Hi All, We're pretty thrilled to announce that H2HH 1.0.0 is available. At least, I am H2H Helper is an app that takes the hassle out of H2H game file administration. It tells you who's turn it is, at any time, and copies the files in and out of the folders automatically to sensible places, such as a "Dropbox" share folder, or your own "archive" folder. It also has a chat facility to chat about the game with your oppo. You can get it from the H2HH Dropbox share (by sending me a PM with your email in it). Or you can download it from CMMODS ( PC Version ) (Mac version). The advantage of getting it from the Dropbox share is that you can get the regular updates from there. The CMMODS version will only get updated on major revisions. This version 1.0.0 has been pretty widely used (50+ people using it). Its available for PC and Mac, has English, French, German and Spanish localisation and a chat facility. There's a support email address listed in the "About" dialog. Documentation is at the H2HH web site Enjoy. The H2HH Team: César Moreno Markus Mohr DingChavez Charles 'Texas Toast' Reece Martin 'GreenAsJade' Gregory.

Dead FO team memeber incapacitaties Arty?
GreenAsJade replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Yeah, that's it. I couldn't quite deduce from the thread: is it acknowledged as a bug? -
I have an FO who was calling in two strikes (from two batteries) The "Foward Observer" member of the team was killed, the other two "soldiers" are sitting there "aiming" and "medic" respectively. This seems to have completely taken out the two arty batteries. The FO team is showing "denied" to these batteries, and every other spotter sees them as "busy". Do I need to get the whole team killed to free up those batteries? Or will they eventually decide to abandon the fire mission? GaJ

No criticism incurred I stated what I think BFC's thinking is, based on what we've seen before. I didn't say that I support it: quite the opposite: from the perspective of a community player and contributor, it sucks. It's just understandable using the logic that I described. I wish BFC would be more supportive of their community and the massive volunteer effort that goes into it. But for better or for worse, the community is largely about H2H play, which clearly isn't their main money maker... Or use H2HH and have it do all that for you Except actually start the game, which would be nice, but would need a CMBN command-line option to do it... GaJ

Whoa, I totally misread the histogram It does say that the Allies achieved a great win. But it's only two results. Interesting though! George can take heart It probably won't be long before there are more results on this one... GaJ

I've been in many, and witnessed many other, "balanced" discussions. I think I stated the most useful "working definition" - the definition that most people will agree with most of the time. I totally agree that there are people out there with other views on what it means. But how helpful is that? If a person thinks that "balanced" means "have identical forces" ... they're entitiled their opinion, much as people who think that smoking doesn't cause lung cancer are entitiled to their opinion. If this is what you have set out to do, then I withdraw any reservations about your scenario. What you have stated is all that I would ask for: that the victory conditions give each side an even chance to win. Why didn't you say so :) I also agree that if you want "equal forces" then "go play a QB" would be a good answer, except that the CMBN QB systm is so broken (due to the maps). I think this is a pretty good test: can the AI win from either side. But note that this thread was about is the scenario balanced for H2H play. At the moment, the only data I can find on this question tells me that we don't have enough data yet: ... but the suspicion that the Allies have it easy is backed up... GaJ
-
Man, this seems like an awful cop-out. I guess everyone is entitled to their choices, and you should do what you think is right, but I think you have a messed up idea of what is "balanced". "Balanced" doesn't mean "have the same forces". "Balanced" means "has the same chance to win". In CMBN, why on earth can't you strive for this every time? If you give one side overwhelming odds, then give them a very hard victory condition. That is balanced... GaJ

Don't hold your breath: I haven't seen any feedback from BFC on this topic, or any interest in it from them. I think they are more likely to implement their own H2HH style features to displace the community options, as they did with the repo: it makes business sense to be able to have control of the customers, hit them with advertising etc, keep them using BFC products and not anyone else's... The irony of this is that visually CMBN is worse than CMx1 for much of the playing time, for me. I play mostly at "range" of 4-7, at which range the men are little ants and the trees all have to be turned off: I'm basically playing with square icons moving around a green map. In CMX1 you could leave trees on and still see stuff (bases) and most importantly, the "Scale" feature meant that you could still see "what" the men are. _And_ in CMx1 you get a visual indication of what it is that all those "contacts" are. In CMBM it's just a field of information-less markers. The movies of action are cool, but we pay a high price for that. GaJ

The mysteries of repository delay
GreenAsJade replied to umlaut's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
So, you can always put it at CMMODS, where it will be available immediately... GaJ -
PBEMH source code is not available... ages ago Fuerte declined to share it. I don't think the mechanism it uses for pressing buttons works for CMBN anyhow. Have you looked at H2H Helper. It does everything I can think of that you might want, except actually start the game ... for this we either need CMBN command line option, or someone needs to tell me how to press the buttons on CMBN... GaJ
-
Quite some time back I proposed to BFC a command line option for starting a game. It is such a simple and obvious thing to streamline the "game playing experience". We could debate whether this should be a single file or a command line option set. Personally, what I want to see is CMBN -game <saved game fie name> -password <password> But I'd cheer for anything of this nature - I'm longing to enable H2HH Helper to actually start the game that it's helping you with, like the old PBEMH did. Low Bocage vs Hedge how to tell difference?
GreenAsJade replied to Holien's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
WOW! Excellent demonstration of the problem. I look at your first two pictures and I can't tell which is which, yet when you put them together like that it's so obvious. It's due to scale. Zoom in on a hedge and it looks like low bocage! GaJ -
Low Bocage vs Hedge how to tell difference?
GreenAsJade replied to Holien's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
I totally agree: unless I have some of each on the map I'm on, I can't tell which is which, still. I may be getting better, but it's slow, mistakes often. I haven't looked at "how to mod CMBN" yet myself. Is there some fundamental reason why hedge has to look like bocage? Or does someone just need to get down and do some yellow hedges? BTW: Is the little berm of low bocage comparable in cover to high bocage, or is low bocage more like a hedge-you-can-go-through? -
Good, first H2H scenario?

Chance Encounter -
I'll try to dig it out. Strangely, this turn the "4th man" is way _ahead_ of the other guys! (I found him). So maybe he was way behind in that turn that I pictured.... I certainly wasn't looking 3x away! GaJ
-
But theres nothing wierd about the pathing or moral: this is the second turn of the game and it's a flat featureless field with a coupe of trees in it. I'll go looking further afield for the missing guy ... but ... huh? Maybe he dropped his tube GaJ
-
... and where exactly is this unit anyhow: This is a 4-man mortar squad, but I can only find 3 of the men. Also, the location of the squad is curiously (not massively) dislocated from where the 3 men are. This is not the first time I've seen it, but it's the first time it's been so clear: see how the unit icon is above the centre of the covered arc, but the 3 men are off to the left side. (The other men in this picture are definitely not part of this unit) GaJ

Why do some mods not work in v1.01?

My Marco Bergmann mod doesn't show up anymore either My grids are still showing up! I did move everything out before installing the patch GaJ -
More scenarios with no arty please!
GreenAsJade replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
LOL... it just goes to show we all love to moan. I guess you are right that all those buildings on your side of the map aren't actually much in the way of cover in CMBN ... I'm too much thinking CMx1 style But this is 1.01.... maybe the buildings will be great for you!!! GaJ -

GreenAsJade replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
And how exactly do you efficiently look through all those maps, with completely misleading names, to find a good one for your battle? I just got handed "Meet Large Village QB -097" as Axis - I think my oppo set it up with random map choice. Nice one: the Axis have a village with cover to advance to the VL with, the Axis have open fields. FFS. What a disaster... GaJ -

GreenAsJade replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
The maps are supposed to be good for what their name says they're good for, right? So you would think that Small Meet Rough would be good for a small meeting engagement, involving rough terrain where amour would struggle. Think again: take a look at some of those. Open paddocks! GaJ -
More scenarios with no arty please!
GreenAsJade replied to GreenAsJade's topic in Combat Mission Battle for Normandy
Are you guys talking about QBs H2H? I don't know how you even manage this ... though it's another topic, the QB maps seem _awful_ for H2H play. If someone has made a list of "the good ones" that would be wonderful to have. I recently opened a "med ME", and found it largely homogenous flat open bocage fields, with one VL right next to one player's starting position. How is this an ME map!?
