  1. same here Was funny. Thought it would be about ARENA or TROPHY shooting all the RPGs down
  2. Presicely, But now you're officially in the "fanboi" club . Otherwise you'd of had to say "FIX OR DOSOMFINK!"
  3. yeah, just a couple scouts getting the flank on a squad or more that's trying to hide behind some hedgerows likely means all the germans are dead from the semi auto fire.
  4. I think its easy to think the distance in game are shorter than they really are. I'm sure not everyone is making that mistake but I am pretty sure 16 m seems a lot farther through the mud and brush. Oh on a personal experience note, I once took a firefighter physical test practice test, while very unprepared and out of shape, and Ill note it was the 16ish m crawling course that took me from winded to completely gassed, then I fell down during the following event, the body drag.
  5. Please excuse how unqualified I am to comment on the subject, but this is an internet forum, so carrying on. This subject just brought out a little patriotic duty to say something as I think official US Army use of a modified CM engine would benefit our country. I had never thought of BFC trying to sell a CM derivative to other countries militaries, but even though I assume Steve is right about the US Army being not worse/better than average about these things, it seems like the much larger number of potential customers (countries) combined with their much smaller budgets, would make it a lot more doable to get a contract with one of them. That in turn would draw US Army attention to the option, and give it precedent. Also, I think 100,000 is too low an amount to offer and might make em scoff. I think much time and money must be asked for because that is what is expected. This in turn lets you use the fact that countries like to source defense projects domestically when possible. In exchange for the several million they give you to make a militarized version of the product, you agree to open an office in said country to which you will outsource much of the work. Bada Bing Bada Boom jk. I only bring this up here because this is such a worldwide meeting of minds in relevant places. It might take a full bird+ here in the states to start things going, but maybe if we get other officers in other countries talking to their superiors about it, the ball might start rolling. Ok last point, we've been talking about finding friends well placed in the military, as is appropriate, but it seems we are leaving a stone unturned. What about friends in the defense industry? For example my uncle in law did a lot of defense industry stuff for AEGIS and I guess other projects like that. Seems a bit far removed from the CM scale to be of much help, I just bring it up because it makes me think others here might have more relevant defense industry connections. Edit to add : "In exchange for the several million they give you to make a militarized version of the product, you agree to open an office in said country to which you will outsource much of the work." Which of course doesn't work out so smooth, so you've gotta go over budget and take a little extra time, so they pay you more because they expect that and that's how things work. More profit.
  6. Oh yeah, muscle memory, shift just fell out of my awareness thanks!
  7. Oh and while on the subject of area firing with multiple units I'll note that since units ignore target orders to places they can't see, you can get more of them to shoot by targeting around a few times to target places that more of the guys can see (since some obstructions will block some of the guys view of the first spot you target).
  8. Also Target Briefly and Pause are both very helpful in RT. Same with the box select, and the various double clicking on units and clicking in the lower left to select larger units and give group orders (like area fire target briefly with a company;). So if I need to move a platoon of tanks or infantry up to a ridge along a specific route through defilade, I'll use the group move to give waypoints up to just shy of the ridge crest, then move the final waypoints around to get em hull down or whatever. I also sometimes give much longer and more complicated orders in RT. In Wego Ill usually not do more than 1 or 1.5 or 2 turns worth of orders. But in RT I try to start the battle with most of my guys having orders to cover substantial distance. Pause helps give long orders during the battle to multiple units with different orders, you can give a long pause to the first unit to give time to finish the rest. And some really long legs of 16m assault orders. And what everyone else said. Its normal and good to just let half your forces kick it on one side of the map while you do stuff on the other. Its actually usually a lot more realistic than constantly using everyone as happens with WeGo.
  9. The problem could be that not all mortars have smoke rounds. If your mortars DO have smoke rounds, they are selected during the mission intensity stage, at the bottom of the list.
  10. Also I gotta say that I get way to much enjoyment from seeing the deathblow dealt after all the build up, and I like the idea of seeing some people continue being the jerks they are just to gt the swift "permanent" re-ban. And Finally Dloading it as a 30th Bday present to myself! " I AM grateful for the recent bans to be honest but would be happy to see em again in a year or two. "* *so they can be banned again
  11. OK I see I have no seconds and have been thoroughly "out voted" by those more knowledgeable on the subject. However I wasn't imagining they would all come swarming back at once to take over the forums but just that a few might eventually notice and be grateful for the mercy/second chance and try again with lessons learned. I AM grateful for the recent bans to be honest but would be happy to see em again in a year or two.
  12. Yeah, I know well from my time playing tcp/ip and having to alt tab to steam to chat with my friend and coordinate the game starting, that CM is not always the most alt tab friendly game. Still works tho And luckily for me my computer is especially CM strong (sandy bridge) for its power so it was more of a strain on his comp than mine
  13. If that is Micheal Dorosh, I still think we should get him back on the forum somehow... maybe just because I missed all the drama... but still, feels almost a little sad how a few of the die hard fans are stuck on the outside. I motion that all permanent bans become one or two year bans followed by permanent probation. Fwiw . Plus the trolls ARE kinda fun sometimes.... would be kinda boring if they some how ALL ended up getting themselves banned. Not M.D. was a troll, just trolls are banned a lot.
  14. I like it just the way it is*. And it perfectly clear to me, well chosen sentence length**. *True **Jk
  15. "Well maye something has changed. In the Lanzerath Ridge scenario I first defoliated and then destroyed a tree from continuous HMG/rifle fire (some 20 turns) and a Panzerschreck round. " That's been happening for a while now tho I think
  16. The assault command can be great with short waypoints!
  17. They do model specific grenade types but only to a limited and abstracted level. The different armies have different grenades with different strengths and weaknesses. Some armies have special grenades simulated in addition to the regular ones, such as the Ruskies having some special "nerf football" shaped charge grenades. But there is also the abstracted tank assault grenades, which represent grenade bundles and other random thrown antitank weapons. These use the same ammo count as regular anti infantry grenades. It is this way because the variety of official and improvised antitank weapons was too much to include explicitly (but certain important exceptions were included). Now we don't expect the anti infantry explicitly simulated grenades to have the same anti tank power as the abstracted antitank grenades, but it does seem reasonable to expect the abstracted antitank grenades to be proportionately powerful to the average power of the antitank weapons it represents. Meaning that just like a nation that has better AP grenades in real life has better AP grenades in game (such as Germany with its large amount of HE filler, and US grenades with their pineapple shaped fragmentation thinger), the nations with better average antitank grenades (improvised or other) should have more antitank-penetrative grenades. Since the game already tracks HE/fragmentation (or is it HE AND fragmentation, I think its AND) and penetration separately (see sabot or AP shell vs HE shell), I assume each nations generic grenade (which represents the AP grenade explicitly and the AT grenades abstractly) has separate numbers for each effect (HE, Frag, penetration). So long story short I think BF purposefully made the Italian grenades poor performers in all three categories to represent both the ineffective AP results of the low frag low blast AP grenades, and the ineffectiveness of the official and improvised AT grenades. On the other hand I don't remember ever being disappointed with the results of my Italian grenades being thrown at enemy personnel. Despite being weak grenades, something about 20 guys throwing grenades works anyway But maybe not against even thinnest armour, without luck, in game.
  18. I knew I was using a bit of exaggeration there with those choices of pics, for emphasis and to make the point. Probably a bad point tho And Im not talking about the average tree here but the tree that is extra big but still obviously covered by the one and only model for that tree type. If I had been showing redwoods tho I would have had a car driving through the tree. Thinking about all these trees getting blasted down by HE is making me think we've got it easy the way trees just disappear now. If the smaller trees were just falling over after one or two hits we'd have all these horizontal trees providing their trunks as cover and foliage as concealment. Also the forest ground tends to be relatively log (great cover) free. But Ill just imagine heavy woods ground cover includes logs.
  19. http://www.conifers.org/pi/pi/l/lambertiana08.jpg I live in CA so when I think of big trees redwoods come to mind first, but I know that's not fair for Europe. So here's a pine tree in CA ( still unfair, I know, we win the tree game). Id guess it would take over 50 AP shells to stump this bad boy if you weren't deliberately chopping it down with the gun. Here is a nice big oak looking much harder to stump that the last onehttp://etrabelsie.blogspot.com/2010/10/giant-oak-tree.html and
  20. But wouldn't a big tree have substantially more inches of wood to penetrate ( and much stronger via thickness and wetness) than 4 wooden buildings? Not wooden buildings and my argument probably falls on its face.
  21. I think target light work better for direct firing mortars. With target briefly its kinda tricky to use because they shoot spotting rounds for x number of rounds and then they shoot fast for y time remaining. With target light they just shoot one round at a time and wait for it to land before adjusting and shooting again. IIRC. IanL said, "Speaking of direct fire here: The problem with target briefly is after the timer runs down it stops even if the team has not adjusted their aim. A useful technique is to use target light. That will use a slower rate of fire. Many people find it very handy. " I was late to the party, I see I'm not adding anything here. Carry on.
  22. I've "pre"ordered on the day of release, paid 10 or more extra dollars for a physical copy I didn't really care about so that I could download it a few hours earlier. But I live in the states so no crazy Euro mafia holding my goods ransom for fat ransom cash.
