The CM Normandy Campaign/Operations Discussion
Jonny(FGM) replied to Franko's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Seeing as CM: Campaigns was abandoned due to the iffy code base of the CMx1 series, and we are now assured we have a much better code base with CMx2, do you think we'll ever see CM: Campaigns resurrected for CM:2? I hope so -
When I first heard about how PBEM works (with CMx1) i think i actually laughed, now i really appreciate it. It allows me to have multiple games on the go at once and to play them at my convenience. I still play a lot of CMx1 games TCP/IP but with the lack of a WEGO mode for CMSF that makes TCP/IP a no go for me

British light btln equipment quality request
Jonny(FGM) replied to akd's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
oh no i get that people say a 7.62mm will do more damage than a 5.56, and i don't doubt that it will, it's simple physics. But to all those people who say that 5.56mm doesn't have enough stopping power id say ok let me shoot you with it then and see how you feel about the lack of "stopping power" -

I never got this debate, unless you're one of those uber special soldiers, you get hit with a bullet in the flesh you're going down, it might not kill you but it'll make the threat you pose be significantly decreased. -
I have done at least 2 tests with the GMG, one was from the fire support section in a brit mech co, one was off a jackal, both times they fired the PPHE first.

The updated vehicle damage system. Hopefully gun destroyed vehicles will be a lot more useful than in CMx1 in that they should hopefully still be able to fire their MGs even if the TC has bought it. I know this example won't relate to CM:N but in a current CMAK game i had 3 grants gun destroyed, if this was CMx1 then they would still have one working gun.

They don't sound much alike according to the manuals. I think that the old advance command was trying to abstract what we see on a 1:1 basis with the assault command. It would be nice to hear something authoritative on this

It's UK Dam It! Its on the repository or give me your email and i'll send it you.

I carried on playing that mission and a WMIK and a british section did the same thing
-
not sure i agree with you there. They make themselves a smaller target when they hit the dirt, and 9/10 times i find the fire stops when they stop moving Generally i use hunt a lot, with quick for when there are too many contacts around that hunt stops working.

Direct fire airbursts in SF:NATO?
Jonny(FGM) replied to Thorondor's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
In that case then the CG airburst may not be modeled, i don't think there is the capability for the same round to be either ground or airburst in the engine, but who knows they may have added that in. -
I was playing a scenario and spotted some enemy troops who seem to have been trained in abseil

the brits already have airburst rounds for their GMGs in game so i would guess yes -
How to avoid to be spotted too early?
Jonny(FGM) replied to janbak's topic in CMSF Strategy and Tactics Forum
I don't know this scenario, but if blue has vehicles then i have 2 words for you, Thermal Imaging. As to how to get around this someone else will have to tell you, i very rarely play as red -
I wouldn't hold your breath.

The L86 is in COD Modern Warfare 2 with a drum type magazine, is this made up for the game? -
How Abstracted is Air Support in CMx2?
Jonny(FGM) replied to Barkhorn1x's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I saw some discussion quite a while back that said by the time of the normandy time period the US did have tac air controllers. I'd like to have some rudimentary control over the aircraft but also just let them do their thing. If AA fire is left out then i shall be majorly dissapointed as i think it could lead to some balancing issues. -

I could be wrong, but isn't this one? -
Actually I think the previous bout of oil exploration was inconclusive

British light btln equipment quality request
Jonny(FGM) replied to akd's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Well not really, the marines and SBCT platoons both get 2 MGs per plt, that's almost one per section. Personally I don't really mind that much as i've never really found myself lacking FP with the brits, but a scenario designer has to give the brits all those really fragile Jackals/Land Rovers to make up the fire support. -
Couple of questions
Jonny(FGM) replied to grunt_GI's topic in Combat Mission: Shock Force Tech Support
Yes you can -

Jonny(FGM) replied to akd's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
It's been common practice since Goose Green i think. What i would like to see is 2 different infantry formations for the brits, one with th GPMG at section level and one without. -
sivodsi, sort the entries in the repository by submit date and it should be at the top : )
