  1. Damn Bil, you seem to be ventilating his Shermans for him all over the place. Looks like you killed the one and two others have got to be in a bad way. This doesn't bode well for ND, the balance of firepower capability is swinging heavily your way. If he doen't find a way to shut down your Pz overwatch he isn't gonna have much left to protect that infantry. I wouldn't rest yet, but looking back not too long ago the odds of you achieving your objective have increased dramatically - says a lot for perseverance.
  2. Just for clarification - I don't play RTS, ever. I am strictly a WeGo person. As to the other, there seem to be a fair amount of threads on "how can you even play this I had this one scene where.... fill in example" I play a lot - I have 3 PBEM opponents and I also had to play a lot of scenarios against the AI for testing. While yes there are occasions where I see things that likely shouldn't happen, they are far from so broken/often as to totally ruin the game as I keep hearing. Respectfully I wonder how the heck folks are playing the game to get those results. It isn't about defending the game, I have nothing at stake here in terms of any ego attachment to BF or a financial commitment. I certainly don't program so it isn't like I am just being lazy to not have to fix things. The only option that leaves is either I am just trying to be a contradictory PitA (which I probably can be at times, but honestly I am not trying to do so here) or for some reason I don't seem to get the same results anywhere near as often as some others. Which then leads me back to my question. How are folks gettting these results they say they see all the time? Could it be a matter not just of the game, but HOW you play it? I am not talking RTS vs WeGO here. It is just a thought as unless my PBEM partners tell me I am just oblivious, I am just not gettting overwhelmed with these kinds of issues.
  3. and most of the time it will not. If it were a regular thing, that I'd be freaking over, but it isn't and I don't. For it to NEVER happen would mean a lot of other things never happening that should. Re run that same turn a few dozen times and count the number of times that happens. Why is it gamers seem to be the last ones to understand what the limitations computers impose on the games they play? Every game has them and for the forseeable future every game will continue to have them. Is there any comparable game you would take seriously (that is not meant to be sarcastic- it is a genuine question - there aren't any out there that I have seen that aren't either totally about eye candy or just aren't any good - I have yet to see anything of CM's caliber.) On the other hand think about what you are seeing here. When would the US army ever rush an M7 past a town occupied by German tanks. Kilkess's joke notwithstanding, M7's are not tank hunters, they really are artillery pieces. If you play the game totally unrealistically to begin with, do you really have any business calling the game itself out for anything that happens that normally shouldn't?
  4. The round hits home and the rest of his team is now looking and waiting for.... These guys. You want to keep those pistol armed uber tank crews at bay? Shoot them. We will see what happens, but I am betting this is one crew that isn't going anywhere but to the rear- if the few left are lucky enough. Notice how much calmer my guys are now than when they heard the tank approaching. That's too bad really as there is another tank to their left and they are out of PFs..... Don't get any ideas JonS - I made sure you can't tell how many more teams I have spread all over this field.... dozens, no hundreds.. THOUSANDS!!!! Surrender now, it is your only chance.
  5. My small addition to the debate about whether armor ambushes in WeGo work and the impact of tank crews - also I wanted this for posterity's sake as it has taken me a long time to understand how to use a PF. Credit goes to JonS for teaching me as well as my condolences for being my first victim. It is your own fault JonS. Note this is still without version 2 and armored covered arcs. The scene - A Churchill approaches - just in the foreground, barely visible is a 3 man scout team This is what the scout team sees. Note the extent of the covered arc. Is is short, just at outer range of Panzerfaust. The team first spots the Churchill, note one MP 40 equipped guy is aiming at the exposed TC. and he drills him, note the Mauser armed soldier is now moving while the MP 40 guy has gone back to waiting - waiting for what you ask? Waiting for this guy, the tank has begun reversing and fired off smoke, but it is too little too late.
  6. Not sure, but I believe some bastard named Murphy has something to do with it.
  7. Only the aspect of them continuing to advance. Even in HTH play, being in close proximity to a tank crew bailing can be bad news. Most of my AT assests fire from a good bit further than that so I haven't had to really deal with it, but some of my opponents (JonS) who are better at close assault tactics have had to deal with my crews bailing. Of 3 cases I think only one really ended up with the attacker dead, but I think in the others I may have caused a casualty or two.
  8. Yeah I realize this is probably heresy, but I look at this one as so much eye candy. Unless we have maps of scale large enough to warrant it, I don't really see myself having my Infantry hitchhike a ride. I am much more focused on some nuances of TAC AI and possibly some UI additions. Being able to poke around a corner with an MG or AT weapon would be a huge deal for urban fighting and likely be used far more often. Was playing a scenario from TF Panther in CMSF last night and even fighting against the AI I was totally impressed (and immersed) with the overall urban combat. Just a couple additions for the WW2 battlefield could make for a helluva game experience for Aachen or Stalingrad. I know this one has been talked to death and I understand the difficulties involved, but the gun elevation concerns for armor in built up areas could also have huge ramifications for urban combat. I'd take any of those over tank riding any day of the week and twice on weekends!
  9. I use slow for short and I mean very short distances only. Like sneaking out from behind a building to take position behind a wall. I can't see guys crawling along and hauling their equipment very far without getting pretty tired anyway. If you are asking them to crawl an extended distance I suspect you are having them move too far in an exposed position as it is. If the command gets altered to rest the trops while moving it should also mean making the movement even slower than it is, penalizing those who use it for what it is normally intended for. I do pretty much the same with fast. It is for dashing across a street etc, sprinting. Not for racing down that hill across the valley and up the next hill to get into a reverse slope position and beat the enemy to it. Overall that looks like a lot of AI requests to do what I can already do, but you want the TAC AI to do it for you. Personally I see that as a bad choice for programming time. I'd prefer to see that spent on doing things I CAN'T do right now - like peek around a building with a bazooka.
  10. Just for clarification here are we talking about the AI or human opponents? If human, then yeah cut out the gamey shhhhhtuff and send your crews to the rear. If the AI, well we know it is a gamey knnnniggit and yeah just reducing the accuracy of the crews should take care of this. (and maybe have prevented my Churchill crew from turning your AT team into swiss cheese early in our previous PBEM as they bailed out of their tank. they did go to the rear after that). I did notice with a particular CMFI scenario the AI tank crews continuing to attack into the teeth of my defenses after their rides err broke down. That is an additional item I would like some day go away. At worst they should go to ground near the vehicle. At best retreat if possible to their appropriate zone.
  11. You wouldn't be the first to make the mistake. You'll get a demerit, but won't have to stay after class much less be expelled. They might slap your wrist, but it is mostly just to make you are aware of the restriction and after a short bit it is expunged from your record. Yes I do speak from experience.
  12. I could see possibly Chinese gamers wanting to be able to fight their countries units but I expect there would be a miniscule N Korean gaming community if one exists at all. Anyone with access to the internet and CM would have to be someone who fled the regime with little likely sympathy with it. I could on the other hand see a possible South Korean community wanting to face off against the North. One place it might be interesting to see about PLA battle drill is any information that may have come out about the fighting between Vietnam and China. Granted it is dated, but as I recall China didn't exactly fair all that well despite commiting some 200,000 troops to the invasion. The spin was good, but the reality was they never even faced Vietnamese regulars.
  13. I'd be interested though the liklihood of my being able to commit realistic time to it is likely more around latter half of November. If you still need volunteers however I'd be happy to join in.
  14. Just finished the last one, nice, really nice. Funny this completely replaced TV for me for a few days.
  15. Man you gotta love that. The only time it is nice to see enemy artillery- when it is hitting empty space.
  16. one way or the other it looks like it is about to hit the fan.
  17. sssshhhhhh as long as they are in here it keeps them from harassing the local populace.
  18. LOL I was wondering if you were just gonna mod it for moddings sake. I have to agree, I think BF has done a really good job, and they will be applying the same to CMBN soon. Still hoping for decals/unit markings though.
  19. tastes great! less filling! LOL I love the disparity of opinion about whether is is more infantry or armor centric. I suspect it really comes down to how you play the game, but defining even what we mean by those terms is probabaly not as simple as it might appear. I personally view it as more infantry centric, but at least a part of that is simply how I approach the game rather than any actual dynamic. I love watching individual infantry engagements. I have 2 PBEMS going both of which involve armor and infantry. I spend more of my time at the infantry level deciding very exactly where I want to be and when etc I think partly because my infantry is more vulnerable to being randomly hit. Not that I don't pay attention to the armor aspect, but I am simply not required to babysit them as much. Those spotting rounds have much more importance to my squishy units.
  20. excellent!! now all i need is mord/dc portrait mods.... hint hint hint
  21. Where those insignia reside however changes by unit. Whether as poesel71 suggests that decals may help resolve I don't know. A drop down list of divisons in the editor however is something I doubt BF will be thrilled about. Just for clarification, I wasn't referring to game maps, but image maps which potentially could be impacted. I know BF wants to stabilize those so they do not need to be redone just to upgrade a version, however they are having to do just that for CMBN. Yeah I know I would! I definitely wouldn't want to give up fire for it, but yeah if it is something that eventually they found a reasonable answer for it would be absolutely cool. As it is now I have a couple PBEMs I may go through a turn or two a night and I definitely am not going to reload mods each time. If I am going to look for screenshots however I would. It would be really nice if that were not the case and every save I load in had the unit specific images for. yeah I'd pay extra for that -
