  1. Actually, some mods can decrease performance, and all increase the game load time slightly. That said, 99% of the time you won't notice. Any mod that uses a lot of alpha will significantly decrease game peformance. The only one I know of for sure is the Translucent Trees - that definitely slows the frame rate. There may be other more subtle ones. I don't know whether Ari's have any of this - I doubt whether a bit of alpha on a few vehicles is going to have a noticeable effect anyhow (the trees is significant due to the sheer number of them). GaJ
  2. Orchards? Or vineyards? Vineyards I totally agree should be impenetrable to tanks. As everyone has said: strands of wire suspended at inconvenient heights above the ground in many rows ... what a mess. But what's the deal with orchards? Why do tanks get stuck in those? GaJ
  3. What if we all start chanting "Horizons horizons"?
  4. I've been really struck by how nice it is to have the new CMFI horizon line. Looking forwards to the CMBN one! GaJ
  5. Hey, Aris, you mentioned that all the muzzle flashes etc are from real photos/clips ... I'd love to see some of those! GaH
  6. Thanks for asking. I had to do an upgrade of all my web sites due to my hosting provider changing some stuff. At that time, I looked at CMSFMods and thought to myself "it's not worth the effort - CMSF modders usually just put their stuff in the BFC repo, so there's a bunch of stuff can't be found in CMSF Mods, and there's nothing here that is not in the BFC repo". So I didn't bother finishing the upgrade. I don't play CMSF myself, so I don't have my finger on the pulse. If you think this is a bad call, let me know. It's all still there, it will just take some work on my part to get it going again. GaJ
  7. Hey Aris - I think there's a little bug in the Horizon mod: two of the bmps have capital M in their name, which seems to prevent them from being used, so the skyline gets a big jag in it. It affects hazey days (only). GaJ
  8. ... which is the opposite of what elltorrente was saying. There _is_ an AI, and it does choose, itself, where to place units. This is not the Tac AI. GaJ
  9. Just started this scenario. Outstanding map, briefing, and scenario concept. Looking forwards to the battle! GaJ
  10. Yes - AFAIK water is eye candy. What is significant in-game is the terrain tile types: you can either go someplace, or not go there, based on whether it is a deep or shallow terrain tile. So if by some trickery you managed to drain a river of it's water, I'm betting you still wouldn't be able to cross it... GaJ
  11. I'm actually curious what are _you_ talking about. Of course there is a strategic AI It is described in the Game Engine Manual in a chapter called.... wait for it... Do you think that the scenario designer has planned the move of every unit in the AI force, during a scenario? That the scenario designer somehow has given the "move" orders for each unit in every turn, and so the finding of the LOS was done by a person, not the AI? No. The scenario designer gives the AI specific goals. Again, I quote: I don't have an opinion about whether the AI's ability to find LOS is unduly uncanny, but to assert that it doesn't even do this is (apparently, in the face of the above quote from the game manual) nonsense. So... can you clarify what are you talking about? "The AI doesn't even exist really"? GaJ
  12. Doh! You mean that it is "Allied vs **AI** ONLY" GaJ
  13. Nice horizon line in the background (downloading now)
  14. An H2H Wego movie that had me on the edge of my seat, thought I'd share it...
  15. FWIW, IMHO the BFC repository "UI design" makes it hard enough to find a scenario that you're looking for, let alone go back and find where you got it and leave a review that no-one will read because they too can't find it. This is my experience of it ... I dunno about the rest of you. Similarly, it was only after GJK broke the review system at The Scenario Depot that the wheels _really_ came off that system. Prior to that there were actually reviews in modest numbers at TSD (though there was always the debate about whether they were _good_ reviews , and even then there weren't enough for the designers etc). I don't think we'll see a healthy ecosystem of scenarios etc till this is somehow improved. But also it's early days yet, really. QBs do provide a good deal of satisfaction for vs AI players, and H2H players haven't yet become familiar enough with the existing QB maps and scenarios to be experiencing real pressure for more. That moment is not far away... this thread might be signalling the beginings of it! GaJ
  16. I think you mean "an empty folder", not "an empty file". Quite an important difference... GaJ
  17. Marco Bergman's weapon mods are the most "must have" that I can think of. I also find translucent trees to be indispensable, though I can see that this will be a matter of opinion (if only Shift-T had a translucent setting!). Fuser (aka Aristotles) mods are all so beautiful that they are at least "must take a look and consider". But then... so are many others. You can browse them by thumbnail, sorted by author, date or number of downloads, at cmmods.greenasjade.net. GaJ
  18. 'cmon, Japanzer ... give us a clue how it works! If I wanted to do something like that, I wouldn't have a clue where to start! Is it brute force recognising the text off the screen bitmap? GaJ
  19. That's insane!! How does it work!? Cheers, GaJ
  20. Yeah, 2.3.1 is supposed to fix this, at least in the sense that it makes sure it doesn't happen again. If you are on 2.3.1 and still have this problem (the fuzzy text in the picture almost looks that way) then here's the arcane recipe to fix it: - Turn ON Gmail Support under Options - Do Install->Edit and make sure that it says (none) in the Gmail Address - Do Game->Edit for each game that has a gmail icon and make sure there is no email in the Opponents Email field (its OK if it says "you need to set your email first") - Turn OFF Gmail Support in Options Fingers crossed, sorry about that. Another quicker, though more dramatic way to fix it may be to delete the H2HH AppState.txt file, which is in the same folder as the log file: the log window has this path, it's the first thing it tells you. Fingers crossed. Happy to help with more detail if it doesn't make sense or doesn't work. GaJ
  21. All this blah blah blah about making a backup. Just get McMMM and let it manage that stuff for you. McMMM is on CMMODS. Use search to find it. (Or JSGEM, I guess... I've never heard of that). GaJ
  22. Sounds like it - it has Castelleti hill, and an Orchard VL
