  1. Maybe "some people" grew up listening to how Patton should have kept on going through Germany to Moscow. We watched black and white TV PSAs about Civil Defense shelters. We dived under our school desks for drills or learned stop, drop and cover. We crapped our pants in October 1962. We watched Krushchev slap his shoe on the podium. We watched those movies that told us the evil Commies were coming to get us. Suppose that the Commies decided to take over the rest of Germany and whatever else and told the USA and NATO that you don't have the balls to use nukes? While the West wrings its hands and ponders, the East starts to move. That is what we want to play. That short time span of ground combat before the feces hits the fan.
  2. I tried this out last weekend. I quit when I started losing tanks after losing other assets. Now that I have read through this thread, I will start over. I'm new to SF and didn't get the nuance of how to play this. George's CMBB stuff is tough enough to scare me away from this one but I'll give it a go. Anyone new to all of this should read these pages for tips.
  3. I'll assume b fixed something with a and give it a try. Will let you know. Thanks for the mod.
  4. I have Scipio's Silhouettes 1.30b and Scipio's gy (green yellow) 1.30a and 1.30b You have linked to a Did you mean b or do we need to use a?
  5. I fixed it by getting the CMA demo and renaming copies of files. I have Russian names, ranks and portraits.
  6. I took the latest strings.txt from 1.31 and added the lines from the mod. I no longer get a crash in the editor. I started a few battles from the Red side but I don't see and names, just Team or 1st platoon or whatever with or without Russian names selected in options. When do names show up?
  7. There is a graphic like a postcard in the quick reply box. Copy your image location, click the postcard, paste the location in the popup box.
  8. Glad to find that it's not just me. I don't get Russian names either, just blank where the name would be.
  9. Here is the freeware that I use for CSV files. I use the uniCSVed because what I work with encodes with unicode 8. http://home.hccnet.nl/s.j.francke/software/software.htm
  10. I had some other mods too and removed them all. Since Syrope includes modded editor bits I thought I'd ask here before digging deeper. Thanks.
  11. I downloaded all 3 parts of the Syrope mod and used win-rar to open them at the same time into a folder. I placed that folder into the z folder in data. I viewed a couple of scenarios to see the terrain changes and verify that it worked. (still saw some palm trees in one scen) Later I tried opening the editor and it CTD. Removing the mod stops the crash. I have the Marines module. Since this mod is old, could it be not compatible with Marines?
  12. Do you use Zonealarm? I had to disable the toolbar feature and kill the process in task manager. Recently an update enabled it again.
  13. Great source of info http://www3.plala.or.jp/takihome/
  14. Thanks. I downloaded green stuff today. Hope to use it in the future. Did anyone make any cold war battles or campaigns?
  15. Thanks guys. Add more. It's tough to do a search when you don't know what to search for.
  16. If you just took the plunge since the price drop, this thread may help you. I bought the Marines and CMSF bundle. The download installs as 1.11. You must update, in order, to 1.32. Clicking the link to Marines patches takes you to a page with 1.21a, 1.31 and 1.32. Clicking the link to 1.21a takes you to a page for 1.32. You must then click the link for previous patches to find 1.21 and 1.31. The game comes with the CMSF manual 1.20. There is a Marines manual supplement http://www.battlefront.com/index.php?option=com_flippingbook&book_id=9&Itemid=310 Antivirus and firewalls may not play nice with elicense. If the troubleshooting guide tips don't work, contact the help desk. They know some tricks for specific problems.
  17. I don't think he is talking about exit zones but the CMx1 ability to remove something from the friendly map edge.
  18. Sequoia, open the file in audacity, from the edit dropdown select all, from the Effect dropdown select amplify. In the popup move the slider to the left a couple of whole numbers. You can then preview. If satisfied, from the File dropdown, select Export selection as wav to a new folder.
  19. NCH software has easy to use sound tools. Switch Sound File Converter will change a stereo to a mono plus the other things. Free trial Audacity is freeware and will do it too but more difficult to figure out. Audacity has a loop button too.
