Anybody planning on doing any scenarios/mini-campaigns for Normandy involving the actions around Le Manoir of La Fiere? I own a copy of "No Better Spot to Die" and was thinking about trying my hand at it, but if someone with MUCH more experience with the editor was going to take a crack at it I wouldn't complain. And if CMN hasn't reached a point where you can work on the scenarios/campaigns.....take it as a suggestion?

Shooting moving targets - automatic vs semi
silverstars replied to a topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I don't how much of a bad idea upgrading the M4s to full-automatic is. As Steve said there is a lot of evidence that it leads to wasting ammo. But then again most of that evidence was coming out of a war involving draftees and marked decrease in professionalism in the Army from 1969 lasting all the way into the early 80's. Nowadays, our 11-Bravos are some of the most highly trained and disciplined in the world. We are a professional army in every sense of the word. And while giving the Full-auto M4s to the rear echelon types might be a bit much, I think giving our front-line troops an option which every lowly AK-toting insurgent has available isn't THAT much of a crime. -

hit backspace. it removes movement orders one node at a time. -
Cute. I only bring this up since I am a bit tired of watching enemies run amongst my troops and watch them awkwardly look around for 5-10 seconds as they stand 2 meters away from each other before someone decides to start shooting.

Did this ever make it into CMN? Or is a hand to hand combat mechanic even on the table in the future?

Not to mention collect ammo and Squad necessary weapons (a Javelin CLU or SAW).

Can't be any worse then a DnD forum where you have people who have played it since the 70's up to the new 4th edition folks. Everyone has their own favorite version, and all other beliefs are declared heretics to the true faith.

CM:N Safe to say 2011?
silverstars replied to Tactical Wargamer's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
Oh I agree completely. For example, to call Star Fleet battles anything other then a wargame is ridiculous. You could feasibly call it a strategy game, but no one other then a wargamer would look at that rulebook and go, "ooh! I've gotta play this!!" As an aside, I have always thought that the ability to fully know and understand the entire ruleset of Star Fleet Battles and ASL(with all attending modules) should get you an honorary paralegal degree. Mostly my main point is that with wargaming, seeing how everything plays it is as entertaining or more so the whoever won or lost. -
Dissapointed with the research that went into this

Don't forget the "Raiding the cellar of Calvados" animation, along with the "Stop to paint a Kilroy on a farmhouse wall" animation..... Although to be honest, I will happily forgo any and all pistol firing animations for a "Close Combat" animation and mechanic. -

Seeing the campaigns branching out reminds me of how much I would like to see more branching in campaigns, specifically if we can ever get persistant map damage going again. To clarify instead of just Win=go forward and Lose=step back, A Draw=same map with possible reinforcements option would be available. I think even without persistant map damage, the feature would be a real boon to a CMN campaign. -
CM:N Safe to say 2011?
silverstars replied to Tactical Wargamer's topic in Combat Mission Shock Force 1
I think that may be the key difference between a wargamer from a regular gamer. For a wargamer, the primary drive of playing is seeing a historical situation laid out, and then seeing what happens when these tactics are tried, or if this unit was substituted with that unit. Winning can be important, don't get me wrong, but it is never the only thing. Whenever I have played a wargame with another person, I have never really cared who won, so much as enjoy the action unfold. I think its why I enjoy we-go so much. Either way, it's not an attitude you see very often in other game genres. -
More Pie in the sky questions about CM2:Normandy

My thread will NEVER DIE!!!!!AHAHAHAHAAAHA!!!! -
As a side note for the Blackhawk Down Reference: As I recall, The RPGs used by Aidid's forces had modified warheads so that they would airburst. Which is why they managed to hit hte Blackhawks at all. I think that the game assumes all RPGs as fresh out the box with equally high quality warheads, and not differentiating between the Syrian Army squad level RPGs and those used by the insurgent/militia RPGs. I could be wrong though.

Let's face it. this was obviously done so modders had another paint job to work on. And with that thought, lets start a letter writing campaign to the DOD for them to adopt a German WWII ambush pattern for all AFVs. -
When US Troops enter a Norman building, will there be a random "Calvados Encounter", inebriating a percentage of the squad to the point of making them "wounded" or "incapacitated"?

mmmmm.......wood camo. It feels like forever to see a real camouflage paint job on a vehicle.

Don't forget a lot of books on WWII reference to B.H. Liddell-Hart's works, and a large chunk of his post WWII work came from interviewing German Generals just after the War. As a side comment, if there was ever a litmus test for being a WWII Grog, it's knowing who Liddell-Hart is.
