  1. I have this same problem, please help. What is the proper install order for gamersgate CMSF + battlefront bundle? Edit: 3 hours of trial and error later, it appears to be: gamers gate installer gamers gate 1.10 patch bundles installer 1.21 all inclusive patch
  2. As an aside, what are the billets in the syrian platoon hq? is the third man a radioman? Fourth a medic? What else?
  3. Does anyone know how the syrian orbat differs from 1973? Specifically, BTR, armor and special forces companies/platoons. Also, does anyone know the TO&E for the Israeli forces? Any and all help would be invaluable lads, for google has failed me. I trust in this forum's ability to somehow produce answers to misc historical military information. edit: So after some searching I was able to find: http://www.armchairbrigade.org/module?game=HMWGame&name=ArabIsraeliWarsModule.ArabIsrael1973Module.SyIl1973Module It has what seems to be accurate orbats for both sides, but not the specific TO&E - i.e. platoon personnel hierarchy and equipment assignments. I think i'm going to use the specifics from CMSF with the greater equipment orbats at that link if no one has any input.
  4. What effect does the Shilka have for air defense? I could understand it not being to do much to laser guided whoop ass, but it would at least be a major threat to helicopters and CAS (a-10).
  5. Yes, IFVs make a good base of fire due to their spotting and suppressive fire abilities - if you are attacking an enemy position suppress it with HMG, AGS or canon fire while the infantry is given an assault (if the enemy is partially suppressed) or movement order (if they are completely suppressed) to close and destroy it. If theres a line of enemy behind the main line, occupy the ground where the first line was, and then bound the rest of your force forward. Then assault forward again. This is called "bounding overwatch" Also consider preparatory strikes with arty and/or aircraft.
  6. i guess I sort of "wrote myself into a corner" then lol
  7. The usefulness of IFVs are in the name: "infantry fighting vehicle." Essentially IFVs are supposed to be used as mobile gun platforms, transport and resupply for infantry. They are not armor, and should not be used as such. Rushing your IFVs in an attack is a great way to lose expensive vehicles and entire infantry sections. one real world military concept you should learn to grasp is maneuver by fire: it is the essential foundation of all modern military tactics. The idea is to have one group called a base of fire which provides "overwatch" while another group, the maneuver element bounds towards, engages and eventually destroys the enemy. The overwatch element provides suppressive fire on the enemy, engages any enemy forces which attempt to interdict the maneuver element, spot for the employment of air and artillery assets and otherwise ensures the maneuvering element survives. You can use your IFVs to act as a base of fire in overwatch positions, preferably in "hull down" concealment (in which the hull, the most vulnerable part of the vehicle is outside the line of sight of potential enemy positions), as infantry assault. HQ elements can remain with the IFVs and call in fire missions, and a reserve can retrieve javelins from the vehicles to address armored threats (or fortified enemy sniper/HMG teams in buildings) if they appear.
  8. So the point of "Peng" threads is to masturbate over proper grammar? Seems quite strange and out of place on this forum. Are you all 1st year English students or something?
  9. Does anyone know what sort of operations the rangers were partaking in after suppression of enemy air defenses and capturing of air fields during Operation Enduring Freedom? After immediately landing on the ground, destroying air defenses and assembling their forces in place, what did they do next? Did they become advisors and help northern alliance/anti-taliban forces or did they serve some other purpose? I am trying to come up with missions ideas and couldnt' find much information. If they became advisors, what would be the TO&E for that?
  10. wtf is peng challenge - this is something that has confused me since i started posting here on the forums. It just seems like every post is gibberish in regard to this Peng fellow.
  11. Why would the netcode be designed to send saved games back and forth? Makes absolutely no sense. There are games that exist that have turn based multiplayer.. you're aware of that right? They don't use magic. Hell, some of the earliest MP games back to the DOS games were like this. Steel Panthers immediately comes to mind, and has the most applicability in this circumstance, and you could play that on a 14k modem. As far as if its possible to just "add in a couple lines of code" - no. It would require a serious effort.
  12. You can manually order buddy aid by telling a unit to move on top of a casualty. After awhile, they will perform buddy aid.
  13. Wait, the NATO campaign is completely persistent? When was this released/mentioned/confirmed?
  14. Maybe ask Steve for some support, this meta campaign could do some good press for their company. I don't see the downside of them giving you some early access to things to help get the campaign off the ground earlier.
  15. Just wanted to add to the British module/CMSF lovefest. I never got a chance to play the 1.0 versions of these games, so my opinions of them are not slighted by buggy or inadequate initial releases. When I bought the modules and patched to 1.21 I played a truly amazing strategy game -arguably the best ever made. I was really worried about wasting my money with the expansion modules, how much of a difference could adding marine units make, I thought. Well I was dead wrong, the quality of the missions reached an apex in the expansion modules, as CMSF was a very experimental and avantgarde game, the mission makers didn't really know what they were doing (i dont mean that in a negative way, i just mean that they had no point of reference). Its obvious that they mastered their art with the expansion modules - the missions are insanely better, everything ranging from terrain, to variety, consistency, to challenge, to briefing. The expansion modules are worth every penny, they add so much to the game and are not just a "unit pack" as I originally thought. c And I love the maneuver warfare experience of the British module - Crossroads anyone?
  16. Wow.. so after signing up i'm amazed at how good this looks. I urge everyone to sign up. And i'm really surprised BF hasn't officially endorsed what SDP is doing - its amazing work. And looks like an extremely fun way to play the game. Milsimgasm. RE: Elvis The campaign isn't starting until NATO is released - the orbat includes all the NATO forces.
  17. Javelin has a MINIMUM range of 75 meters and a max range of 2700 meters. It has a 95%+ accuracy rate. It will one shot kill all armored vehicles, although multiple shots may be required for NATO MBTs. It also costs $80,000 per missile and weighs quite a bit. The M136 is effective at up to 100 meters and minimally effective at up to 300 meters. It can defeat up to BMPs, although it may also effect T-62s to the side and rear and T-72s on the top of the turret or rear in quantity. The m136 sucks, but its cheap, thats why they are common.
  18. Negative as per wikipedia. 11 would INCLUDE crew. 9 pax. Are they are other personnel magically missing from CMSF for a stryker platoon? I am going to add medics on my mission, any others? Plt sgt maybe? or is that 1 section leader?
  19. The stryker has a 9 passenger capacity. How then does the command and weapons fit in? 7 in weapons (sl, gunner, a gunner, ftl, gunner, a gunner, ftl) 3 in command (CO, FAC, rto) Also, why doesn't CMSF model there being a medic in the C2 element? Why do I care... because i'm making ARMA 2 missions and using CMSF as my "reference manual" for realism. A problem I am having is that 2 pax cannot fit in the command stryker, the FAC and medic (assuming +1 to C2)
  20. I know of those mods but sorta like the default equivalents. I think the colored vehicles and weapons look gaudy, and the icon replacements break immersion and say "look, i'm a video game!" One mod I could never play without is Modified NATO Floating Icons.
  21. Played the first two missions so far, about to start the third... extremely well done. The missions themselves are perfect but I would recommend taking the briefings a little bit more seriously - they are not particularly useful or realistic, at least compared to the module briefings.
