  1. What the heck is the rush for a new module? Hands up everyone who has this one mastered..... GaJ
  2. You could chose to base your tactics on your real life experience of carrying a mortar, or you could chose to base them on the advice given by players about what works in game. I'll give you a hint: players know what works in game. Direct fire mortars are deadly (or at least, they were pre 1.01) GaJ
  3. I don't think its a silly question. The OP lucked out somewhat in picking this map to start with ... I had the same very initial reaction to those colours all over the map, fortunately for me it was clearer what they were. In the OPs map the fields aren't that attractive, there's not much else there to offset the surreal look. Pick another more interesting map: it's better GaJ
  4. What is the difference between saying: "This game will randomly end at T30 + up to 10 turns" and "This game will end randomly at T35 +/- 5 turns". It seems you would be happy with the latter but not the former, yet they are the same AFAICS The important thing is whether the scenario designer designs the "optimum" point to be at T30 (in this case) or T35. It's up to the designer to get this right, as with all aspects of balance. GaJ
  5. Ooo - is this the first time that BFC has let any clue slip about the size of their customer base?
  6. Hey - thanks! It's nice to know when it's working for folk. Lots of people have it now, I only have one outstanding bug report, something wierd for one person. I can't resist posting this screeny of the coming up things: internationalisation and chat. Nearly ready for folk to try this, too... GaJ
  7. Instead of bitching back and forth, there is quite a reasonable request here: create a test game, make a save file, so everyone can look at what you are seeing. (I have to note that I have done this a number of times and sometimes someone took my test files, sometimes no-one did, but never has anyone got back to my about whether it was looked at or not ... it always disappears into the ether. But who knows, you may fare better... at least until you do the right thing and submit a good bug report, you're on the back foot ) GaJ
  8. I reckon that's a fair point. It's easy to think that "sniper" _means_ crack. And it's perhaps justifiable too: you don't get to be a sniper just by being conscripted do you? I might be wrong, but I had the impression you had to prove yourself first for this "valued" role? So maybe the real problem is that "regular" snipers simply shouldn't exist. And maybe the solution is going to work: no-one is going to buy snipers who only hit 1 in 10 So effectively they won't exist. Now ... if crack snipers don't hit pretty much every time, surely that would be a questionable thing. GaJ
  9. You need to understand that all sorts of things can happen in war. Maybe his scope got bent when he dropped his case on the way up the stairs? Maybe the tank crew has poked up a fake cardboard cutout of a tank commander, which your sniper is actually hitting but it's obviously not dying. Maybe he hit the tank-commander's great big medal placed over his heart but under his overcoat? Personally, I reckon it's the fake cardboard commander, because what real commander remains unbuttoned while 6 shots whizz by??? GaJ (/satire off)
  10. Me too! I thought I remember seeing the opposite: now I have to go look again! I also just read someone else suffering from "my mortar is right next to it's commander, and the commander can't command it". Has anyone seen this? Is there a "yes, that's because..." explanation for that? (If the mortar is not deployed, it should just say "out of position" or something, right?)
  11. I think that the explanation "soldiers do stupid things sometimes" for stupid things that happen _frequently_ in the game is a pathetic excuse for a shortcoming in the AI. Why can't we say "geez, yeah, it would be better if only the AI had that tweaked right!"? We can all come up with rationalisations for why the AI does stupid things, but that isn't the point. The point is to report consistently stupid things so that we can compare notes to see if others have the same experience, and if so maybe get something done about them... GaJ
  12. The way it's intended to work is that only ACTIVE games will have game files in Incoming/Outgoing folders. H2HH assumes that you will use _it_ to archive the old game files, in the "Game File Folder" (aka DropBox folder), as described in the section called "I like having my Incoming and Outgoing Email folders tidy, but I want to save my game files, not delete them" in the doco. So ... if you are using H2HH to save old game files, then all that you need to do is delete all game files for finished games from Incoming/Outgoing folders, and the game will no longer appear in the H2HH list, and all the old files will remain for posterity in the place that you asked H2HH to put them (the "Game File Folder") If you aren't using H2HH to save the old files, and aren't using H2HH to keep Incoming and Outgoing folders tidy, then ... H2HH is always going to think all those game files that you leave lying around are "active" But I can't imagine why you would do that GaJ
  13. No, I don't think it's degrees. It's what the other posters said: you have to be able to see the centre of the building, where the action spot is located. GaJ
