  1. We are a funny bunch. They have been releasing games faster than ever before- by a long shot and we are still complaining that their process is too slow. (and I include myself as one of those who is standing around fidgeting like I have to go to the bathroom waiting for CMBN version 2). Welcome to the "instant gratification is too slow" forum.
  2. LOL "Trip, trap, trip, trap! " went the bridge. "Who's that tripping over my bridge?"
  3. Actually I think they are less complicated than that. The primary source of lack of info isn't that BF is somehow reticent to discuss, but more due to them having so few people. ANYONE stopping to take time for discussions and feedback here is time away from the game- period. Honestly how much difference is it really gonna make for us to know more about the timeline or items they are working on especially if that directly impacts their ability to produce and meet those timelines? Which still always seems to leave us asking "are we there yet?" The other keys to a successful relationship are patience and understanding.
  4. LOL we are never happy unless there is new news...and maybe not even then, but it is good occasionally to step back for some prespective. IF BF gets the MG module out and one other (which is well within the timing of what they were forecasting) by March of 2013, they will have released the equivalent of the entire CMSF family in the space of one year. If they are even close it would still be a phenomenal change in pace. Considering the work load that implies maybe we should let them alone in their cubicle/cells to crank the stuff out.
  5. Well if you are close enough, do your teams have any smoke? You can always cloud the hell out of it and close assault the darn thing.
  6. Yeah you'd have to go back to shortly after CMBN was released to find that. It was part of the whole discussion of close combat depictions or not etc etc.
  7. +1 on that. If you can unravel him from the flank, it'll definitely get him reacting to you which if nothing else will buy you a little more time.
  8. I was pointed to use google's G drive. Check my signature of the Hamel Vallee files to get an idea. I is real easy uploading to the drive once you are all set and have your permissions for sharing the file set. If you are just thinking of one file, you can use dropbox and just copy and paste in the link for the file.
  9. Cool, will be interesting to see how this map plays out with a different force mix. It has some nice LOS complications.
  10. Only Berlin? I thought we would have liberated Warsaw as well?
  11. I don't want to reveal too much to any who haven't played, I'll send you a more detailed synopsis via PM. However as vKleist has heard me say often enough - I hate fighting in woods.
  12. Well, not too far. That one guy nailed 3 of my men... He was not captured alive...at least not for long.
  13. surrender Dorothy For those of you in the DC area you may recall (if it isn't still there) that spray painted on the RR trestle (heading towards VA) over the beltway near Silver Spring - right before the Mormon Temple tower comes into view. The all time greatest bit of graffitti anywhere.
  14. Media hype is one thing. Hell the media can screw up a wet dream. Separate that out from just appreciating the situation itself. No reason to worry about comparing this to any other feat, it is just friggin amazing to see a guy jump from space. Then again it is friggin amazing we walk around with a handheld personal communication device that can play movies with far more clarity than the huge ridiculously heavy device that passed for television when I was young.
  15. Don't toy with me charliemike24, I know you and JonS have been hanging with Siri again..... *edit - see how my program is self correcting?
  16. So without going into too many details i.e. spoilers - 1st Company has overcome it's opposition taking a few prisoners and killing/capturing or driving off all remaining opposition and their support vehicles are now pouring through to assist in seizing Froitscheidt. 2nd Company is in full control of Kommerscheidt and 3rd Company along with the Tigers is driving on towards the overwatch position in preparation for the full assault on Schmidt. One of my Tigers just took out an M10 (strange little incident where the Tiger almost bogged and while attempting to unbog spotted the M10 and killed it before the M10 could react). I have artillery about to hit the remaining M10s and will then move to sieze the high ground. Casualties have not been too bad but it has taken some work to drive the Americans from their positions. 1st Company in particular has had it's hands full but seems to have achieved a critical turning point in terms of fire superiority now that it's support vehicles are able to lend a hand. I have really enjoyed the scenario so far Pandur. Good show.
  17. I can vouch that JonS is not an AI only player. Unless I don't realize it but am only a computer program...but I wouldn't be asking that if I were a computer program...unless of course I had been programmed to ask that......omg!!!
  18. Empower yourself, play the demos. They are free and will help you decide which you prefer far more than asking others what they think you might prefer.
  19. As cited in that very link most historians including David Glantz believe Suvorov is way off base.
  20. I hope I am understanding the full intent of your question. CMx1 used something akin to ASL counters. A 3 man figure was a full squad, a 2 man figure was half squad etc. Everything behind that is counted as the whole unit. If they are in a tree action spot, they are all given the benefit of the trees. If in a building, same thing, they got a building terrain modifier if you will. CMx2 does not follow that model. It isn't just about being aesthetically pleasing (though that is important still) but figuring out how the tac ai will work for the individual units as well as ballistic modelling. So going back to the previous example, if I have a squad hanging out near the edge of some woods and they are fired upon, some of them will actually get protection from trees and some may not. Regarding buildings, I haven't seen a team or squad I send into a building not all be in the building, but even then where they are in the building can affect LOS and LOF. So your answer is no, CM is not modelling it as a base unit firing on a base unit. Individuals are firing (if they have LOF and aren't cowering) at other units. I just had a small firefight where towards the end a GI and German soldier squared off at maybe 8-10 meters in some woods. The rest of both their squads that were still functional either did not have LOS/LOF or were running away. The GI lost. A member of another German team got eyes on the GI. Good thing as the KAR 98 ROF is way slower than the M1 and my trooper was gonna be toast soon. Given all that it is important for the TAC AI as well as the figure modelling to get things right to make the ballistic modelling shows what is actually happening versus a virtual presentation. There is enough fudging that has to be done for Action spots and unit placement already. Hand to hand combat is another of those things that had to be sacrificed as the computing power to represent it well just isn't there. If you recall in CMx1 you just got a bunch of Batman/Robin thudding noises.
  21. Can you imagine the drill instructors when all us geezers start showing up and then challenging them on the firing characteristics of our MGs and Mortars? Somehow I think our discussion of snippy responses will have a whole new dimension...
  22. I accept that challenge....now I just have to find time to play those scenarios......
