  1. This is way off topic so I will try to limit my response. For me self driving cars have the potential to completely alter our society in a good way. I am not one of those who can afford a Ferrari/Lamborghini etc so frankly I don't much care if they can't strut their ego. But think of this. Suppose you never had to own a car. You open an app, request a vehicle, it takes you where you want to go and then it goes somewhere else. Net result, because they are dynamically allocated for use it means fewer cars, fewer pollutants (I am speaking here of the pollutants in the actual creation of the vehicle), less space eaten up for parking, fewer costs by insurance companies etc. Heck I can turn my driveway into garden space. Yes life will be a lot different but in my view the automobile is largely a very unsatisfactory inefficient answer to transportation. Self driving autos would go a long way to making them a better answer. As to that theory of boxes and speed. Consistency and logic in driving would actually speed up traffic. It is humans who generally cause the bottlenecks tailgating, causing the fender benders, rubber necking. The problem isn't that we drive too slow, the problem is we drive too stupid. And the folks who are impatient are the ones generally causing the accidents. Just think, you'd never have to care if the other driver is paying attention, or texting etc. I have a new Mazda Cx5 and between the cameras and sensors it amazes me how aware the car is and it isn't even the full package. As to them being susceptible to someone seizing control... stop worrying about cars and start worrying about trains and planes. oops I bet I ruined your sleep tonight. http://mashable.com/2017/09/29/passenger-drone-vtol-prototype/#lNM.2QNLDkqQ If we deem this worthy of more discussion we should open in the general forum.
  2. Man I am gonna start calling you Glum. How do you get out of bed in the morning with such a level of pessimism?
  3. The doom sayer has spoken you dotard! Do not try to contradict him with facts.
  4. I have had plenty of different teams utilize a javelin so I can't speak to why it isn't working for you. Maybe you gave it to Gomer Pyle
  5. No to my knowledge there is no "training" factor in CM for AT weapons. If pixeltruppen can acquire the weapon via acquire or buddy aid they can use it. A scout is not typically assigned one simply because they are a scout. That is a ToE issue not a factor of capability. HQ units aren't assigned one either, but they can use it.
  6. Anyone who will pick it up will use it, just make sure they have ammo
  7. Drone warfare ISIS style. http://www.latimes.com/world/la-fg-isis-drones-20170928-story.html
  8. Thanks for your work - the FEMA stuff (and your CM stuff, but the FEMA is just a weeeee bit more important.)
  9. Odd circumstance. Guess not really odd, but as soon as I heard the unit name I thought, wait a minute I was just reading about that unit.... Watching Ken Burns on Vietnam Episode 7 and they are interviewing a guy from 1/4th Marines based near the DMZ.
  10. yeah an issue with bridges.... as to the Germans mindlessly charging. There is only so much you can expect from the AI. If you think it isn't presenting a challenge play a human. ;-) Serious fun there and a lot more tense. The AI on the attack is pretty limited. It only really has a chance if it way outnumbers you or has units you have difficulty countering - Think King Tigers in the open.
  11. I don't think master maps were quite a concept for cmbs, I think that started with RT shortly thereafter. That the folder structure is in is interesting but I don't recall much discussion of master maps back then.
  12. Actually to get serious Columbus had some badly flawed views. He insisted the world was smaller (and egg shaped) than they suspected it was hence the nature of his voyage. Everyone else said the distance to sail west to China was too far for the means of the time. Columbus insisted they were wrong and could make it. He lucked out that another continent existed or he'd have just died. http://www.smithsonianmag.com/travel/columbus-confusion-about-the-new-world-140132422/
  13. Anyone else watching the Ken Burns documentary on Vietnam? Just watching episode 3 on the Gulf of Tonkin. A nice example of what kind of s**t can go wrong.
  14. LOL yeah really. Military morale is really lax here!
  15. Ha yeah that might have been a dead give away. Thanks man
  16. Reading Battle for the City of the Dead on the 11th MEU in Najaf 2004. The 1/4th Marines are the ground combat element. In CM terms If I select an MEU I am I assume getting the ground combat element and the Commanding officer would be the Commander of the 1/4th Lt Col John Mayer and not the MEU commander Col Haslam. Correct assumption?
  17. like a sort of mine clearing, that would be utterly cool and add to potential missions - patrol MSR Michigan and locate any IEDs for removal. I can think of ways to sort of do it. Maybe a touch objective with an IED on it or something. Possibly use actual minefields, but it would be so much more cooler if we could actually clear IEDs.
  18. well you are certainly entitled to your opinion. However I am still playing the dated version of pre cmbn frequently and it seems there is still an active cmx1 community so not sure what you base that on. I don't see any issue you cited as a game breaker nice to have? sure. Must have? nope but that is just my opinion.
  19. I assume you have a hammer ready Michael, if not here is mine. Hey wait isn't the world supposed to end today? Hurry up we may not have much time.
