  1. The scenario is in the works after I finish some sprucing up with the minor detail; flavor objects, making sure the buildings are the matching and that doors are where they should be, random crops in the field so that they aren't ALL fallow, etc. It will involve a collection of Paratroopers of the 501st(40 altogether) versus 60-70 of the German 1058th Regt., 91st Luftlande Div. It was actually an old ASL scenario The Pouppeville Exit, kind of surprised no one has touched it yet. The actual battle involved 3 hours of house to house fighting, followed by a surrender at noon. By then the 2/8 from the 4th Infantry Division (your first set of units from The Road to Montebourg campaign) showed up to clear out any stragglers. Here's a link to the source: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/USA-A-Utah/USA-A-Utah-2.html And a link to a map showing the movements of the action: http://www.ibiblio.org/hyperwar/USA/USA-A-Utah/maps/USA-A-Utah-4.jpg And I actually have put in the elevation already, it's just hard to tell. The highest point on the map is only 21 meters, and it pretty much just slides into the flood plain right behind Utah Beach. When I'm done with the fiddly bits I'll post some lower, close-in pics of the final map which give a better idea of the lay of the land.
  2. Finally thought I would try my hand at map-making and since everyone and their mother did La Fiere, I finally decided to do Pouppeville, sitting astride Exit 1 on Utah Beach. I haven't finished the map proper, let alone begun to work on the scenario, units, AI plans, etc., but I figured I would show off what I have done for input, feedback, and encouragement. Here is the Town viewed from the south(ignore the compass, I realized too late that you can't change it's direction). Looking to the east towards the flooded causeway. And a wide angle getting most of the map, viewing from the beachhead. This is actually part of a larger 2KM by 1KM map of the area that includes two large farms in the surrounding area, but since they aren't really part of the historical action, I'll probably hold off on those until after the scenario is done. Also, if anyone knows where I could get some close in shots of the town from ground level, period or otherwise, let me know. This is mostly Google Earth, GeoPortail 1947 aerial photos, and one period shot of a few buildings I found. Also, any more info on the action there involving Col. Ewell and the men of the 501st and the German 1058th Rgt. would be nice as well.
  3. For the russian stuff I can't really expound too much since I learned all this stuff from CMBB, which was a WHILE ago. But one thing I do remember were special assault platoons universally equipped with ppsh-41 sub-machine guns. And with 1:1 modelling of the infantry, I cannot wait to play with them. Considering the effect MP-40s have in CMBN now, those guys are going to be RUTHLESS. Edit: Make that SMG COMPANIES. I could use those in the Hedgerows....
  4. Hey, Nukes and Daisy Cutters weren't in CMSF. Besides, buying 10 Nebelweurfer launchers gets much the same effect, if you're looking to just watch everything on the map die. I just miss how useful a 40mm Stryker vehicle was. After playing with one of those things, you realize how much of a joke armored infantry halftracks are. But I'm sure once we get more 20mm cannons (Or an AA M-16) I'll get much the same feeling.
  5. I love playing CM in WWII, and I honestly have more fun with it then with Shock Force at this point. But sometimes, in certain scenarios, I really miss my 40mm Grenade launchers. It's what I used to call my "Infantry Eraser". Just point and it goes away. I love that thing. Anybody else miss any modern equipment in the Hedgerows?
  6. Just working through your campaign again with 2.0 installed and enjoying it's frustration. I was wondering about your sources for the 8th Regiment battles? My grandfather served in the 8th and would love to get my hands on more information. Thanks in advance for a reply, and thanks for the campaign!
  7. Well, considering the histories of D-Day that I read, even the ones with British authors all concurred he was a bit of a dick.
  8. Also, the Greyhound uses canister with it's 37mm cannon as well.
  9. To be fair, any book on WWII read by more then four people is an unreliable source.
  10. From the way people talk about the frame rates for the new Il-2 game, it might as well be turn-based.
  11. Was the Panzergrenadier in the same spot as his fallen Squadmembers? If so , thats why hes showing that much ammo. It's basically showing the ammo he has access to in his vicinity. I think though that if he moves fast enough from the area that number should go down.
  12. Seppo? Never heard of that one....sounds unflattering. As for my preference Yank (in its Brit truncated form) is fine. Makes me think of British war movies, "We must confound Jerry at every turn" and all that. And Americans never use the term Yank, its always Yankee, or Damn Yankee. And yes, this is all horribly off-topic, but considuring the original topic was a dead horse for 4 years now I dont mind terribly.
  13. Well, being from where I am( American South, northern Florida to be specific) that specific turn of phrase doesn't get used very often, and to be honest being called a Yankee can be a shooting offense around these parts. But since you are posting out of Australia, i'll take it as a compliment.
  14. Yeah, if you plan on frequenting this board regularly, watching Kelly's Heroes will help you understand half the things some people say. I hadn't seen the movie until i started reading these forums in 2000. Im glad i've seen it now. And yes, Mulligan is unreliable. "To pull this thing off you're going to need Mulligan to be On Time and On Target, and he hasn't been either since we got off of Omaha Beach!"
  15. True, but then again with LOF being tied to the 3d model, that might mean the difference of whether or not the foliage intercepts incoming rounds or not. I dont really think it really hinders realism one way or the other, and for all I know I could be wrong in this instance. But this game has a tendency to skew towards the over-meticulous when it comes to LOS-LOF calculations.
  16. Not really. Nor have I yet come up with a reason why someone who walks up to someone working on a project for 3 to 4 years, looks at it, says, "Why doesn't it have this? Without that, the whole damn thing is pointless!", and wonders why hes receiving a less then amicable response. Personally in same situations my response would come in two words, one of them being "Off". For my two sheckles tcpip WEGO is something i highly desire, and is something i think will make it easier for me to get other people i know to play the game. But i havent stopped playing CMSF for the lack of it, and i damn sure aint going to hold off from CMBN for lacking it now.
  17. Recently?!? That movie has been referenced on a semi-religious basis for going on 10 years now. Woof-Woof!
  18. Yeah, the target button is the way to go. Also, if you are in a situation where you want to mkve a unit but arent sure if it has LOS, just put in a move order to the location, click the white ball at the end of the move line so that it becomes larger and brighter. Then hit the target button. The target line will still be anchored to the unit, but the info it gives you is from your new movement location. Admittedly, this is a bit cumbersome for RT players, but I find it quite useful in WEGO.
  19. The hunt order in CMSF is a Move To Contact order, where you move at "move" speed until an enemy is sited. "Slow" is the vehucle moving without stopping at a speed slow enough for infantry to keep up with the Quick command. Incidentally, I find Slow to be a uniform speed even between different vehicles, so its a great option for moving convoys of differing vehicles.
  20. Well, the problem with scaling is that the 3d model is used to calculate hit angle, penetration, damage from follow through of the round, etc. So scaling would literally make the tanks twice as large as in real life, and being driven by Wehrmacht giants. Granted, im not an expert programmer or anything, but from Steves drescriptions im pretty sure thats the main reason why they cant scale the units.
  21. Now I have heard Steve say multiple times that all modules would be stand alone products, i.e. you wouldn't need module 1 to play module 2, just the base game and module 2. To further clarify, let's take CMSF. You don't need the Marines module to play any part of the British module. Same goes for the NATO module. So that there was none of that old ASL "module purchasing tree" where you had to buy the modules in a certain order otherwise you couldn't use this sub-sect of rules to run 3 out of the 20 scenarios, and all that headache. So my point is, how do you make a Market-Garden module without the Brits/SS module? would you just have the TO&E for the Brits/SS if you setup a game for September only? Would the campaign literally only use Brit tanks added for this module?
  22. A Gateway Pentium 3 that I think was 1ghz speed, not sure. I do remember I did have the last of the 3DFX cards ever made in it though. And as I recall the game was never a chore to run(except Rune scenarios).
  23. This is part of the reason I'm almost happy China is going to surpass us economically. That way the naysayers will actually have a brutal, dogmatic government to lay their qualms upon instead of us being the "go-to Guys". Also, are you an American living in Canada? Or you just a very understanding Canadian?
