for heavy weapons. Many ATGM vehicles require to be stopped before firing, such as Bradley TOW. The gunner of a remote weapon needs to reload them externally, do this somewhere safe...The list is long
  12. Area fire buildings you suspect are occupied. I use Hunt with the occasional Quick. Use plenty of overwatch before any moving about.
  13. I finally got around to uploading 1.01 to the Repository. I consider it an improvement, much less of a ballbreaker now. Made deployment zones, tweaked artillery behaviour and the AI a bit. Some additional toys to both sides. I'd say it's a lot more fun now. In hindsight, it was a mistake rushing this out before my vacation.
  14. What I find intriguing is that CMBN is the only game in years that I can remember waiting for this eagerly. I find myself regularly checking this forum for those little tidbits of info to ease the wait. "Oh, another WoW expansion, hey cool...Nice, a new Call of Duty, that's neat...CMBN??? OMFG GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!!"
  15. The hatches are left open, but only if the crew actually makes it out.
  16. That's a very good point Krilly. Just before new year on our way to Lapland we happened to drive by the battlefield of the Raate road...Just had to stop by there and think about things... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Raate_Road
  17. Here in Finland WW2 is covered pretty extensively, spanning all the way until secondary school. Nazi atrocities are covered in detail, but also the brutalities the allies inflicted upon civilians, such as Dresden or the nukes. All in all a pretty balanced view on things.
  18. You don't even want to know what kind of history they taught over in the Soviet Union and to some extent still do even today in Russia. Apparently a lot of books make it seem like it was perfectly justified for the Soviets to attack Finland, for example...
  19. Heh, the medal thing would be a nice little touch...We could have the game give out medals to particularly heroic pixeltroops. There could even be achievements like in World of Warcraft, stuff like knocking out an Abrams with an AT-3, or having a single soldier slay 25 enemies.
  20. I don't know if I can fully agree on that, it is a small company and CMSF has been out for, what, 4-5 years? It is a wholly different beast now than when it came out...But yes, I you got a point in that modern warfare was bit of an experiment to fully refine the CMx2 engine for it's return to Normandy, the most profitable theatre. I'm not complaining, I think CMSF has and is great.
  21. Well, as far as I know there is atleast 1.32 patch coming, and I assume if bugs still remain they will be fixed but no new features will be added. BFC is focusing on CMBN and it's modules, with CMSF2 looming somewhere in the distance. I have played CMSF to death, and I'm kind of saddened to see things moving on. I think CMBN will be awesome, but it's still an end of an era.
  22. +1 Looking good, maybe a bit too Hollywood for my personal taste but I will give them a try. Post them on the Repository!
