  1. Talking about air, what's the deal with the Tiger? French got them operational but Germans don't? Wikipedia says "At the end of 2003, deliveries began of the 80 UHT version combat support helicopters ordered by Germany to the Federal Office of Defense Technology and Procurement. Due to technical problems, operational capability is not expected to be achieved before the end of 2012 at the latest" but apparently the French got plenty of them, even a few operating in Afghanistan.
  2. I'm still not sure if I follow completely, in CMSF if none of my units see the enemy but have seen it, I am left with a "?" icon at their last known locale. This icon disappears if the enemy appears back in view or my troops find them dead in a ditch. Are you sure you have no units selected thus you get the entire battlefield view, seeing all spotted enemies and icons.
  3. Huh? I get "?" markers all over the place in CMSF from sound contacts and contacts that moved out of LOS. Am I misreading the question or have you turned off contact markers by accident?
  4. The CV in the game has no ERA so RPGs should cut through it easily, only question is does the ammo pop or not? Never been inside one that gets hit so dunno what to say, Damian90, what kind of ammo storage method does the CV utilize?
  5. I'll probably just say the 20mm on the Marder. Insane ROF, chops up infantry and goes through BMPs like it's nothing. Maybe a bit too good, why would anyone want a bigger gun when you get such ROF, huge stockpile of ammunition and it seems to destroy a BMP at any range with the first burst. I played the Teamwork required scenario with 5 Marders knocking out ~20-30 BMPs without taking any return fire that hit. =D
  6. It's a NATO joint exercise, only some supply sergeant screwed up and supplied live ammo.
  7. Report your findings on this new NATO thing! Spent quite some time playing today, some observations...Gebirgsjägers are tough as nails, Leopard 1s suck, Canadian AT is weak, Wiesel loses head on versus a Shilka...So many new fun matchups Anyone find urban combat different with the new area fire? Great stuff. Which army is your favourite?
  8. I just had this rude awakening and lost a quick battle as Blue...Canadian Leopard 1s engaged T72s frontally and...lost...miserably...it was painful watching those 105mm rounds just ricochet from the Syrian tanks...
  9. Do I have to run the installer as admin for it to work?
  10. I find the idea of the vehicle commander dismounting a bit strange, considering the brilliant optics he has at his disposal, not to mention the support role the CV fills after the infantry has dismounted, which would become exponentially harder if the IFVs lack commanders. The doctrine here in Finland called for a strict 3 man crew in the CV and an 8 man Jaeger squad, both having their own leaders. The CV has a "commander's cupola" for the dismount team leader on the rear deck, visible in this picture: http://www.panzerbaer.de/types/pix/nl_ifv_cv9035-004.jpg Is this modeled as a very slight spotting bonus? That position is pretty ergonomic, there's room for the dismount leader to stay in that cupola for a long time in reasonable comfort as opposed to normal prisms you would have. It can be opened fully, if he wants to stick his neck out. Damien90, the CVs external dimensions are smaller indeed but I believe the crew compartment is a lot bigger than the Bradley's. It's pretty roomy and extremely comfortable, the seats are so nice you can easily fall asleep even when traversing rough terrain. We rigged a radio to the intercom and organised a small dance party inside, who knows how many people attended. Certainly it is much, much more better than the BMP-2s we tested at one point. Those things are claustrophobically small and you suffocate on exhaust fumes inside while munching on your own knees.
  11. Looks nice indeed. Let me guess, those picturesque hills aren't there just to look pretty, but they're crawling with elite Mujahideen looking for different ways to make life hard for those poor truck drivers?
  12. For me, the viewer shows duplicate pages but when you click on the right-side page 8 where 9 should be, it does indeed zoom in on the actual page 9 content.
  13. I'm bored and can't get any sleep so I decided to feel like asking trivial questions. I was browsing the manual and noticed that it says the CV9035 seats 7 dismounts, then checked Wikipedia and it says 7 there too, which I assume goes for the baseline 9040 model. The 9030, on the other hand, seats 8 dismounts so where'd that extra seat go? Does the bigger gun require a bigger turret, or does the beefier ammo take more space? Perhaps it's a doctrinal thing? Maybe the Wiki supplies wrong information? Yours truly, the Curious Beast
  14. Yay, just got a tactical victory from the first mission. 1 KIA, 5 wounded and 1 AAV damaged. 61 Syrian KIA, 37 wounded, 125 prisoners and all armour wiped out. I failed all the mission parameters but saved the lives of my men while utterly annihilating the opposition. I like to think that now my men adore me while my superior officers dislike my ham-fisted approach towards mosques and civilians in general. War is hell. Great mission. EDIT: I think I had approx 35-40 minutes left on the clock, how short was the original time limit?
  15. SPOILERZ: Missed this the first time around, playing the first mission as I'm writing this. Brutal urban fighting, long quiet breaks followed by all hell breaking loose for a few seconds. I got to admit that because I was a bit tired with flu and all that I skipped the briefing and called down 155s on the main objective, oops, wonder how that will affect my scoring. Fun.
  16. There you have it, every time I play a quick battle, I have to save it and cease fire to check out the Muj force composition, and unfortunately most of the time it's just technicals...Playing against a 100% technical force is extremely boring, not to mention the AI deploys them in a huge clump somewhere behind a building... So, it'd be nice to see a technical here and there but it would be lovely to encounter Mujahideen infantry in small quick battles.
  17. Speaking of sound, I'm secretly hoping the CV90 will sound close to real. I spent quite some time with those babies and the noise they make is awesome, makes the Bradley sound anemic. Now that is power.
  18. Well, I'm staying up tonight. Got enough beer to last a while.
  19. Heh, I remember the problems CMSF had with certain ATI cards initially (I don't think it was every ATI card that suffered as catastrofically)...Both me and my friend had cards of the same chipset and drivers which IIRC weren't all that common and the game at that point was completely unplayable, crashing constantly, weird graphic glitches and the fact that the mouse clicks never hit where you wanted them to Fortunately, as always, customer support was top notch and it was either Moon or Madmatt who sent new versions of the .exe to try out almost every day. Love you guys. Sniff. EDIT: Forgot to say that since I got back into the game a while ago, got all the modules and latest patches I haven't had a single crash and I'm still using ATI, on a new laptop mind you, that's got to as bad as it gets compatibility-wise.
  20. Only sound mods I'm using so far are AKDs...Highly recommend these though I haven't tried others, 10x better than stock sounds...There is also a small british AKD sound mod that changed the L85 variants to sound great...
