  1. Check out Moon's ..."Housekeeping! Updated CM:BN Installer packages!" "Time for some spring... err... summer cleaning! We've just updated a number of the existing Combat Mission: Battle for Normandy installer packages. With the 3.0 Engine Upgrade for CMBN and CMFI around the corner, it's time to clean up some legacy releases." Let the Good Times Roll
  2. Wow! I got very quiet and Saw 4 mature hoofed grazing, browsing animals, minus branched bony antlers walk across my pasture while I was on the tractor mid afternoon! They knew they were safe and simply took their time grabbing berries before they trotted back in the woods. Those were smart and live animals I also hoe i hope Ukrainian conflict / tragedy will not affect CMBS release. Steve was on top of what ifs... posting what he did at the very start of this thread.
  3. "CMBS and the eventual CMSF2 will operate from the same base engine as CMBN, CMFI, CMRT and whatever other families we see." "There won't be any "CMSF2" (AKA the big upgrade to bring CMSF to the current engine) updates for a long while. We aren't even actively working on it yet. It's planned for after we finish some other projects with a higher priority, such as Black Sea." BF was working on optimizations for the patches before v3.0 upgrades would be offered. "Patch / upgrades for WWII are currently in testing." Won't be too much longer now... hunting wabbits and such
  4. Martin Dempsey at the Aspen Security Conference recently said someone was working on a scenario ... outside the game;) Don't have the game files with me in country now but will check when I get back. I think there are some older CMSF user mad scenarios that might come close.
  5. Like when the livestock will come to Life in game
  6. "No Spetsnaz in base game." Thanks ChrisND. Contemporary adherents are now speculating what CMBS modules are in the pipeline plan.
  7. Opened it up with your tagged mods. Have not fired it up but looking at the battlefield. "Trying to make it evoke a sense of doomed apathy." You got it Looks like like a serious coflicy has taken place in Vitebsk and it is not over yet. Happy to hear you dialed down the troop density as playing this in Real Time should be a handful of fun for me. Thanks kohlenklau.
  8. Thanks. I heard GRU / Spetsnaz are in Ukraine .....mentioned a few times in the media. The quality of their specific unit reports are suspect but it sounds as if locals ID'd the units to one reporter. Would be nice if media snatched some unit patch photos but then I suspect they may have been detained after all their equipment was confiscated. I am sure ChrisND will have some more information in his videos.
  9. Are Spetsnaz units in the Russian Armed Forces in CMBS?
  10. "Russian mechanized battalion maneuvers through unfavorable terrain..." and meets ambuscade Thanks.
  11. Just tried CMx2 ScAnCaDe v1.5 yesterday on my Hackintosh and it works great! Noticed Safari would not sort the output by clicking on the green-coloured column heads but Firefox did. Really nice tool to see what is available to play. Great for exploring campaigns. What is "The Blitz Size Modifier"? Thank you Mad Mike!
  12. BF was working on optimizations for the patches before v3.0 upgrades would be offered. Recently ChrisND said, "Patch / upgrades for WWII are currently in testing." So should be soonish. Apple should also offer OSX 10.10 this fall. Lest hope they get their OpenGL fault fixed with that new OS.
  13. I think GAJ dropped the CMSF links because most moved along to CMFI, CMBN, CMRT. I doubt he trashed them. Remains to be seen if ChrisND can make CMSF mods usable in the CMSF 3.0 engine upgrade. This will be a while out as CMBS will be on the market before CMSF work will start I suspect.
  14. CM:SF is a great 7 year old game. Battlefront's game vision of a Western invasion of Syria a solid base for a war game. Folks still play the game because it is fun... 7 years later. Real Life recently morphed into a caliphate Islamic state + with no Western actors wanting anything to do with Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi 's posse. Have the Mac Bundle but have not purchased all the CMSF modules for PC. I will if Apple's 10.10 is a bust on the OpenGL drivers.
  15. “The four Intel SATA ports wouldn't recognize the SSD.” Did you check for latest Asus Z97 Pro Intel SATA drivers from Asus support? GPU Drivers are up to date? Another shot in the dark is check BIOS to assure disk drive numbers correspond to the SATA channel numbers. Samsung 840 & 840 Evo are considered very good SSDs. If everything else is loading fast it should not not be a bad SSD. Sorry I can’t help more as I am a novice hackintosh guy Good Luck.
  16. "...Could even change "pop smoke" to a grenade action with option for standard or smoke (and Demo charge!)" That would be handy option for sure.
  17. CMSF was the 1st modern and may be a while before "big upgrade to bring CMSF to the current engine" buff and polish happens. 7 years later CMSF is still a fun.
  18. "There will be only one..... no not Highlander..." "CMBS and the eventual CMSF2 will operate from the same base engine as CMBN, CMFI, CMRT and whatever other families we see." Non betas know "There won't be any "CMSF2" (AKA the big upgrade to bring CMSF to the current engine) updates for a long while. We aren't even actively working on it yet. It's planned for after we finish some other projects with a higher priority, such as Black Sea." BF was working on optimizations for the patches before v3.0 upgrades would be offered. "Patch / upgrades for WWII are currently in testing." Won't be too much longer
  19. As for a GPU purchase, I think Ken is correct, "Now, consensus seems to think 2 Gb is minimum, 3 Gb is better, and 4 Gb cards are going to be good for a couple years." When you look at the GPU memory it will take to fully use a 4K monitor I might be best to go with a 4GB GPU upgrade and wait for the 4K equipment to decrease in cost. In theroy with a 4K monitor you can turn off or reduce the amount of antialiasing applied and still have a good looking image. If you want a highest-quality detail settings and 4K you need lots of GPU power. For 3840*2160 support per NVIDIA, "All GeForce GTX 600 and 700 series GPUs can support 4K resolutions through DisplayPort..... In order to power games at this resolution with settings turned up NVIDIA recommends GTX 780 SLI or better." You’ll need a DisplayPort 1.2 cable. My EVGA GTX 760 4GB GPU should be able to support a single 4K monitor output over DisplayPort 1.2 cable. I doubt I could set graphics in CM to best as I do now in 2560 x 1440 and maintain the fluid movement around the map I currently have. I bet CM would still look really fine in 4K even at moderate settings on 4GB -GPU.
  20. CMSF release date July 26, 2007. Copper prosperity, good luck, and good fortune. Wool comfort, durability, security, and warmth. or maybe.... A 7th Anniversary Gemstone: Onyx or yellow sapphire.
  21. I agree with Ken. "This game shines with hi res mods. " Erwin "....Has the tech changed to so that one actually sees a difference with 4GB+ VRam?" I noticed the ease of maximum graphics settings improved to become fluid movement in any CM 3D environment straight away on an older 2009 MacPro. On the Hackintosh 4GB GPU with faster CPU, faster memory, etc. makes CMRT Rock! "A 4K panel is around 4 times the resolution of 1080p Blu-ray content. " Your 2GB card should fine for your current system. I would not bother upgrading until you need to.. when 4K monitor & GPU prices drop. Could be 3-4 years.
  22. Good luck Hpt. Lisse with the tweaks and feeding the ankle-biters :-) I would think MOBO and faster RAM are most likely not a big issue. Look forward to your results.
  23. My opinion.... I don't think a multi-core (quad) CPU would hurt your CM performance. The cost difference relative to the # hours daily serious CM sportsman use their CPU would be minimal. A multi-core (quad) CPU is a wise prchase. See Below ------- We are certainly working on this. As you guys say, by now it's pretty safe to cut off support for people without at least 2 cores. So we are exploring ways to allow limited use of other cores when it offers a big payback in performance. For example, we have identified a specific part of game loading that typically maxes out a single core. By rewriting just that portion of the code we can speed up the loading process significantly and quite "safely". Extending multicore support to runtime game elements is a lot less "safe". It has to be done carefully and tested like crazy. But there are definitely things we have in our crosshairs. A couple of things having access to other cores could make a big difference. One thing we will not do is rewrite the entire game engine to be compliant with multicores. This is absolutely not viable for us. It's a massive code base and we'd basically have to stop all work on everything for a very long period of time. And for the most part it won't do much to speed up the game more than the selective approach we're exploring. If any of you guys lived through the transition of the old Motorola based Mac processors to RISC PowerPC the above will sound familiar to you. For several years the MacOS, and most of the programs that ran on it, were selectively optimized for the newer architecture. Things got progressively faster without a huge gap of time when there was no progress at all. In general our approach to CM improvements is like this. Steve ------
  24. A major reason I built my EVO Hackintosh Ian I have not ruled out buying CMPC games as well. Buying into the "Evil OS" could feed my CM "Recreational" Addiction when the ZED Wars arrive:) Currently having a blast playing CMRT Mac. ChrisND posted patches and upgrades are in testing so... I can wait... sort of.
