  1. Alright, inspired by the fancy diagram I took my company of these souped up T-72s to the fields of battle, only to see them brew up summarily before me, defeated by the very HEAT munitions that forced them to wear skirts. One even ended up in a crater the size of an Olympic swimming pool. This loss of life and material makes me sad. Anyone care to explain why this high-tech solution failed to protect my men?
  2. Boy, do I feel dumb now What was the purpose behind that arrangement?
  3. I ran across a battle with T-72M (early) models and all of them had bugged side skirts...all pieces of the skirt were aligned vertically instead of horizontally and looked really stupid...Can anyone else check this with the editor and confirm whether my installation is corrupted somehow or if it's a real bug
  4. I forgot the absolutely beastly command that makes controlling the camera a breeze, hold down Control and click anywhere on the map with the left mouse button and you'll be instantly moved to that very spot. Saves so much time hovering about!
  5. I move the camera by holding down the right mouse button and then the V-button to rotate it 180 degrees with a single keypress.
  6. Thanks for the sound mod recommendation, I just installed it and I must say it sounds terrific! I too was disappointed with the sounds in the original, these modded ones make it feel that much more real...One question though, one sound I ran across that hasn't been touched in the mods is the machine gun on the british APCs, does anyone know the name of this file so I can fix it myself?
  7. Thanks for spending time looking into this. I'll try and provide pictures the next time we do some gaming. Basically, we've played in two sessions, the first battle we played worked perfectly, but all the following ones were bugged. In the second session both games we played worked fine. We managed to pinpoint the issue as apparently having something to do with Alt+Tabbing out of the game at some point... It seems if one of us (or maybe the host?) has Alt+tabbed before starting the game both sides will deploy in the same zone and after the game has started, the one joining the game will be able to issue commands but his units will not move and nothing will happen on his screen. After a ceasefire or surrender he will see the host player's units in their correct deployment zone, whereas the host will be seeing an entirely different set of events unfold... Haven't found any pattern with the parameters, some MEs worked, some didn't, same with attacks...Date and conditions have been the same. I am not 100% of whether it is alt+tab specifically to blame or something else related to it. Thanks again.
  8. I forgot to mention we play TCP/IP exclusively. It's really apparent in CMA, happening nearly 90% of the time, much less so in CMSF, yet still occasionally coming up...It spoils a lot of the fun since we end up discussing our deployment zones before the battle as to make sure we don't start right on top of eachother, not to mention the frustration of having to start over battles all the time...I didn't see an option to save the game in TCP/IP, I could provide screenshots only but I guess there's nothing to see in them that can't be conveyed by words alone...
  9. Me and my friend have been trying to get quick battles to work, but 9 times out of 10 we have started in the same deployment zone. This bug was also present in CMSF when it was released. The first battle we fought worked as it should but each after that has failed miserably due to spawning right next to each other. Sad panda.
  10. Played both demo scenarios and Ottoman Citadel as Muj, victorious but with heavy casualties. I deploy them fairly aggressively since they're itching to go to paradise anyway. As is to be expected, armor and fire support are hard to counter effectively but throwing more men into the fire usually does the trick. The basic tactic of having two detachments, one in the front ready to ambush, fire off a few rockets and bursts and then fall back while the other section behind them quickly pops in to give covering fire works most of the time. Prolonged firefights at long range is just a recipe for disaster. I play real-time with abundant pausing. SEMI-SPOILER: Ottoman Citadel taught me a harsh lesson about eggs and baskets.
  11. Thanks! Those will keep me busy for a while I found this short clip rather mesmerizing:
  12. After a couple of scenarios, I'm really liking it. The CMSF setting never really clicked for me personally, but this gritty Afghan affair is different. The battles feel a lot more even, with BTRs and BMPs being exceptionally fragile. My complaint would be that in tiny or small quick battles, my favourite from early CM days, I've ended up facing nothing but technicals a few times. I guess that happened, but they get chewed up so fast that it's not much of a battle.
  13. Well, it's been an awfully long time... I'm looking for good books, documentaries, movies and websites about the Soviet war in Afghanistan and on a similar tangent, Chechnya. Let those recommendations flow.
