  1. I originally thought that there was command delay in WEGO for CMSF, I just figured, since I play blue almost exclusively with their whizz-bang toys, the comm systems REALLY worked well. But I think they are a natural with a WWII setting. It is harder to imagine no delays between orders when comm systems are at best a telephone line or bulky walkie talkie, at worst the fastest corporal that happens to be at hand. so yeah, gimme Command Delays. let them factor in distance from commander, quality of communication type, commander/squad quality, all that good stuff. I still think the Take Command Civil War games had the best built in command delay system of any game i've seen, and I didn't find it obtrusive, i found it immersive more then anything else.
  2. I like the 2nd idea more then the first, although the idea of a random time delay seems a bit odd at first glance. I am assuming it's modelling (to use your sherman example) the tank commander hesitating between returning fire immediately or waiting to see if he can finally see the target to shoot at? Could there also include a further drop in accuracy from regular in-LOS/LOF area fire to out-of-LOS/LOF area fire, i.e. scatter the shots even further?
  3. As a tangent to the windows/doors building entry discussion, is it possible to have slab-sided buildings with no doors or windows? This may be possible already; I just can't seem to recall any buildings where there are not windows everywhere. The reason I bring this up is that in Normandy you have so many stone townhouses that share walls with each other that have no doorways between them, or sides with nothing but stone. And even if they have windows they are so small and randomly placed they would hardly be useful as an entry point. Frankly , I think modelling true norman homes may be more of a pain then getting bridges up and working.
  4. So if I read things right, Foxholes will be 3d ring of dirt that sits on top of the terrain mesh( just like old miniature wargame fortifications or shell-craters) but with some fudged numbers to improve the terrain protection (otherwise you would have to make the foxhole ring look more like a massive hollowed-out ant hill to work right protection-wise). I think that would be acceptable on both the appearance and FOW issues. Heh, it would be even cooler if vehicle movement could destroy( in game terms become "rubble" ) the foxhole to mimic tank overuns grinding the foxhole (and the men within it) into the earth. with an appropriate bog check of course. it might be a bit much, but then again if your adding barbed wire, shouldn't treaded vehicles be able to run over and destroy that as well? Forgive the slight off-topic, just trying to grasp concepts and then extrapolate them into ideas to make Charles insane.. ;D
  5. Please, sweet lord, give us TCP/IP WeGo. I can't convince any of my Non-wargaming friends to play this game without it. PBEM is obnoxious to deal with, Hotseat is tedious beyond platoon-size battles, and I despise realtime, especially without a pause. Playing an excellent sequel to a game that then lacks a feature that would allow me to share that experience with people ( And was included with the original) is DEEPLY frustrating.
  6. I figure it is probably a long shot for the TALON/SWORDS robot to actually be put in the game, but I am highly interested in getting one. I find one of the big draws of a modern/near future game is figuring out new tactics for all the new toys. Hell, isn't that one of the reasons they chose to focus on Stryker brigades? To see how effective the platform can be in a conventional and/or asymmetrical fight? I guess I just have fun thinking up all the crafty things I could do with just an unarmed IED robot in an assault. You could do pre-assault recon for knowing exactly where your enemy is, getting as close as you want since the thing is so tiny and quiet. If it is discovered and destroyed, it's not a big loss since no one is dead. Granted it has a financial cost, but it's politically cheap. And can you imagine the fun you could have with one equipped with an MG? Have one or two of these babies skirt around the flank of the enemy in some brush or trees and start firing them off. They are so small and quiet they are hard to detect, so in concealment the enemy can't tell what or who is shooting at them. And while they are busy figuring out how to take them out(supressive fire now means nothing, they have to physically destroy them), your real men are enveloping in from the other side. I can just see these things driving the Syrian player NUTS. Give these things some forward observer capabilities and these bad boys are lethal. I'm sure this won't balance the game out very well, but damned if it doesn't sound entertaining.
  7. bump. been away from the computer for a week while learning to become a correctional officer. *hoping for official shootdown by steve* ;D
  8. First off, I am a long time lurker and poster from the CMBO days. Glad to finally find my login info so I could post my thoughts to this informative forum. So hello again! I was watching Futureweapons on TV the other day involving the armed version of a bomb-defusing robot, and wondering if such a robot might actually be in use by frontline US forces in the timeline given for the Syria scenario, and the possibility of it being included in one of the addons for Shock Force. I understand that it could be considered too esoteric a weapon system to have a large impact on a battlefield in 2009, or how useful it could be in a highly fluid battle of maneuver. But I am intrigued by the idea of the US having a recon MG platform with no morale issues and no casualties if destroyed. I can imagine how useful that could be with the new asymmetrical objectives for CMSF. Obviously this would be out for the initial release, but has Battlefront considered the possibility of adding one of these in? I'm pretty sure I know the answer already, but I'm still curious. (hey, at least I'm not bringing up the T-80 again ) Link: http://compsci.ca/tech/weapons/swords-talon-armed-robotic-vehicle/
