  1. Yeah, so sounds like there is no non-gamey solution to it. If only the LAVs were amphibious (as they are in real life). I'd really like to hear why the scenario designer thought this was a good idea.
  2. What do you do in a situation in which you know an IED is in a spot? The 2nd or 3rd canadian mission has such a scenario. There is obviously a IED in the middle of a bridge, and you have to cross it. You get pioneers, but they can't mark mines (does marking mines even work anymore? does it find IEDs even if it did?). I tried shooting it with my leos, but to no avail. Finally I sent a sacrificial g-wagon to trigger the bomb, extremely unrealistic and gamey. But I couldn't think of any other sure way. Smoking could have concealed LOS to the triggerman, but that's just as gamey. Hell if it was realistic i'd just cross the marsh with my LAVs.
  3. This is horrible news. I was really looking forward to the campaign.
  4. I'm still not convinced that riding on tanks is an appropriate feature in an AO of 2 to 3 KMs. Operational movement =! tactical maneuvering. I.e. in real life you would be in a road column or traveling overwatch until you reached a FUP at which point the infantry would dismount and attack on foot. The FUP is what happens at the beginning of every CM mission. In CMSF for instance, there is rarely a reason to keep your mech infantry mounted for long.
  5. 1st mission of the CMSF campaign - very small AO, clear line of sight to enemy, overwhelming firepower and epic fire fight.
  6. To add to what Steve said, and i'm surprised he didn't say this, the ShockForce games don't represent movement, they represent tactical maneuvering in an area of operations. I.e. the advantage of mechanized infantry is not that they ride into combat in an APC, but that they can transport dismounted infantry into a position to attack quickly, and then provide fire support and supply. Point is, the "riding on tanks" part of CM games would happen before the mission started, the AOs are too small to represent operational movement. Maybe if they were 10 or 20 km rather than 3 (max).
  7. The Luftwaffe had local air superiority until the failed Ardennes counter-offensive, when the air corps was decimated in Pyrrhic attacks. The Luftwaffe was unable to recoup the losses, while the allies losses, though high, were easily recouped.
  8. Oh. Whats the big hullabaloo about then? Yes, I'm bringing back 18th century vocab.
  9. I'm not complaining I just don't understand how the gameplay would work. You issue order, then press end turn - and then wait, then you just see the outcome of all of your orders or something, without seeing them move/fire etc?
  10. So how would TCP/IP WeGo without playback even work? You press end turn... then your view teleports to a minute later with half of your vehicles dead and you have no idea what happened? Lol Seems quite strange.
  11. The Aufklarungs are useful in the campaign because they arrive 15-20 minutes before the main body and are good for establishing OP/LPs to interdict enemy with air and fire support. They have good forward observers. They'd be pretty useless in a situation where your main body is already there.
  12. I'd be willing to play more PBEM if it wasn't so damn tedious to constantly move saved games to and from the CMSF folders. It's more of a chore than a game. This is why i prefer RT play.
  13. Water in a CM game? BLASPHEMY. I want my indistinct slight green patches back.
  14. The other thread was becoming bloated, and I finally finished recording the entire campaign so wanted to showcase it as a whole. Admins: Feel free to delete the other thread. 15. Mission 12: re: Dave My videos are typically 150+ gigs before I encode them
  16. I own and have played through the british and marine modules - just never recorded them. I may not record any more videos for some time, mainly because its more of a job than its worth. I know some people really enjoy these videos but the amount of time it takes to get them up is prohibitive. Maybe someone else can do the canadian/british/dutch campaigns. Most annoying factors for me right now: 1. Lack of hard-drive space 2. Lack of a SSD 3. Having to reupload every video at least twice to get them on YouTube due to the horrible Advanced Uploader (the only thing that can upload big files) randomly stalling indefinitely during the upload proccess.
  17. Weasels are INCREDIBLY bad at spotting, they may in fact not be able to spot anything. I have only a few times seen a weasel spot something on its own, 99% of the time I have to use indirect fire.
  18. Yes, patience. I decided to re-record it and pulled out a minor victory. That is what I am going to upload. For the defeat one, I didn't interdict the special forces running into the AO properly (only partially), so they were able to dig in. Then inevitably the RPG-29 deathrays came and killed a few sections. Not much you can do about that. On the replay I tried to minimize casualties by splitting teams, but still took heavy casualties from RPGs. I wish those Fuchs were around so I could loot their panzerfausts
  19. Yeah I thought that was an outdated chart because I failed the "Valhalla" (Walhalla) mission and still beat the campaign. Also I didn't play a mission called audacity before the current mission.
  20. I just played Bruche nacht Wahalla and got a minor defeat, which lead to a major victory in the campaign. Im curious as to if this was actually the last mission. Would I have seen another if I won this mission? The flowchart is useless, it doesn't even include the mission. It could be "Valhalla" but it shows that you fail the campaign if you lose that mission, soooo? Was anyone able to win this mission easily? I think it would be pretty difficult to avoid the casualties associated with this mission.
  21. In my experience the M707 is worthless and is just a liability that should be put into defilade so it doesn't lower your score when it inevitably gets killed by a dshkm or ak-47.
  22. Have had a new video to upload for a week, have been trying to upload every night and it always fails at a different %. YouTube is messed up right now. Hence the delay.
  23. jnt: In my experience people like to watch videos with audio narration, even if it isn't a complete narration that covers all of the text in your tutorials. I tend to apply my own tactical understanding to my videos, and people react well to it. One thing that is missing from my videos, is a CLOSE examination of the anatomy of an operation. I think if you were to record video and narrate what you are doing, I think they would be hugely successful. My 2 cents.
