  1. I wouldn’t assume anything from just one battle. You’d need more data to reach any real conclusions I haven’t noticed any issues with my men using them yet, but playtime of CMBS scenarios has been short.
  2. Anything will be at 4.0 when you buy it new.
  3. My wife does QA for adobe unfortunately as a contractor so I don’t think she can get a discount, but I’ll check.
  4. Ahh he has been called back from the other world just in time. Emery’s ear hairs are still potent! Good to see you back Mord
  5. you split off a scout team and order them to an overwatch position to observe. The overwatch is 200 meters away. The team loses C2 in 50 meters. So they go the the OP (assuming they don’t immediately stop at 51 meters sit down and say hmmm I am out of C2 guess I gotta stop) and start observing. They see a tank platoon coming. They are out of C2, what do they do? According to what you said above a unit out of C2 can not be given orders and you can’t react based on their info. Are you saying that because they had an assigned mission you can now have them react because it is in compliance with their orders? How does the game determine that or is it simply your choice now as a player. One implies that you have the ability and choose what to do or not based on your feelings which is exactly what Peregrine and Bil have tried to formalize in a set of rules. You don’t need the rules. You can decide based on your feeling about how they’d react. The second implies as you said that you are completely unable in which case your units are now restricted to actions that don’t entail getting out of C2. That seems even more artificial than what we do now and far from realistic. Units would have no capability for personal initiative you don’t seem to be willing to think out exactly how what you are asking for would actually play out.
  6. Whew! thought I was gonna have consider switching to elite.
  7. As one of the few players who seems to be vocal about using iron mode as far as I recall it has always worked this way since I first bought CMSF and though the manual is incorrect, I always figured it was a good thing as I can’t imagine an orders phase trying to plan movement. You are still going to know where every unit is, you’d simply have have to go from unit to unit to build a composite view. That would seem to make the feature as described pointless. As it stands I have always felt this was a good compromise for the player as you can still issue commands without it being excessively tedious while still getting a clearer view of the state of your units. As to having more adverse restrictions on the units themselves I can’t really speak to it as I have never tried to compare. I like how iron mode works and have never felt the need to pursue if it is truly harder or not. That is why I have never tried to point it out as a “bug”. To me changing it would break the feature. Whether it was in early versions of CMSF closer to the manual description I can not say.
  8. From Steve’s post on CM discussion thread on their current plans 5. CMSF2 will not be expanded in its initial release. We're leaving open the possibility of adding content later. However, we also have no plans to do so folks may want to keep that in mind.
  9. That would kill Iron mode for me. You can already chose not to deselect, why force people like me to have to have that behavior? The player who wants this level of challenge can already chose to do this. No programming required. Enjoy.
  10. As one of those who plays wego in iron mode all the time, no it is not harder per se. In real time maybe but I look through every turn anyway several times just to check out various units etc. what it does do for me when a unit is selected is tell me what that unit’s level of awareness is of everyone around them. I don’t see it as iron being a higher level and harder so much as a level that gives me more explicit info. Now that I am used to being able to get that info, I feel like I am missing info playing elite. If you wanted to use that mode as a sort of FOW mechanical tool I guess you could. I think folks desire for that is probably more stated than reality though. Try playing in that mode a bit and I think you’d just find it tedious. Kind of like me and my desire for CM:Vietnam. I thought I really wanted it. Then I created a passable jungle map using CMFI and played around a bit and well. . . It wasn’t quite as interesting as I’d hoped.
  11. Too bad they don’t have spellcheck though eh? you’re spelling is erratic.
  12. Unfortunately I think it is too early for discussion on details for cmsf2 unless Steve chimes in.
  13. Yeah love that one. Especially “the snitch”. Great fun
  14. It could have. Wouldn't be the first thread discussing tougher C&C rules as is noted from the various proponents - Peregrine, Bil Hardenberger. It went off the rails because the OP somehow decided the those rules were for a minority of a minority while somehow sidestepping that his proposal fit the same standard. From there it just went downhill. I still like both Bil and Peregrine's ideas. For sure they aren't for everyone. Heck even standard Iron mode isn't for everyone. I know some who use it, but I'd be hard pressed to say that any significant portion of users take advantage of it.
  15. As a point of reference and sheer good fun, this is a great moment in time. A bones thread before the release of CMBN. Doomsayers were there even then.
  16. snort! Damn got coffee up my nose on this one. First I would have to believe you have friends. That's a tough one. Second I'd have to believe you have enough friends constantly buying BF products to be able to graph sales over time. On a daily basis no less according to you. Somebody here is in fantasy land. Fluctuations in sales are a part of any business. Also in this particular business certain theaters sell better than others. NW Europe WW2 sells pretty darn good. Italy and Russia not so much so. I am absolutely sure in your detailed modeling (read stalking) of BF's business you took into account the changes in market dynamics to reflect an expected change in sales? Yep I am so sure you did cause no one would ever consider just throwing numbers together to make them appear to back an assessment for doom he's been peddling for years Oh and thanks for tossing out the obligatory "fanboy" assessment. Was beginning to wonder if that had gone out of fashion. Good to know my fanboy club membership is still valid. @IICptMillerIII suspect we are getting rolled and he is just bored and looking to see if it is possible to cause someone to have an aneurism by just pushing more and more nonsensical statements
  17. I think it started down that path once you started posting. Cause and effect kind of thing. I am confident you can expand on this in other ways. My friend got divorced. His first wife was blonde. His new fiancée is brunette. His blonde feature got removed and he is upset.
  18. you can make some things look like some amazing stuff, just look at some of the Stalingrad mod work. Unfortunately it is strictly appearance.
  19. saw that and face palmed. Who ever decided that should go outside and jump in front of a bus or train.
  20. Pushing them to do more never hurts unless you build up an expectation you will get it. It is a ton of work to get CMSF up to engine 4. Hence BF seeming to put it out up front to not have expectations they are gonna pile stuff on. The starting point to work from is CMSF with 4.0 capabilities. That in itself means more than you had in CMSF, but I would not expect more than that at least for now. The map overlay capability alone is gonna be worth it's weight in gold. I am one of those who would love more...Taliban guys in CMSF would be so cool, but I'll leave that on my wish list now for maybe a future pack. The afghan models in CMA for example are a no go. They are not done the way BF does them so it would have to be all new models.
  21. Umm exactly how did you determine the vehicle pack did not do well? "tactically and realism-wise absolutely no difference." Maybe you didn't buy it, but even just looking at the announcement page- Mine clearing equipment has no tactical affect? Once again you clearly have no idea what you are talking about. It certainly isn't the impression BF has given as packs are still on the table as they see places where they fit. And your statement about "engine improvements over the last few years were almost nil anway" is just so ridiculously wrong I am beginning to wonder if you just use a magic eight ball to come up with random complaints. Complaining about "how could they get rid of that" about a feature that has been gone for over 10 years and you JUST noticed because someone told you would be funny if it weren't so pathetic. The owner of the company has repeatedly clearly stated that BF is doing fine yet you insist on peddling this doom and gloom nonsense. Doesn't it embarrass you at all that you are contradicting the people in the know with absolutely no access to relevant data?
  22. I am not sure what that question is but if it is what I suspect I think your answer was here
  23. the other thing this makes me wonder. Are these all Kim Jong Un's bastard offspring? You know this isn't your typical "my parents are eating grass and working in a coal mine that is ready to collapse to make ends meet" children's day care.
  24. "You could poke somebody's eye out!" - teacher in NK promoting use of bayonet. Next we will learn to run with scissors to stab at American invaders.
